I just revived an old and abused FS 350 a couple of days ago. It came with the same head namely "Stihl Supercut 20-2". I opened it and had no idea how the auto-feed works. It is unlike the bump-feed heads. This old machine has a 2.0 mm line already loaded by the previous owner. I suffered the same issue with line over-feeding. This is a common problem with this particular head. I replaced the 2.0 mm line with Stihl Super-cut 2.4 mm lines. It didn't over-feed. So I believe the writing on the drum which specified 2.4 mm line is for a good reason. It "must" be 2.4 mm and nothing else. Why? I think it is to do with the weight of the line. Too light, the drum couldn't detect sufficient centrifugal force on the two springs and the clutch within, and feeds out more line to compensate. I did try to put a heavier line, eg. 2.7 mm, the holes on the drum won't accept it. So I believe that Stihl makes it impossible to put on a heavier line. I also noticed the Stihl line is much softer than other lines I also used.
