You planted dark pink cuttings and how they turned to light pink after growing??
Well, let us see 😊and let me start by saying quite interestingly a great question 🙌
- The parent plant was more than 6 years old hence has flowered a lot of times, in full sun hence the darker color, even the leaves have more color
- On the other hand, the cuttings were started in water that too on a windowsill until they were potted in the soil and transferred to a shaded area until they were ready for the sun
- Moreover, soil changed, so did the water (quality not just the quantity), thereby fluctuations in nutrition. And when I mention these things, they hold true both ways, better or worse conditions, soil or sunlight exposure, the important thing to note here is change, my intention was not to replicate the exact conditions but to get new Bougainvillea plants using cuttings and be successful with it. The flowers' color correction will happen gradually as the plant grows, I assure you that. Nature has its way of course-correcting itself, it always lets us- the living beings, chances to be our best versions!
Now if you realize, sunlight has an effect on the color of the leaves and flowers and even if you discount that flower color shouldn't change much, well I agree but there's no denying the fact that the plant kingdom is dynamic, and there's no denying the fact that temperature, sunlight, pH, and nutrition can all affect the levels of different pigments in a flower and what color they appear.

@@GauravChhikaraGardenDubai yes I do agree with sunlight and overall nature logic about color , I love bouganvellieas I tried so many cuttings in all different ways last year but no luck yet im kinda tired now but still I can't wait to propogate again ..can do now in winter's ? Please say yes !

That's great, I don't see a problem, use the rooting hormone instead of cinnamon powder on some of the cuttings and let me also know which set gave better results. I am excited to hear more about this little experiment, which I would really like you to take up.

@@aishwarya_nc Yes, Mrs. Sanadhya had quite a successful outing with the Bougainvillea cuttings, I have seen the pictures and they are growing quite well. I understand that can happen but nothing should stop you from trying again, because plants or Nature would not want you to give up. I am sure things will work out better this time around. Thank you for the instructive video. Since last year I am starting growing bougainvillea from cuttings..some I put directly in soil and some I put in water. I am trying to see the difference, which one grow faster. Many of them become dry and then die, after 3 to 4 weeks. Can you trll me the reason. Is it that the branch is too thin and not old enough..Now I try to have thicker cuttings. Can you give me some advice, because I am discouraged when the cutting do not get any root and then die away, especially that I lost so much time waiting..Thank you in advance

I haven't used this method on English Roses, so can't really say! But I know for a fact that English Roses would respond better to soil propagation than water+soil.

I have always tried my luck on bougainvilleas using the ICU method and by using aloe Vera as a root hormone for the cuttings, but I always end up failing mainly because the cuttings became moldy, and while some got leaves sprouting after a week, the leaves started to fall off after another week...
I had never thought of using wood ash.
Question:
1. Can we use ash from charcoals? (the ones commonly used in grilling)
2. I have ordered cuttings of a rarer variety, and it took a week before I got them. The cuttings were almost dried, but some managed to survive. Can I still soak the entire cuttings on the cinnamon+water mixture to revitalized them at least?
3. Can I use the left over cinnamon+water then add them with wood ash? Or should I use a cleaner water + wood ash instead?
I might try to get some new cuttings again, and try this method. It's always exciting when new leaves sprout from the cuttings. And the cuttings were already exposed to the environment, and there will be no shock to the plant, unlike in ICU method.
As a professional plant grower, I would say that you don't have to try hard or experiment with everything you see on the internet, this is a good method but it's more work than what a plant needs to sucessfully propagate. As with many other plants that can be layered or air layered, bougainvillea needs to be three nodes long, most plants will sucessfully root with three or four nodes, but as a golden rule, three nodes is enough. While some plants will do fine with just a 45 degree cut (not exaxtly 45), other plants need to be wounded, which means they need to be scratched or just a straight cut from the other side of the angled cut, or just peeled off 1-2 cm. You don't need rooting hormone or any other thing, but you can use them for greater sucess. FOUR things to keep in mind for propagation, high humidity environment, warm place, no direct sunlight except in winter, and mist them daily. As a rooting medium, sterilized compost will do fine. I have sold millions of plants and for the first 20 years used just garden soil and a greenhouse, but sucess varied from plant to plant, I have found that many plants are a true gift from mother nature they just need water and caw manure as fertilizer and will be extremely happy, few plants are hard to propagate with simple methods like cuttings, root cuttings, layering, they need to be grafted for propagation since they are hybrids that and very hard to root.

Hello I wrote to you before and you helped me with losing bougainvillea after I plant them.
New question I have 2 raspberry ice. Plants I put them in a grow room a few months ago and witching 2 weeks the leavers went from yellow and green to green and white. The flower color changes also. Any chance they will return to original color?
Did the only agricul soil can use for repotting the plant?

