My theater was sold out, everyone was quiet as a mouse from the chest burst to the crazy final act where everyone was grossed out and scared I loved it and am so hype for the franchise comeback
Absolutely loved it, really don’t understand the hate on this one. The set design was incredible, it was an amalgamation of the entire franchise while also having some original set pieces that were super fun! It’s a high tech space slasher. But much more high brow than Jason x etc
I feel like I am alone in the comment section. I thought it was great, and yes the weird think that seems to be in most movies connected to Disney wasn't felt weird to me, but I still enjoyed it. The movie had me from the beginning and when poop starts hitting I was on the edge until the end. Some would say I am easy but what works for me gets my thumps up.
spoilers maybe???: was good, ,,,,,,but does the things that movies do too much of in sequel franchises these days. Call backs to characters and famous lines from other Alien movies. This movie in particular didn't need it I don't think. And the very very end has shadings of B movie. Though I did like it too. Maybe one of the more entertaining movies I've seen this year.
@@D12345 I absolutely hated the line from Andy in the elevator shaft. That was totally NOT needed. Sure average moviegoers will cheer for it but for Alien fans who follow the franchise and know it well I am sure did not like him saying what he said. Like at least have him say something that fits the character and moment instead of rehashing a line from something that has not even happened yet (Ripley is still floating in space at this time).

So I enjoyed the film, easily the third best. It’s very clear Fede Alvarez is a fan and the callbacks made me feel the feels, seeing the pulse rifle again and put to use made me happy. A giantLlove letter to the first two films and acknowledgement of Prometheus. For the most part the film does a good job where no character makes some really dumb mistake, and because of that it was just so off putting one of the characters make a colossal error so we get that particular third act that does distinguish itself from being a homage film. So as a fan who puts the first two on a pedestal, I’ll take it for now, cause I did walk out enjoying it, but at some point I want to stop with the in-between films and the prequels and move forward post Ripley, even though I know Resurrection made it hard to do that, but still. Or give Sigourney/Clone Ripley one final swan song before she gets too too old. For the record I'm not big on Resurrection, but I'm just tossing ideas and pointing out that Resurrection is chronologically the last film in the franchise and I'd like to maybe see some resolution and move forward after, especially since we haven't seen Ripley on screen since 1997 (I still cry over the cancelled Blomkamp ALIEN film). Mostly every other Alien film tries to emulate the original, but as a fan who prefers Cameron's sequel I just really want to see the Colonial Marines on screen again, especially since they haven't been on screen since 1986. What I'm hoping for in the future is we get something like this. I think it's time to explore that avenue and move forward into the story should this do well, which I think it might. But for now this will do. End rant. Lol.
I've seen online reviews at each end of the spectrum. To me it was an okay movie, not worth a second viewing, not recommending to friends, but a mildly entertaining two hours of my life. I do look forward too seeing Spaenys career going forward.
I really enjoyed the first third of the film but I thought it went downhill from there and really didn't like the final section. A bit disappointed overall, but at least David Jonnson was interesting and Cailee Spaeny is having a good year.
She’s having a breakout year for sure. Priscilla/Civil War/Alien is quite the run in less than a calendar year. I read she’s gonna be in the next Knives Out film too.

It's visually interesting and the actor playing the synthetic was the only person keeping my interest. On a random note, are you checking out "Strange Darling"? This film exists because of the popularization of the phrase "I'm a fan and I want to be serviced" and I AM a huge fan of this WHOLE franchise, and I do not want to be serviced, one of the reasons that I am a huge fan of the franchise is that every single instalment of the franchise brought in new ideas and it swung for the fences and this just feels so safe and has absolutely nothing new on its mind, its the only time i have been incredibly let down by a film in this franchise. And yes I agree with Alonso on the choice to have that certain character in the film, its lazy storytelling and it doesn't even make any sense, it would have made more sense for that to have been another character and they wouldn't have even needed to make it that gross necrophilia that it seems Disney pushes on all its IP's.

