  • Greg Ison from Ison's Nursery & Vineyard demonstrates how to set up and install a drip irrigation system in your vineyard. Drip irrigation can be used for your garden, your flowering plants - anywhere you need water outside.
This is an important step in establishing your vineyard. Ison's Nursery & Vineyard is the largest and oldest grower of muscadine vines in the country. We ship plants all across the country and invite you to browse our website. We are happy to answer questions and help you make your selections.

This guy is really an excellent teacher. There are so many people who know material but cannot articulate it understandably. This is simply a great resource. Thanks to Ison’s!

Muscadines are the grape for south Florida. We eat the skin and seeds!! Ison's is the go to for supplies and information. Juice, wine or jelly!!

Bowsmith NonStop emitter require a pressure system of at 15psi, right? So not gravity of less than 5 psi?

Greg I have a young young vine that is like 1/4” thick and I’ve set up my emitter right at the trees root base, not 12” away. Is that smart? I think it’s good for now but would like to know it it will hurt the roots down the line being so close to the trunk.

Love your video's and have my first order in for 2 vines with you now. One question: should the emitter point downward, or horizontal as you installed it, or does it matter?

Hi. Just found you. Can you use well water for irrigation?

How do you recommend to spread out the water per week - for say a needed 7 gallons per week? Would that one gallon per day for 6 days and not water the 7th or 2 gallons per day for three days/week? Thanks.

Does the root system only focus in the vicinity of the emitter? Since you are irrigating for rows of grapevine, I assume your root system is mostly lateral along the direction of the irrigation line and less in between the rows?
My installation will be for palm trees and I am wondering if I need to drip on all sides for a more circular drip pattern with perhaps 4 emitters. What are your thoughts?

As plant roots require air at night would it be better to water from early morning (6am) rather than in the evening? Vines require water for photosynthesis which is done during sunshine hours. Thank you

You give very knowledgable information in your videos. Would you be interested in using PIP Pulsators for frost protection and drip irrigation?

Great video Greg. I also shared it on facebook with my horticultural friends and groups. Its been so dry in north GA I plan on installing a similar system for my few Isons muscadines. Carrying water to them gets tiresome in a hurry!

Will gravity feed supply enough pressure to go through these emitters?

    • @mountainlion7051

I am sure it will depend on your emitters; many emitters require low psi ( around 15 psi) so if you can get 34 feet above you plants you will be good to go. I see his tubbing has a max pressure of 60 psi, so my best guess is that his system might require more pressure.

What do you do in the winter months, to make sure it doesn’t freeze and bursts.

Unscrew the cap on the end of each line so anything left in the lines will drain.

What’s your opinion on heavy mulching with fresh wood chips around vines for weed suppression and water preservation? I just found a good source at a local sawmill

    • @treyb2919
      @treyb2919 10 місяців тому

On their website they say that since the vines have shallow root systems, heavy mulching can actually encourage the roots to be at the surface of the ground or even into the mulch.

Can you run these underground? Thinking a small pecan orchard.

Excellent video! What would be the maximum length of one 1/2 inch tube if you use 0.5 gph emitters? Would it be possible to have a relatively uniform distribution of water using a 600 ft line?

Will a drip system work coming from a slightly elevated rain cistern or does it need pressure from a spigot?
