I didn't grow up with this film (I was eight when it came out, so I was too young to see it), but I just watched it for the first time last night and thought it was fantastic. It was so wonderfully '90s, and I love that the writers actually did their homework about modern Paganism in terms of its basic beliefs and how rituals and spells are done. That was really surprising, considering the '90s were still feeling the effects of the Satanic Panic (I remember them well). The cast did a great job and, while everyone gushes over Nancy, I found her a bit over-the-top for my taste (Fairuza's performance, though, was spectacular). For me, my favorite character was Lirio, the shopkeeper. Overall, a great film and I can see why it became a cult, and occult, classic. Blessed be!
@Association of Free People No, it was definitely still around, or at least its echoes were. And then when Columbine happened a few years later and it was rumored the perpetrators had been into witchcraft and the occult, that sparked a Satanic Panic 2.0. I remember that very well, as I was 11 at the time Columbine happened. And the misunderstandings around Wicca and witchcraft continues into the early 2000s. There was a famous case about the widow of a U.S. solider fighting for the pentacle to be placed on his headstone. At the time, it wasn't listed among the approved religious symbols for fallen soliders, but now it is.
@Association of Free People I know Columbine itself was blamed on video games, and anyone who dressed in Goth or dark clothes got raised eyebrows because the boys were part of the "Trench Coat Mafia", so the story went. Maybe the panic wasn't a direct continuation of the Satanic Panic of the '80s, but they definitely had similar themes: Anything that was deemed too outside the norm by frightened adults was regarded with suspicion. And those suspicions often boiled down to, "The kids aren't growing up with good Christian values". As for the solider--Sgt. Patrick Stewart was his name, and he was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005--the case concerning him was about adding the pentacle to his grave (and other soldiers', if they wished). I remember seeing this on the news. His widow, when she asked military officials where the requested pentacle was on his stone, was told that it wouldn't be included because, "They considered our faith [Wicca] a cult, not a religion." The case went through several court trials before, ultimately, she won and the pentacle was added to list of religious symbols soldiers could pick from for their grave markers. Bottom line is, while the "Satanic Panic" as a cultural thing may be over, thank the gods, there's always going to be people who still just don't get our beliefs. But thankfully, as you said, times are changing.

Charmed is trash, and that show's cast all hate each other and sadly seem pretty messed-up these days (not hating, because I can understand why some of them had their struggles, but it still isn't very 'fun' to watch), whereas The Craft cast all seem pretty well-adjusted today, despite playing pretty disturbed characters in this.
@@GregOrCreg I actually like Charmed, and think that it's a very good show to watch. The only complaint that I have is how much they complain every single episode about being witches. Paige was basically the only one that was happy and really wanted to practice and love her craft, while Piper just bitch and moaned about it. She was always a huge Debbie downer, especially when her and Leo was going through their problems which was just about every single season.
Fairuza made this movie. She WAS THE character. Why she didn't receive an award is beyond me. She was so unhinged but so real in this, it's insane. And the good times they had, the laughter and jokes, it was so relatable. I just cannot get over this movie....
Had to comeback to the original after looking at the sequel, and yeah it doesn't measure up. Maybe It's because I'm older and filled with nostalgia, but new Craft trailer came off as pure cringe.
You’re absolutely right , the whole trailer was cringe . Especially when they said THEE line at the end of the trailer. It feels more like a reboot then a sequel. A water downed cheap copy
It's not nostalgia I am part of this new generation and the remake just sucks, the studio who made it "Blumhouse" prides itself in making low budget movies that rake in a ton of money and people fall for it everytime which is why the industry is such a mess, they can put in half the energy they did back then and make so much more money.
Such an all star cast. Faruza Balk and Neve Campbell. Rachel True, the girl from Half Baked and Half & Half. Also for some reason I always thought Alicia Silverstone was the lead girl in this movie. Turns out it's just another actress named Robin Tunney that looked very similar. Christine Taylor, the chick that played Marsha in the Brady Bunch movies, also made an appearance in this movie if I'm not mistaken.