Alonso's comparison to The Force Awakens is correct. Romulus does all the stuff that Alien and Aliens did, but with fewer memorable characters. And some of the weirder ideas introduced made me think of The Rise of Skywalker (I did not like TROS)

I want to see it again as I did like aspects and give it a 6.5/10. My score will go up I am sure as I see it a few more times. For the people that are trashing it need to realize it was never going to top Alien/Aliens. I would rate it 3rd overall in the franchise. I saw one reviewer trashing it because they chose to use a younger cast. Like did they want to see a cast filled with the same ages we have already seen!? I can bet if that had happened they would then complain its the same as the other movies.
The look of everything, the sets, monsters, sound design were great, along with the aliens and facehuggers. But the writing was kinda bad. The android doing a Rainman impersonation made me chuckle in the first 10 minutes. And the rest of the characters are 1 note, written closer to something out of the really bad Prometheus prequels. If you're trying to do good sci-fi horror, try to get me to not root for the badguys or roll my eyes everytime one of the characters starts talking. I also feel they mishandled the full grown aliens too, they felt weak and didn't do much. The biggest threat was their acid, and not much else, they show up near the end and are easily defeated by a single rifle before that Prometheus-styled ending that had me laughing. I shouldn't be laughing at an Aliens movie finale. A lot of reviewers are saying this is the best since Aliens, but I think Alien 3 does it much better. I'd rank this after Alien 3... not that good.

UNFORTUNATELY, the internet is FULL of big loud mouths that love ruining things just for the sake of it because it's funny, and I think I read who that character is on numerous movie websites with no regards for secrets. It's out there, everywhere. On a professional movie review website (I won't name it), they actually had a picture of the character. I so miss the mid 90's, going to theater with my friends, no internet, no social media, no cell phones, walking into a movie cold blind and discovering the wonderful things that the cinema spilled forth into our young anxious brains.
My wife loved the movie and I kind of hate it 😅. I had a lot of fun with it, but the more I think about it, the more this film doesn't sit well with me. I'm glad we saw it in theaters though! I actually love Prometheus & Covenant. The ending was the best part for me, but it still doesn't have logic or feel satisfactory, IMO. Why did they push practical effects SOO much in their marketing if they were doing that deepfake crap? 😭 I'm glad people are enjoying it! Genuinely!! The final jump scare was great!
My issue was the age of the leads. They don't look old enough to be pilots or astronauts, as most don't look older than about 25, if not younger. It makes me really miss Sigourney Weaver, Ian Holm, and the rest from the first film.
When the movie doesn't lean into nostalgia it works. It worked enough for me, but it's definitely not Alien or Aliens. I would say from a filmmaking skill perspective it sits after Alien 3 - even though I hate the story, Fincher's execution is top notch compared to this film.
I saw it this morning in Cinemark XD. Really enjoyed it. I said the same thing about it being the best since Aliens. Honestly, the two hours seemed more like one.
Intriguing/interesting first act, awesome second act, third act..... meh. last 10 minutes were trash, but overall GOOD movie with good scares. I am watching it again today 😅
Perfect tone perfect pacing so close being my second fave .plenty of Easter eggs.force awakens of the franchise not a bad thing .they play it safe up until last 20 min blew my mind.my only not pick was a certain appearance maybe extra few mins of alien hiding in plain site stalking the crew.first two acts great last act might be divide fans.9/10 for me.not showing alien too much was awesome less is more just wanted to see a frame of a face hiding in the background and a hide a seek kind of scene apart from that perfect .also I never questions the decisions of the characters as it made sense of the story
Christy - highly recommend seeing it in 4DX for your second time. Glad Disney decided to release it in theaters and not send to Hulu like originally planned.
I haven't gone to the theater in at least a year and a half but last Sunday, after work....i had to see this movie and im glad i did. Although i was one of three at the last showing. Lol
I give it 3 out of 5 stars. Wish they would do something different. Maybe the aliens on Earth, some sort of time travel (Pompeii?), or aliens and zombies. That said, the third act was pretty solid.
I liked the “cool callback”. It sort of works because this movie falls btw alien and aliens. I was actually delighted by it despite the somewhat iffy cgi.
