the "right" and "wrong" side of fabric is really just whatever side you want it to be. so even if the fabric was made to have one side showing, if you want the other side to show then thats the right side :)

Look at Megan's videos from 2013 and her latest ones from 2019 where she is sewing things from scratch, throwing stitching terminology and building stuff using a freaking saw on a yoga matt.

I am always so obsessed with your clothing/thrifting/fashion videos! You truly have an eye for creating outfits out of thrift finds and I just think that is so so cool! You have an amazing style!

You're so full of the crafting spirit. I don't know how many times that I've struggled to do something, and then had an epiphany that I already had something that would make it exponentially easier! Like, you just had a dress form. That sounds absurd, but I just pulled out a self healing cutting mat that I've literally had for 10+ years, but the first time I've ever used it for sewing. haha!
@meganbatoon just watching you attempt to sew and get frustrated for some reason relaxes me. You do such a great job of editing and creating a story out of anything! I'm not even into sewing but you make it engaging and interesting. And it's cool seeing you step outside your comfort zone and try new skills.... While recording yourself failing and messing up.
I can't stress enough please use a zig zag stitch or surger for elastic. And when you make darts MESURE the amount you need (usually an inch) . And you really can only choose one elastic or zipper because they really cancel each other out. Zipper for more fitted things usually. Also pro tip sew before cutting of fabric you never no when you need to unpick, you can mesure the space from the sides add an inch them mark the triangle on the fabric, with the straps can fold the straps over twice (like a double hem but not) Ok sorry. Oh and also fabric choices are pretty important like the way the fabric of your first garment trapped could've been slightly nicer if you took a little more time seeing how it drapes💛💛

Sidenote: Can we talk about the fact that she had a video featuring clothes she would never buy and one of them was a a silk corset that she hated to the point of covering it up and dismantling it and now she has upgraded to a full silk dress. She is making from scratch.

I've been watching your videos since day one and when I saw what this video whas about I got super excited since I'm a tailor and I can confidently say you did so many things totally right! I'm impressed!
Not my thing. Ytube brought me here from the maker threads on woodworking but I love that you are being inventive and tackling clothing designs etc. instead of just running out and buying it. My best friend's wife and daughter do the same and it combines a cool hobby and saving, a rare thing. In fact I cannot think of a hobby where there is savings, even the woodworking. Kudos.
So in most of her videos Megan narrarates my thought process as I try to do things I know nothing about. However, I've been sewing since I was ten so in this video I actually knew the "right" way to do things. It's amazing that she figured a lot of things out through trial and error. Zippers are definitely weird, I'd suggest watching a tutorial to get the hang of it!
For the darts, they go on the princess seams so you don’t have that gap at the bottom. You can put the garment on ur dress form and the the 2 lines going down the front are the princess seams
Hi Megan! I have two cats as well and have dealt with them “accidentally” peeing on items that they shouldn’t have, lol. I’ve learned that hydrogen peroxide and baking soda work well to rid of the urine smell. I like using it on bigger items. ^_^

I kind of love Megan because she will boost herself up and I will agree with her and then before I can cheer her on, she will take herself back down a peg.
I kind of love that because I am kind of like that BUT I AM STILL ROOTING FOR HER
Megan :). when you pin 2 fabrics together, pin them horizontally so you can sew with the pins on without having the pins getting stuck into the machine. Also, with the skirt , in the pattern draft, the hem is straight, the curved part will be the waist to accomodate the darts.

One tip from someone who was there where you are now about sewing, thing that changes A LOT - ironing. Iron your every step almost, every stitch you make, iron it after. It changes how things look SO MUCH.

Hehe the way you sewed in the zipper for the green top is exactly how you're supposed to see in an invisible zipper.. so at least you got there in the end!

It looks like you did well with that coverup skirt, but for future knowledge, there are stitches designed for use with elastic or other stretchy fabrics that will allow you to sew it without so much hassle.

That's one way you do a hidden zipper! Use a basting stitch on the seam then sew the zip, then seam rip the basting stitch. Also, you can eliminate ripples in the seams by pressing them flat.
Ive been wanting to must out some sewing myself! I feel like ill have the same frustration lol Way to persevere!
Spray with white vinegar! Worked on my couch. Air out the item and the vinegar smell will go away, may need to spray it twice. But it works like magic!

Try sheering scissors, stops fraying and a rotary cutter, both good for fraying and clean cuts

I LOVE the idea of the skirt with a fabric pull through that you can knot! That answers the whole tying a knot thing with simple sarongs or wrap skirts! Create a top with 1, 2 straps or even a bandeau with a knot and it would match nicely! You should start a "Batoon Wear" line :)

For the top that you made (the green one)- you could have measure the dart that you already made (measure from the top edge of the shirt till the dart, from the bottom to the dart and the length of it) and then just copy it to the other side! Hopefully I helped a little bit 😅
