South African municipalities need academics to run efficiently and productively. The question is, how do we get academics to positions of leadership in the municipalities. We pay for children to go to school so that they can only flex those skills in the private sector, but put uneducated and directionless politicians in positions of leadership in municipalities that govern where major companies operate. Long as we keep allowing uneducated people to lead us in government, we are not going anywhere