Do you mean, fruit trees; can they be propagated the same way? If that was the question, yes, absolutely any cutting can be propagated this way, if cutting propagation is feasible for that said tree or plant.

As far as ash is concerned, please go with Wood Ash, and not any other (other most common being Coal Ash):
⦁ Coal Ash: It is harmful if released into the environment because it contains lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, and uranium. These pollutants within ash make it ecologically important to appropriately dispose of ash
⦁ Wood Ash: This is a collection of different-sized particulates that are formed as a result of the combustion of wood. This ash is typically powdery and can be fairly useful due to its high content of a variety of minerals. Wood ash can be used to repel slugs and snails in gardens, de-skunk pets, melt ice, clean glass, enriched compost, and even shine silver

Thanks so much for this video. I thought I would share my results. 13 days ago, I took a 3 meter cutting and made 29 cuttings from it. Scarred all, split the bottoms of some, and split others with the toothpick method. 9 of them have shoots, cutting diameters of which ranges from 6mm to 20mm. Only one of the cuttings which is less thick than a pencil has shoots, so I think that is important to make sure the cuttings are thick enough regardless of whether . The calluses are forming better on the thicker cuttings, which also happen to be the cuttings I only scarred rather than split. So I’m not sure which factor accounts for this. I haven’t given up on the cuttings which haven’t produced shoot yet but I don’t have my hopes up. The water in some cups are getting very cloudy, and I’ve been changing it every couple of days. (Not sure if I should). I hope that several of these make it! A little concerned for rot, as some of them look suspicious, but let’s see. Thanks again for sharing all your knowledge!

Awesome, always love when the results come about and you decide to share your experience, so much to ponder, learn and unlearn. You are right about the thickness, cuttings I used for this kind of propagation were thicker than what I normally use, so you made a valid point. It would take some more time, 1-2 weeks more before shoots appear. Also, the water should be changed over time it gets murky or dirty or cloudy, it should stay clear and without any smell.
And discard the cuttings that go stale or start to rot, sometimes that can happen, if you let them stay in with other cuttings, all of them might rot, so quite important to keep an eye on this as well.
Every propagation is tricky until it's successful and as I see you have been on top of everything and careful at every step, should be a great result overall, I have no doubts. Just keep at it and yes, would be awesome, if you decide to share the results once again, soon. Thank you! Good luck to you!

Absolutely, this method would work with most cuttings, just make sure the girth and age of the cutting are right as shown in the video. The parent plant should be healthy and at least 5 years old.

Thanks for a lucid and educative video demo for semi-hard wood cuttings. I am going to try this method during Nov -Jan months for ideal ambient conditions. Will a table spoon of wood ash sufice for the required CaCO3 and K nutrients. Secodly, can we apply the same method for propagating rose and rosemary cuttings ? Request your suggestion sir.
Perfect, great news! Where are you based? Hope the months you mentioned, have temperatures in the range of 18 Degrees Celsius and 35 Degrees Celsius!
Absolutely right! Yes, a tablespoon would suffice.
Without a doubt, this method would work great. Just make sure, the cuttings (most cuttings would work if not all, rosemary and rose, yes, I guarantee these 2 definitely would) you get should be thick as in the video and the age of the parent plant should be more than 5 years, of course, the plant should be in perfect health.

I liked the way you wrote the chemical names of wood ash components.
Please note that much wood ash contains calcium carbonate as its major component, representing 25 or even 45 percent. Less than ten percent is potash, and less than one percent phosphate; there are trace elements of iron, manganese, zinc, copper, and some heavy metals.
However, these numbers vary, as combustion temperature is an important variable in determining wood ash composition. All of these are, primarily, in the form of oxides.

Wood is rate commodity therefore It is very difficult to get wood ash these days. Any alternates (organic only.)???
Do I have to keep cuttings in wood ash for a month!! Again u've given a new idea and I'll definitely going to try as monsoon are here in India....
Once you have kept them in Cinnamon Powder and Water solution for 2-4 hours, take them out and now place them in wood ash and water solution for ONE WEEK, keep the apparatus on a windowsill or outside if the temperatures are between 18 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees clesius.

¡Hola Denisse! ¡Espero que estés bien! ¡Recuerdo que recientemente tuvimos una gran discusión sobre Hibsicus!
Entonces, si no me equivoco, ¿quieres saber el resumen de todo el proceso para propagar la buganvilla?
Bueno, si ese es el caso, aquí está-
- Haga los esquejes (6-8 pulgadas de largo), corte en ángulo. Divida la parte inferior a aproximadamente 1 o 2 pulgadas e inserte una parte de un palillo de dientes para mantener separada la parte inferior de los cortes. Marque los esquejes después
- Deje reposar los esquejes en una solución de canela en polvo y agua durante aproximadamente 2-3 horas
- Ahora lleve los recortes a Wood Ash (cuando quema madera para cualquier propósito, puede guardar parte de la ceniza para este propósito) y Water Solution y déjelos allí durante una semana antes de transferirlos al agua normal del grifo hasta que se sequen. crecer raíces y hojas
- Y luego viene la parte en la que simplemente comienzas las buganvillas recién propagadas en el suelo

Does this work on rubber plant cuttings?
I don't see any reason why this technique won't work on any other plant, just make sure you get the cuttings girth right, and also, the parent plant should be older than 5 years old, in the case of Rubber Fig!
I am sure you are aware that Rubber figs are easy-to-grow houseplants and just as easy to propagate and have a high rate of success.