It was fun, the soundtrack was gorgeous and yeah, the Brits were mumbling. Some beautiful effects- for instance, the planetary rings. Very enjoyable, if not original. But what new can be done? A3 tried, but what a downer film. Prometheus tried, but what a mess…albeit pretty to watch. It ain’t easy when the audience already has seen the monster so much we’re old friends. A worthy effort. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
6/10....Prometheus is by far my favorite in the Alien franchise. They should've continue that storyline, but instead the studio wanted to go to a horrible direction with Alien: Covenant (which I enjoyed more than this new one, Romulus). Alien: Romulus felt flat and lacking creativity to easily make it the worst of the Alien franchise.
This movie really said we're going to do are own thing, and then stopped towards the third act. I would of liked it more if they at least made more of the characters interesting.
Y'all gotta rewatch ALIEN 3, RESURRECTION, PROMETHEUS, and COVENANT. They're so much better than you're giving them credit for! I have Prometheus over ALIENS in my ranking. Worth another look for sure. Not a bad ALIEN movie int eh bunch. AVP movies don't count...
So the film took time to think deeply on the 5 questions of saturation, Perceive the: Edges, Negative Spaces, Relationships and Proportions, Chiaroscuro and Gestalt!
The "Alien vs. "Predator" movies were lousy but I at least have to give them credit for trying something different with them instead of just repeating what was already done
It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn fun popcorn flick! Get out of the house and go support your local theater and get some popcorn and go for a wild ride!
I don't feel strongly about the Alien franchise, and I thought this movie felt kinda generic. I guess you can't blame an Alien movie for following the sci-fi horror tropes that it invented, but it still felt predictable because of how similar it was to previous movies.
Alien Romulus was solid. Not amazing nor bad, just solid. Entertaining 'member berry movie. I really think this movie is the Alien version of the Jurassic World release summer 2015, EVERYBODY LOVED it when watching it, all it's fan service, repeat beats, then when seeing it again it's flaws stick out even more...and more, until it kind of sucks and becomes more of a missed opportunity. Also I LOATHE the J-World movies, ALL OF THEM. It looked great, sound design was great, most of the cast was forgettable except for Andy (HBO's Industry) & Rain (Cailee Spaeny of Pacific Rim 2, Devs, Priscilla, Civil War)...the movie was just wayyy too 'member berry for me. Recreating previous Alien film shots, scenes & dialogue/moments and situations from the best Alien films (and even the not so good Alien films) was a weird choice...this is the style of many meh Legacy prequel/sequel from the past 15 years that does not really do it's own thing, but plays out familiar beats of a well known IP (Evil Dead 2013, Robocop 2014 etc) instead of something like 2022's really good "Prey" which did it's own thing in the Predator-verse. Great trailer, but sorry Fede, the actual film didn't live up to the hype I had for the 7th Alien entry (I'm not including the AvP movies).
Agree that 'Prey' was a better sequel as it managed to do its own thing without compromising on the excitement and tension of having a Predator in the woods scenario again, it was just different enough that it carved an identity of its own. Zero callbacks to the other films (except for a lowkey one with the "if it bleeds we can kill it" without winking at the audience).
The English chav suffers gruesomely 👌. Anyways, I just saw the film in true IMAX Friday evening and snagged a few of the promotional posters (I don't know why it's the ScreenX variety though 😅). As someone who, for the _Alien_ franchise, has only seen _Aliens_ (3) and _Alien_ (1) (saw it in its entirety for the 1st time during its rerelease several months back), I love all 3. _Alien: Romulus_ (2) truly goes wild on the body horror more than A1 does, which is great. It's also a fitting intersequel between A1 and A3 in its balanced ratio of horror and action. I have also seen the 2 2010s prequel films, which I love and am meh on (I still can't get over how stupid their exploration costumes look) respectively. I'm not comparing them with A2, because they're primarily intellectual affairs.
The robot actor was really good. This movie kinda devolved into a typical action thriller. But it was still interesting. The xenomorphs didn’t really feel scary
Saw this movie last night and i was disappointed. They rehashed the Aliens Resurrection story line over again and that was a shame. The first half was awesome and I think the cast was great. The second half not so much.
