    I’m in my fifties, been sewing for over 30 years and I just got my first serger about 2 years ago. Gloria with coverstitch capabilities. I can’t tell you how much I love it!! The advice I’d heard in my research about sergers is to not snip the preloaded thread but to tie on your new color. No need with this machine! Threading is easy , quick, and uncomplicated. Air threading is a genius idea, just magical. Easy to set up and use straight out of the box even having zero experience with sergers beforehand. I’ve had zero problems with it in two years (despite, naughty, no maintenance). It runs like a dream with perfect stitching every time. Unfortunately We don’t have Babylock sewing machines here in NZ or I’d have one of those too! I wouldn’t buy any other serger , I’d save to get one if I had to, even if it was the cheapest model.

      I have been told Babylock sewing machines aren’t made by Babylock but are re-badged other brands. From my experience Bernina 475q model and up are excellent sewing machines.

    Fantastic demo of what the Babylock can do, I love what the Cover stitch machine can do also. When I win Lotto I will get one 😁!

    I normally don‘t do a lot of research before buying new machines, but I did before getting my first overlocker. And the perfect tension and the easy threading were absolutely convincing. My first overlocker still had an air pump, but it was so easy to do. I have since upgraded to an ovation (when it first came out) and it is so reliable.

    I got my first BabyLock serger around 1989. I now have Enlighten and Euphoria, and - shall I say it - I'm euphoric! The automatic tension - here we go again - takes the tension out of serging. Air threading is just an extra for me.

    Absolutely love my Ovation. I got an Enlighten in July loved it but really wanted a cover stitch machine but I didn’t have space for both. I got the Ovation it’s just so easy to move between the 2. I 💕 it

      That is encouraging. I got an Ovation in December 2015 and then life got crazy a year later and I moved to Scotland and my machine only got used when I visited. Now I’m back and re-learning the machine and enjoying it, but am a little nervous about changing to cover stitch. But I need to learn it, I have so many things I want to do!

    It actually is not an automatic tension. The thread is delivered according to the thickness of the fabric which is defined when it goes under the presser foot. It is the only brand working that way. Most brands have now machines with automatic threading, but you still have to adjust the tension according to the fabric, the traditional way.

    Since I occasionally use a pearl cotton, metallic or other decorative thread in the loopers of my serger or coverstitch (bypassing tension), I didn't go with the air threading. How heavy a thread can you get through air threaded loopers (using regular thread to tie it on)?

    • @Makapida
      @Makapida 2 роки тому

      It actually works very well. Thick or decorative thread is just pulled through the threading system using a loop of thinner thread, then work as usual.
      But I still regret my husqvarna 905… did not like their new models at the time mine broke (and no longer repairable) so went to babylock.

      @@Makapida thank you for the response, After taking a series of non-brand specific serger classes where the Babylock owners struggled with the decorative threads going through the looper pipes (too bad you weren't there!) I purchased a Juki MO735 and Brother CV3550. I do have friends with Babylocks who enjoy them.

      @@juliemulie1805I’m in the Kansas City area. Just bought the Babylock Victory from Missouri Sewing Machine. A friend steered me to a particular sales lady and what a pleasure! Jamie actually switched between stitches so fast I couldn’t keep up. The company also offers limitless one on one educational classes. Regardless, I’d never buy another brand of serger! Baby locks are wonderful!
