All of my favorite hats have the puffed looked and have always loved the look and wondered how is was done. Recently I started hand embroidery to pass the time and wanted to see if I could ever accomplish that level of detail. This video is great and explains everything, I don't have a machine but now I understand the effect.
Hi! Thank you for sharing this with us. Both methods have their advantages, and the choice depends on various factors including the material you're embroidering on, the design complexity, and personal preference.
@@ricomatv Thank you for your reply! Yes. Say the letter S in your design has different width in different places but it is done by a single stitch across. So I am assuming the length of the stitch changes based on what part of the S the machine is working on at this time. So what is the widest stitch length does embroidery machines allow before you have to switch to 2 or more stitches to cover the width?
You explain everything in detail. However, the items you embroidered are caps. You’ve encouraged me to make a purchase of an industrial embroidery machine.
Hello, is there an additional step to set this up to tell the machine that this is a 3D design? Would love to see a video from start to finish on this type of design. Thanks so much.
thank you for your incredibly well done precise videos! i was wondering if you might be able to help me with ?'s on ricoma machines? if so i'd love to hear from you.

Excellent video! I'm from Chile and I want to start customizing caps, what do you think of the Ricoma PV-1501 to do it?, since in Chile right now it is the one they have in stock😊
Hi Felipe! Congrats on taking the next step. This machine would be a great fit for caps, basically if you can hoop it, you can embroider it! It also depends at what stage your business is at!
Question, what if you are doing a business logo on a cap that has 3 different colors? The how would you go about matching the foam color for that? If that makes sense, thank you!

Oh I did sign up to learn more but was asked what type of machine I have. i dont have a ricoma. I have a brother single needle right now. If I should get large, I will be looking to upgrade. So that's y I wanted to learn more on it.
HI there, thanks so much for watching. We suggest the following: - Matching the foam color to your thread. - Using 80/12 needles which work best for cutting into the foam without leaving extra poking out. - Matching foam thickness to the width of the stitches you are working with. If you are embroidering with a thick layer of 3d foam (typically 2 to 3 millimeters), consider raising your presser foot to 1.5 to 2 millimeters to accommodate for this extra layer.
Its hard i've been trying this technique but got extra stitches at the side of my design. I dont knw how to fix it. Do u hv the tutorial on design setting for puff 3d?
Is there any other adjustments that need to be done? I am having thread breaks only when using 3mm foam on a structured cap and 80/12 needle .... should I Do something different with tension?
im looking for a embroidery machines for shoes, shirts (hoodies), hats and patches (puffy, 3d, chenille style and normal), can u tell me a few good machines i should google for? thx
Hi Emma! We recommend using a 75/11 needle. Also, consider checking out our blog where we discuss 3D Puff >info.ricoma.com/blog/how-to-do-3d-puff-embroidery-on-caps

Hi Dawna, the EM-1010 is able to do 3D embroidery. If you are looking to do 3D embroidery as a business we recommend our 1501-TC or MT-1501 as they are our commercial machines and are equipped with bigger motors and can handle larger orders. Hi Anthony! We recommend 3 mm craft foam. There is foam specifically made for this purpose: allstitch.net/product/3mm-puff-foam-for-embroidery-orange-1201.cfm

Hi! You can purchase it at any crafting store.
Very nice
Good Teacher .. But pls what is the thickness of the foam
Check description!
the ending part of using heat technique was really a nice thing to learn.THANK you
I’ve learned burning from inside the cap is better to avoid burning the front

Hi.nice way you explained.can we use craft foam.what size of needle and what type of thread (weight).
Yes you can use craft foam for more tips on thread and needles, watch this video -> ua-cam.com/video/V1M2_aLaNWc/v-deo.html
This video was really nice IT SELF !

You can use any color just add one more step a heat gun and that will make the foam shrink into the logo

What style and or name brand hats do you find to be the best for this type of application
Hi there, thanks so much for watching. We recommend using structured hats for 3D puff embroidery.

I understood that we have to use the puffy foam because the other does not work and is flameable. Is that not true
Great video - does it matter what .MM puffy foam you use? I see that it comes in 2mm, 3mm and larger?
It simply depends on how pronounced you want the effect to be. All are fine.
Awesome video. Gives me the confidence to try this out.

I there a difference in the foam one would purchase at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby than the foam used for embroidery?
No difference, you can even get it from Walmart.
I’ve also seen two different depths of foam; a thinner version and a thicker version. Which do you use?
Hi Carole, we used the regular foam that we purchased from Walmart.
Hi, Great job. The EVA foam what hardness must to be?
Hi! What were you referring to? The foam for the 3D puff?
@@ricomatv Yes I referring for the 3D puff
Are there any adjustments that need to be made for the needles?
You can use a regular 75/11 needle! It totally depends on the detail you want to create or a specific cap you want to do.
The Ligter to the Hat was tellem reallest clean’up technique by far!💯
Utilise, itself, essentially, basically, themselves
you did a great job explaining thanks
Thanks for watching!
I have the TC. Do I need to mess with tension when adding the foam?
Not really, but if you’re not getting good results, slightly looser tension gives better results on puff. But wouldn’t mess with it if no issues
Essentially, its about the depth itself, actually.
Thank you for watching, Jake!
Love this channel🙏🙏🙏
We appreciate that!
Thanks for the video. Can I use temporary adhesive spray instead of tape?
Yes, absolutely!

It depends on the cap, but 75/11 will do just fine!

Can your EM-1010 machine do the 3D puff embroidery?
Yes it can :)
Is there a certain type of foam to use? Also, should density be changed? I have an EM 1010 and I just want to make myself a few 3D puff caps.
Hi Anthony! We recommend 3 mm craft foam. There is foam specifically made for this purpose: allstitch.net/product/3mm-puff-foam-for-embroidery-orange-1201.cfm
You also want to increase the density when doing 3D puff to make sure the stitches cover the foam.