@@jonfreeman9682 I actually enjoyed 4 as well. it's just seeing again in this remake was a bit disappointing.. Having said that the movie is worth watching especially if you're a alien fan
@stewarts8597 Alien Ressurection is my 3rd favorite Alien Movie. The clone room scene and the final 25mins are very disturbing to watch. I might be the goriest Alien movie. I need to rewatch this one to understand the story more, but I would put it in 4th place. Also when they are on the mining planet it was pretty great because we seldom how regular people live in the Alien Universe.
Saw it tonight, liked it but didn't love it. It became too manic and dumb for me after a while. Sometimes a little less is more, it adds to the tension. By the end I felt it became wild and silly just to entertain.
I think the "digital necrophilia" in this is no different than the thing in Ghostbusters Afterlife and I find the whole idea of it deeply offensive. Maybe the family is okay with it, but the principle of it just feels so awful to me. Like even in death the actor has no agency.
"God forbid, Alien vs Predator..." 🙂 Far from the worst in the series, in my opinion - even Ridley Scott did it the dubious honour of ripping it off in Prometheus...
I think the problem with "you know who" showing up again wasn't the concept, it was the execution. The first shots of this legacy character were terrible. The CGI was very very iffy and noticeable. It got much better, but the initial shots were pretty bad, and I'm sure that turned a lot of people off. I thought that character's role in the plot was well conceived and played, but that first glimpse of the CGI was beyond uncanny valley.
I haven't been this disappointed by a movie in a long time. It was going great for 75% of the movie, and then it just went off the rails into stupid territory.
It was good. I guess. It hit all the main notes. By the end it got to be too much. There's no way anyone could survive that. Didn't care for the "fan service".
As someone who ISN’T on the Alien 3/Resurrection apologist train, this was STILL easily the worst of these movies to me. Even the misses swung for the fences; this is just Alien again but worse and with more contemptible use of its IP.
Alien Boromulus. Not scary and not very suspenseful.Gravity scene is good but nothing mind blowing. They just took pieces of all the Alien films and mixed it all to make a new product.i don't think they breathed enough new life in it to make it a satisfactory experience.
Female reviewers seem to like this more so much more than male reviewers. Then again, since the second Alien franchise the series has really become a thinly veiled treatment on motherhood.
The movie was entertaining what i didn't like was the cast, they we'rent interesting, and they look like highschool kid's didn't look like they should be in space
Isn't that the whole point of going into space? TO explore and bring things back so we can science the F out of it and maybe find new minerals and what not?
*This film is not as good as the first two.* The fact that they repeated the same abomination from Alien Resurrection & all the uncessary callbacks, put this movie on the bottom tier of this franchise for me
Romulus competing with Covenant as worst in the series (don't count AVP movies). The first Alien movie to do nothing new...nothing. The first Alien movie not directed by a great director. Uninspired greatest hits but all of the hits are not quite as good as the original versions. It's all dressed up and looking pretty, but empty empty empty.
I don't think this is the best Alien since Aliens. I actually think Covenant and Prometheus are better. it wasn't a good idea to bring back a character from another movie. It was cringe every time they showed it. The end was predictable I saw it coming in the 1st 30 minutes.. Too much fan service. when it's trying to be its own thing that doesn"t work either. very disappointed.

I agree. hated the ending!
So much better on the big screen!
I really enjoyed this movie, 8/10
What the jump scare? I dont watch movies if i know therre are those in it
Seeing it tmrw, Hoping for good things , seems most reviews are good overall
I liked the “cool callback”. It sort of works because this movie falls btw alien and aliens. I was actually delighted by it despite the somewhat iffy cgi.
8/10. Best movie so far in 2024.
Worth the ticket price.
The uncanny valley recreation of a famous late actor was hilarious.
Ha, well said! And yes, all the stuff with the rings was gorgeous.
Like you, I saw it in IMAX. Very good. I think Nick will like it, since it's aimed at a YA audience.
Loved this movie, my favorite Alien Film after Aliens & Alien!
I liked this movie 🍿thanks for the review you were right 😱😂
Had a great time!
I loved this movie you guys! I’m a huge Alien fan! I’m going to see this again tomorrow! Great review your guys!