I generally prefer the cutting grow atleast 1 root before planting them in a pot...n I get 100% result on all of them...and I only use tap water and keep changing the water after 2/3 days no ash and cinnamon power needed....happy gardening 😊👍

If I were you I would wait a couple of months until the advent of Spring. And in case you want to start earlier, go for it during the first week of February.
And if you want 100% results, please start the cuttings in the soil when the temperatures are between 18 degrees Celsius and 35 Degrees Celsius. And in case you decide to start when the temperatures are under or above these temperature limits as stated above (18-35 degrees C), the success rate would suffer, but you might get some successful propagations, expect 2-3 successful cuttings for every 5 cuttings you plant or thereabout. So my advice, if you have access to an unlimited supply of cuttings, try whenever you can but if you get these cuttings the hard way (the rare/ exotic ones), then wait until you get the right temperatures. Ash is a must, now you can choose between wood and coal, just that wood will be more helpful! I won't suggest anything else as a replacement for ash (wood ash being the top ingredient).

Will this method work for curry plant cutting? Thanks
No, it won't unless you have a healthy, more than a decade-old parent plant; of course, the cutting size should be as thick as an average finger.
As soon as you see those white bumps on the cuttings, please take them to the soil, in shade and as mentioned in the video, keep watering once every 3 days for the next one month, once the leaves are out, let the new plant sit in sun for the most part of the day and start watering once every 7 days.

Can I skip cinnamon and put cuttings directly in ash water?

You can but shouldn't. I hope you understand the significance of Cinnamon, here
I have been using Cinnamon Powder for years now, works great as a fungicide (in this case, helped the wounded part heal better) and even helped with the rooting during propagation (all you got to do is scar the cutting and dip it in a solution of cinnamon powder and water for about 2-3 hours before putting them in the soil).

Please note that the ideal temperature to start Bougainvillea cuttings is between 18 degrees Celsius and 35 Degrees Celsius. So if are in that range, please, by all mean, go ahead and raise some Bougainvilleas using cuttings.

May I proportion hibiscus in this method?
Yes, sure you can, no problem! Just that please make sure the parent Hibsicus plant is healthy and more than 5 years old. Also, the cutting should be thick enough so that once split, it can withstand the shock.

Hi, ma'am! Sure thing, let me share a comprehensive response, step by step
➽ The ideal temperature to start Bougainvillea cuttings is between 18 degrees Celsius and 35 Degrees Celsius
➽ Soil Mix
- 50% garden soil + 50% cocopeat (if temperature is closer to 18 degrees C)
- 80% garden soil + 20 % cocopeat (if temperature is closer to 35 degrees Celsius)
➽ First 3 weeks, let the cuttings sit in a shaded spot and water once every 4/5 days (temperature closer to 18 degrees C) and once every 2/3 days (if the temperature is closer to 35 degrees C) and should water after the sun is down
➽ Now if you see leaves all growing, take them to a sunny spot and start watering once every week, more only if the plant asks for it (leaves would tell you exactly if they need 2 servings in a week or else, continue watering them once every week and only in the evenings)

Quick question, why to split the bottom part of the cutting ? I've grown many Bougainvillea from cutting without any rooting hormone and none of them have failed... so what is the significance of the split ?
As I mentioned in the video this is one of the foolproof methods and everything is related, wood ash, split, water propagation, and then soil propagation; and split does increase the surface area for the wood ash to work its magic.
Where are you based? I have propagated bougainvillea cuttings using different methods and trust me when I say this, there is no universal method (one method won't work in all climates), hence one needs to be aware of a few alternates. That's that 😉

Does leaf ash have same potassium levels of wood ash?
Also, can you just use liquid fertilizer for this as well? I have a 4-9-4 liquid fertilizer and also a 9-3-6 liquid fert

Here in the video, as you are aware, I used wood ash, however, coal ash and leaf ash would also work just fine!

You are right, the content of most ashes is similar with varying degrees of Phosphorus and Potassium!

