      I got 4 crabs on my vacation and my mom (who works at a pet shop) ended up getting 40 crabs but they only ordered 10 so she brought home 2 I now have six...
      names:
      Scuttle
      Diamond
      Sahara (like the desert)
      Pearl
      Spot
      Spruce (like the tree)

      ive had my one of my hermit crabs, Shelldon for almost a year and i got my other hermit crab, Star in December and im still watching care videos so that i can give them the best life possible and ive mostly been watching yours because your hermit crabs obviously have amazing lives and an amazing owner who knows all about them! I knew not to get another hermit crab when i got star but Shelldon was really lonely because he was the only one in the big tank. Thank you for being an amazing hermit crab owner!

      Lori’s Hartland thank you so much for making videos of hermits and this channel in general! I had gotten 2 hermits from my pet store and you taught me a lot about them!! It has been so nice to be able to trust someone and see visually how the crabs are and what you do! Love you so much!! ^-^

    Once I put one of my hermit crabs on my bed with a ton of different shells (and this was only two months after I got him) and he changed shells right in front of me and my boyfriend 6 times!!! He tried out different shells 6 times then kept going back into his old one. It was a super cool experience to know that he wasn’t afraid us and felt safe enough to expose himself like that. We were laying on the bed right next to him!

  • @CrabCentralStation
    @CrabCentralStation 5 років тому

    I am curious as to how your crabs are so small? We adopted a crab that is at least 8 years old and he is in a 3 inch opening shell. We have a working theory that when provided bigger shells, and they choose them and then molt in them, they actually seem from our observation to grow to fit the size of shell avaliable. I guess this is a survival technique due to the lack of shells in the wild. I wonder if you provide bigger shells if they will get bigger? We have to offer a large variety in all of our tanks because we have varying sizes and sometimes we notice a smaller crab take a shell way to big and then when it comes back from a molt, it fits. We obviously can't prove this fact but it is something we are strongly considering and it honeslty makes sense from the wild aspect of these animals. We are still observing this, especially with our captive bred babies to see any differences, but it is still a curiosity we have as hermit crab owners of several hermit crabs.

    • @LorisHartland
      @LorisHartland  5 років тому +2

      Crab Central Station interesting theory! I offer several size options for each crab but they move around when they feel like it mostly. I also exchange shells out too, I have a lot! But I will say gunner has at least tripled in size since I got him, he was so tiny. 💗

      Humidity is what they breathe with, they may not be active because they cannot breathe right without the right humidity! They have gills, not lungs. Saltwater is also essential to their health, which could be another reason why they are not moving much. Missing these essentials basically means your hermits are slowly dying, which can be reversed if corrected soon enough.

    Hi! Thank you so much for these videos! I've got the exact same viv in preparation for a hermit crab that I'm adopting from my previous place of work. With the wire mesh lid, do you find the humidity doesn't last as long? I'm from the UK, so air isn't as warm as I assume it is where you are, so would you recommend covering up part of the mesh lid? I'd leave some open for aeration. Thanks! The close up of Gunner is amazing!

    Hai! I want to get a hermit crab and im looking on all your videos for advice- Im having trouble finding a good tank that is big enough for the crabs but small enough to put on my dresser since I have no other place to put him. the max length of the top of my dresser is 33 inches, the max width is 15, and max height to the wall is 25 (I made sure to leave enough extra space on the edges when measuring even with the max measurmenrs the tnak wouldnt be too close to the edges) I want to try to find a tank that also has the double doors so its easier to change there food and water and to mist without messing up their environment. Im really im a hole so any advice would be deeply appriciated

      Try the exoterra website to look at the tank types.they all have measurements and double doors. You could even ask your local pet shop to order it in if they supply exoterra products.

      Hermit crabs live in humid tree areas near oceans in South America were it is hot and humid. They aren't beach crabs, they are tree crabs. They probably died from overheating on the beach or were quickly eaten by seagulls and other birds.

    So I have hermit crabs that are as big as my palm and I put them in a group in their tank (about 5) is that okay? I'm not sure but I did search it up and it said they need to have friends.

    I have a question is saltwater bad for hermit crabs when they molt?🙂

  • @deidrethomas1653

    I love our videos. They were/are very helpful. I got Spike and Roundy a year ago. I watched your videos and made a safe enclosure. They are healthy and thriving. Spike is currently molting and is double the size from when I purchased him. I actually just purchased 2 more and they are adjusting quite well. I haven’t placed the new ones in the tank yet, I did not want them to bother Spike while molting. I do have a question, Spike has been molting for about 2 months now but he’s about 3-4 inches prior to molting.

    Thanks for sharing, I'm curious do you know how to safely polish old hermit crab shells? Most of them eventually get chafed, and feel rough after about a year or two. I know the hermit crabs probably don't care, but it'd be cool to figure that out!

    my hermit crab was very pale when i purchased him from petco and over some time he got darker which i looked up why and it says it's a good thing But idk if thats true anyways loved your video !

    • @sweetluvgurl
      @sweetluvgurl 5 років тому +2

      It is true that darker is better. They are usually more pale / kinda white looking if they are sick or possibly dying.

    • @meowx5416
      @meowx5416 5 років тому

      It is ok if they are pale, that most likely means that they have just molted, and they will get much darker sooner.
