      Great video. I work on an organic farm with LOTS of drip irrigation. One suggestion to viewers: If you are planning drip irrigation on a new garden or other area, install your drip lines before you put down your mulch or compost layer. Foxes and other critters like to tear up the drip lines as a water source as they “investigate” your crops. Happy growing!! 🌻🌺🪴

      @@228Brendon agreed. 18 months ago, I installed drip irrigation around my house for foundation watering purposes and for landscaping plants... But never laid mulch on top, since then, I've had to repair some bite marks that created leaks.

    Protip: pulling loops straight off a coil introduces a full twist into the line for each coil. Unrolling it along the ground (or off a spool) allows it to lay flatter and doesn't stress the material. This goes for tubing, rope, cable, water hoses, extension cords, data cables, etc.
    Great video and nice yard!

    That was a great tutorial on drip irrigation installation and design. Now that it has been over a year, you should do a follow-up video if you have not already done so, to show how the system is holding up and if any issue has come up that you would do differently in hindsight. Thanks for taking the time to make the tutorial.

    THANK YOU Dee, this was the first DIY project I worked on and my confidence is SO much better for it! After ordering parts, the materials came down to $375, including some sprinklers before tax and such. I was quoted $8k-$10k for a system!
    Only thing I will add is: Use pliers if you want to pull some of the pipes off the larger components where you put it on by accident.
    ProTip: If you have good credit and are in the US, you can get a Home Depot card to extend your return window to a year. It helped me to buy extra things and return later without stressing about not buying enough and making too many trips.

    Good morning! This is my second comment on this video and I just wanted to point out that I have converted my whole backyard from grass to woodchips using the method that I learned from you as well as the drip irrigation. I kept getting big squares of cardboard from Bj's for a while and also my local Market Basket. I also called a few tree removal companies around my neck of the woods (Fall River,MA) and one of them brought me about 30 yards of woodchips. You are a very smart go getter and should be very proud of yourself! You rock!!! ❤️🇺🇦🇺🇸🤜

      @@DeesYard one last question well two lol;
      How does the pressure / water get distributed evenly? Seems like the first portion of the setup would have more pressure than the end? This would make a great video. I know a lot of people have the same question.
      Also, where would I place a charcoal filter in this setup, right before the adapter that connects the tubing to the mainframe setup?
      Thank you so much for responding!!

    • @DeesYard
      @DeesYard  2 роки тому +2

      As long as you are using the proper size tubing for the length/gph you are using, your pressure will be evenly distributed thoughtout the system. For all my runs, I've noticed the water fills the mainline first (front to end) and then networks out to the smaller tubing/emitters. Here is a tubing chart on what size your mainline should be (based on length)
      Tubing Size
      Maximum Run Length
      Maximum GPH Supplied
      1/4"
      30 feet
      30 GPH
      1/2"
      200 feet
      200 GPH
      3/4"
      480 feet
      480 GPH
      1"
      960 feet
      960 GPH
      Carbon/charcoal filters will just replace the filter needed. They should be placed below the backflow preventer.

    WOW you covered everything and all my questions..I have an existing drip line but it is totally off on all the spaces where the water flows so I plan to use a lot of the goof plugs, cut the 3/4 line, use the 1/2 elbow and run 1/4 line with the different emitters..will get a little fancy with the emitters though..the previous home owner made a HUGE rectangle with thick piping that is really awkward to garden around so that's the first thing I am getting rid of and use the existing 3/4 line and branch off from there with 1/4 inch coupler line throughout the garden bed using different emitters! THANK YOU for this video!

    Thank you for this very clear and helpful tutorial! I’m about to start setting up a watering system. One quick tip I saw in another non-gardening video for burying hose or pipe - You can use a reciprocating saw with a cheap pruning blade and cut a strip through the lawn or dirt. You can cut both sides of a “ditch, or for hose, just push the hose in the crevace and fold the dirt back down over it. It’s super easy! I’ve also used this method for cutting out crab grass. 😅

    Thank you for the info about the water hammer arrestor. Until this week, I had never heard of water hammer. My timer shut off abruptly, and the pipes under the house started making a tremendous clunking, and my irrigation system was spewing water. It cost $300 for a plumber to come on emergency and troubleshoot. Apparently it was a combination of a water hammer situation and one of the shutoff valves being partially open. I'm going to look into these arrestor devices.

    ☘This is the best demo on setting up an irrigation system. I wished I had come across it when I set up mine. I was still able to learn a few things. Can't wait to watch the one on watering the hanging baskets. I may suggest to use the b-hyve timer by Orbit, instead. It is very affordable, easy to install and WiFi accessible. This way you can monitor the watering from far away, using your phone. I am so thankful that I installed them on mine. The timer detects when it will rain on your area and automatically delay the watering. Many thanks!!☘