Just came from the new trailer... Had to come back to the original and feel the love this movie exudes. Definitely puts me in a mood right now. God I hope a good sequel can actually be made.
O watched this movie at the cimama with bunch of my friends, we like 10 guys and girls. It was fun...Wow I miss my teenage years in the 90s. I'm 41 and happily married. Yet many times me and my wife misses the simpler lifestyle and times of the 90s. It was modern enough and still old fashioned to actually have real friends one could hang with and no silly pictured all over the place. Just one group picture and after that have endless fun. And the movies the girls, safety and the fashion and just about everything wasn't too bad either. I'm glad I experienced it. Thank you 1990s.

Charmed lacked originality. Don't be coming here bitching.
Its well known charmed was comisioned because of the success of this film. Plus this is a song from the 80s, neither from Charmed or The Craft.
Not only did The Craft have it first, but this cover was literally commissioned FOR The Craft! Charmed was a sorry rip off.
I needed to come here and purify my soul with this iconic energy after finding out abt the remake.
You simply do not mess with the classics...
I want “We ARE the weirdos, Mister.” On a pin or a shirt. NOW
This is the best film ever, period.
A wonderful movie . They don't make them like this any more.
Fairuza made this movie. She WAS THE character. Why she didn't receive an award is beyond me. She was so unhinged but so real in this, it's insane. And the good times they had, the laughter and jokes, it was so relatable. I just cannot get over this movie....
The 2020 has suddenly made me want to watch the original like every other remake or reboot of 2020
I was 13 when this came out. I literally had a crush on all 4 of these lovely ladies.
To many this is just a movie, but I’ll assure you all this is much more than that.
When goth witches could puff cancer sticks and get away with it, unlike today **cough** The Craft: Legacy **cough**
Stop smoking cancer sticks before it's too late, you are already coughing too much. In most movies coughing is a dead sentence.
Yes, you're correct. Christine Taylor from the Brady Bunch movies, is indeed in this movie as one of the mean girls.
Wow the Charmed credit song I love it I only watched The Craft Legacies
The Craft is still one of my favourite films
Awesome movie. Love this oldie but GOODIE
This movie changed my life when I was only a teen. I miss their 4ever
Who is here after watching the terrible trailer for the Craft: Legacy?
Yep! Fairuza Balk, killer soundtrack, and it doesn’t look like a Degrassi Jr High episode. I had to watch original trailer.
I knew it was hot garbage when they took a bath bomb bath that turned Lisa Frank colored-glitter. This is way better.
Yessir
here!
@Ryu san ya same here , its just okay for me
"I am an amateur writer from Wisconsin who is working on his first book. There is something about this movie trailer of the CRAFT that stirs the imagination. It is really smooth. The girls are him and spunky. I like these girls. Bad girls rock."
The Craft is great movie.
Fairuza real witch
Love the song and Nancy's smile 🤩
I honestly love this more than the 2020 film.
This trailer really intrigued me into watching this movie, which says something about the trailer too! But I genuinely loved this movie, it was really fun and from what I can tell, it’s probably the best movie about witches. Only thing that bugged me was the hair changing scenes CGI was a lil rough but it doesn’t really bother me. I’d give it, 8 spell books outta 10. Check it out!
Damn I wish we could go back and have the 90s again
This trailer gave me goosebumps idk why
Pay your respects to these long-gone actors who appeared in The Craft
- Nathaniel Marston (1975-2015) - Trey
- William Newman (1934-2015) - Street Pearcher
- Tony Genaro (1941-2014) - Bus Driver
- Esther Scott (1953-2020) - Asylum Nurse
Their work on this film will not be forgotten
If Mean Girls was in Hogwarts.
If Mean Girls was more badass like Nancy Downs.
