    Some science for those that care. The Steam you are seeing escaping from the open oven is regular temperature steam, and should not be called super heated steam. The super heated steam is totally invisible to us humans. The oven is a essentially a hot air oven but re-wets the food on contact as the steam cools and condenses back on the food surface until the food is hot enough to maintain the steam temperature above 212F within the oven. Opening the oven door lets cold air into the oven to drop the superheated steam back to 212F from the 485F making it visible. Actually not a bad product but $395 for a countertop oven at 1750 watts is viable only to a normal oven-less kitchen. To replace some other appliances is allot of watts for the money.

    With the chimney on the back...is it ok to put this “under” cabinets on your countertop? I’m concerned about the steam affecting the wood on the cabinets. Love this appliance :-)

      Good point Giftboutiq, we haven't received an official answer from the manufacturer yet but we suggest not putting it under cabinets since it does release steam out of the back chimney. Would hate to see the moisture ruin/warp your cabinetry.

    We just bought ours as wife and I use toaster oven a lot. This is phenomenal well built ne cheapness factor here love the size of it and no preheating this will save energy. . We have reheated with it , cooked pizza , toasted. My only question is the video shows using both trays when cooking the salmon and veggies. The directions say not to use both trays at the same time. Any insight wold be appreciated.

      @DesignerAppliances  5 років тому

      Don Philippbar, glad to hear! What do you think of toasting with the steam oven? Are you satisfied with the results? To answer your question about the trays, we are not exactly sure since in the demo they used both trays. It could mean you won't get 100% cooking results since two trays may inhibit the circulation of the steam in the small cavity, but we will try to find a better answer for you.

    What are the pans made from? This looks like a great healthy alternative to a microwave but I definitely don't want to cook on aluminum or teflon or a non-stick full of chemicals. I guess nothing is perfect though.

    I agree with TheLastMike -- demo doesn't explain enough -- for example, explain how you can toast bread with steam or make anything crispy with steam. And if it uses convection, then for all those things that you need crispy, it's not using the steam at all? And it looks like the cooking cavity is pretty small -- tell me how big it really is. How big of a bowl, for example with fit in there? I am just thinking about all the things I put in my microwave. Probably a lot of them won't fit in this unit. And will it do things like heat a cup of coffee? Will the cup come out all wet from the steam? Opening that door and having "super heated" steam pour out looks pretty dangerous -- seems a bit to easy to get scalded unless you are very careful and probably should wear a oven mitten. So I guess my question is, will this replace my microwave or will I have buyer's regret after a week?

    • @DesignerAppliances
      @DesignerAppliances  5 років тому +1

      Good question Captain Cinema - this oven isn't meant to replace your standard microwave oven. It depends on your lifestyle and what you cook everyday but people choose a steam oven because it cooks meats and veggies, etc faster than turning on your regular oven. If you work a lot but are super healthy, it is faster and less messy to use the steam oven compared to heating up your regular oven or using your cooktop, etc. Just like some people have a simple toaster but others might prefer a toaster oven for their needs (capacity, achieving crispiness on leftover's that don't fit traditional toaster). It all comes down to personal preference and what will make your life easier on a daily basis.

      Regarding steam or ideally combination steam/normal ovens generally, can you reasonably quickly take a large serve of for example home made frozen lasagne directly out of your freezer and reheat it in the steam oven or would have you have defrost it like normal ovens? I really like to make my food in large batches and to vacuum seal and then freeze portions but having to get it out and defrost in the fridge, for some reason, my fridge keeps items frozen for a very long time, days which means its not exactly convenient to have to defrost the meal and ideally I would like to be able to reheat directly from my freezer for those days where I'm completely worn out and last minute looking for something healthy for dinner. Can a combination steam/normal oven perform this task safely and efficiently?

    • @DesignerAppliances
      @DesignerAppliances  5 років тому

      Hello Tulips Moran - good question, what kind of food do you cook everyday? If its meats, veggies and the occasional pizza, it might work for you but if anything, it could possibly replace your oven or supplement your regular oven if it's too small. For example, you cook your turkey in the oven on Thanksgiving but you can heat up/cook your sides like stuffing, mushrooms, even bake pies or muffins. Though we haven't tested this, we don't think it will heat up your liquids like coffee, teas and soups like a normal microwave would. So it depends on your personal preference and what your needs on a daily basis.

    The oven looks interesting. Though I don't know why they'd go with such a small screen and three tiny buttons looking at the competition in this space. Also it looks like the door will not even open flat. All the better to burn my hand trying to get the try out I guess. That's just poor design.
    The sales pitch itself is awful. I feel like I might be buying aluminum siding. How long would that pizza take in a normal oven? An hour? Oddly the box says 22-25 minutes. LOL. Why make up such obvious BS? Now the box says to preheat the oven and the point is made here several times that no preheat is necessary. Why? I don't know. This thing isn't instantly producing steam I would think. My point though is that some time might be saved if no preheat is truly needed. But if that's actually the case then the sales pitch should tell me why.
    Also - make me some toast. Show me the toast. And don't just tell me this sheet is 40% larger than some vague thing. How big is the pan in inches? Can I use quarter sheet pans? How large a pizza will fit?
    tl,dr: I might buy this in spite of the poor design choices and horrendous sales pitch.

    • @DesignerAppliances
      @DesignerAppliances  5 років тому +1

      Hello thelastmike - you make some interesting points - to answer your question about the pizza - the water tank is what makes the 'no preheat' possible. Have you ever used a steamer for your clothes (not an iron, an actual steamer)? It takes less than a minute for the water to turn into steam. Same happens with this steam oven, once you set your temperature, the steam is immediately produced as it reaches the specific temperature. Essentially, that is a lot faster than preheating your oven. Lastly, the pans are 12.5" x 12.5", so you could fit a 12" pizza (like Digiorno) comfortably in there. Hope this helps!