I would advise you not to use fertilizers right at the start, in fact, fertilizers, liquid or otherwise, should be introduced once the newly propagated plant is at least 6 months old, and there as well if you see the plant is doing fine, again, don't bother and prolong the fertilizer introduction for as long as possible. The last part of my answer is strictly for Bougainvilleas and trust me when I say, Bougainvilleas don't take too kindly to fertilizers until they are older than 5 years.

Absolutely, you are so right, it is quite important what season you decide to propagate Bougainvillea.
➽ For best results when cuttings are in the water, please make sure the temperatures are between 18 degrees Celsius and 25 Degrees Celsius. If you decide to go under and above these temperature limits, the success rate would suffer.
➽ For best results after you take the young cuttings in the soil, please make sure the temperatures are between 18 degrees Celsius and 35 Degrees Celsius. If you decide to go under and above these temperature limits, the success rate would suffer.

Can rose creeper be propagated the same way?
Absolutely, just be sure to get a cutting that's similar in thickness and age!

Does this method work for other plants? Maybe peppers?
Of course, this method would work on most plants, if you make sure the parent plant is healthy and older than 5 years, e.g. Hibiscus, Rose, and the like.
Peppers, you can simply propagate them in water without the ash and cutting-split. Why go the extra mile when you can skip a few steps discussed in the video.

Why must it be 5 years?
@@JS-vi6tq To get the right cutting, in terms of health and girth! Simply knowing that the said plant is older than 5 years, would confirm both health and girth, right?

I have potted some bougainvillea cuttings in soil mix for more than a month in the shade. Failed to develop roots. Should I keep it semi-shade?
Wow, first up congratulations on the attempt and I am sure a little patience and your cuttings will make it.
Also, they need to stay in the shaded spot for the time being, and 2-3 weeks after you see the new leaves. Semi-shade or sun won't be helpful at all, in fact, this would deter the cuttings to go any further so please let them be for a week more and see how it works out.

- How's the temperature in your area, is it too cold or too hot?
Please let me know and we can discuss more and make sure your cuttings get the best possible care from here on.

Can we do in any month of whole year
If you want 100% results, please start the cuttings in the soil when the temperatures are between 18 degrees Celsius and 35 Degrees Celsius.
And in case you decide to start when the temperatures are under or above these temperature limits as stated above (18-35 degrees C), the success rate would suffer, but you might get some successful propagations, expect 2-3 successful cuttings for every 5 cuttings you plant or thereabout.
So my advice is if you have access to an unlimited supply of cuttings, try whenever you can but if you get these cuttings the hard way (the rare/ exotic ones), then wait until you get the right temperatures.

Hi Gaurav, I have followed ur method as u said but sorry to say that not even a single cutting sprout and it was really a very disappointing experience for me cause I collected some cuttings of different colours from my friends house. Monsoons are almost over here 😒😟
Hi Varuna! Oh, that is sad indeed, no doubt! And I am glad that you came back to share the feedback.
Come on, these things happen, you cannot be down and out because of one bad experience, there is always a next time and I am sure there was some learning along the way. ALSO, IF YOU SEE I PROPAGATED ONLY PINK COLOUR WITH THIS METHOD!! DON'T WORRY I WILL HAVE 4 DIFFERENT COLOURS PROPAGATED THIS WAY AND WE WILL DISCUSS THE RESULTS AT LENGTH THEN.
I wouldn't know what went wrong unless I see some pictures (G.CHHIKARA@GMAIL.COM) and you answer a few questions-
- Did they rot/died in the water or soil
- Where did you keep the propagation apparatus
- Were the cuttings all healthy
- How long before they rotted or started and the water was all discolored
- Did you use wood ash
- Did you make those slits and inserted toothpicks
- Were cuttings thicker than a pencil
- Also what colours you propagated using these cuttings, was there a PINK one
Let me know the answers and we can talk some more about this mishap (I don't want to use that word, but you say you are so disappointed hence I got to use your language and words) 😊👍. Thank you!!

Gaurav Chhikara Garden Hi Gaurav thanks for replying... all cuttings were from a healthy and matured plant, yes I used wood ash and slits also but it got rotten in water only. Anyways I experimented wid ur other video by dipping cuttings in cinnamon powder for 3-4 hrs, it is successful. All cuttings growing very nicely 👍🙏🎋🌱

That deadwood in the bottom is a fungus magnet. This is a common practice in Nurseries to propagate cutting faster but most of these plants never survive for a very long time. The best way is to make a clean cut only then the chances of cuttings survival will be higher.

Common??? Really! I disagree.
I have propagated enough Bougainvilleas using cuttings to know it all. If a method works it works, and this method did work every single time, and let me invite you to try it, and then maybe you will have a changed opinion. This technique was devised not as an easier option but as a foolproof option.
And by no means I am saying this is an easier method, it requires more work, more patience, and even more tactics, so if the simple propagation method works for you, well done, please continue using that, at the end of the day you need a successful propagation 😊👍