Why is the Android black?
Wow third best? Now I need to see this. Love the first two.
Unfortunately they don't retcon the Prometheus BS and instead buy into it, which ruined it for me.
So the film took time to think deeply on the 5 questions of saturation, Perceive the: Edges, Negative Spaces, Relationships and Proportions, Chiaroscuro and Gestalt!
The "Alien vs. "Predator" movies were lousy but I at least have to give them credit for trying something different with them instead of just repeating what was already done
lovedthis film 8 out if 10
It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn fun popcorn flick!
Its almost great, certainly good, but if one is able to reign in the quibbles its a damn good time at the theater.
So
Alfonso
Are you saying she journey weaver is been digitally on a screen and she’s going to
Say that famous phrase mmm
"Oops...Xenomorphs" should have been the film's subtitle
This is exactly what I want from the terminator franchise and hope the director does that as well!
He’s not lined up to do the next terminator film 🎥
@@knownpleasures who knows maybe this movie could change things 😅
The robot actor was really good. This movie kinda devolved into a typical action thriller. But it was still interesting. The xenomorphs didn’t really feel scary
Wasn’t he great? He gets to show so much range.
@@BreakfastAllDay The synthetics steal the show
It ain't clunk free but it is the third best Alien for me. Overall I enjoyed it, but the fan servicey stuff was a bit frustrating.
Looking forward to it
"digital necrophilia" is a great description.
It will never cease to shock me that Alonso can rattle off opinions about each of the Alien movies but refuses to watch Lord of the Rings 😂😭
Saw this movie last night and i was disappointed. They rehashed the Aliens Resurrection story line over again and that was a shame. The first half was awesome and I think the cast was great. The second half not so much.
I never saw that all the way through but it seems like that was the strangest part of that movie. lol.
Well alien 4 is a cult classic and it brought something new to the lore with genetic engineering.
Barbarian was a borefest and everyone loved it, so I'll check it out.
I’m seeing it tomorrow night at 9:00 in imax.
Force Awakens...yikes.
I’m also seeing: Didi and Sing Sing!
Big weekend!
Unfortunately they don't retcon the Prometheus/Covenant BS and instead buy into it, which ruined it for me.
@1:06 lol
So you're saying it was great until it wasn't. So you didn't like the story ending then.
@@jonfreeman9682 exactly.
75% great is already rare these days lol
It wasn't stupid, since it's well established by the franchise that such things can happen. Too bad they couldn't bring him to the NBA draft.
It was good. I guess. It hit all the main notes. By the end it got to be too much. There's no way anyone could survive that. Didn't care for the "fan service".
Sorry - major plot that the installation ship is left to drift w/o tracking or retrieval by Weyland company is not believable at all.
Alien: The Shiny Black Yip-yips Awaken
There’s only one way I’ll return to watching the franchise: everyone unanimously agrees to kill the aliens, no discussion.
As someone who ISN’T on the Alien 3/Resurrection apologist train, this was STILL easily the worst of these movies to me. Even the misses swung for the fences; this is just Alien again but worse and with more contemptible use of its IP.
I think you went into it trying not to enjoy it.
@@sprcrzy110 then you think wrong, my friend.
90% of A:R was great! But that ending did not work for me at all.
Spoil away. There are no rules. Anarchy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
There are people in today's world who would probably consider anything beyond
"THIS IS A MOVIE...."
To be a spoiler.
well done film in terms of craft, esp. the first 30 minutes. then it becomes schlock and repetitive, nothing new if you've seen an alien film before
The movie was entertaining what i didn't like was the cast, they we'rent interesting, and they look like highschool kid's didn't look like they should be in space
Isn't that the whole point of going into space? TO explore and bring things back so we can science the F out of it and maybe find new minerals and what not?
Aliens:The Force Awakens I think I’ll pass
The deepfake of you know who was so awful
*This film is not as good as the first two.* The fact that they repeated the same abomination from Alien Resurrection & all the uncessary callbacks, put this movie on the bottom tier of this franchise for me
I wish they just made a follow-up on Covenant instead of making this sandwiched movie.
This is more Rogue One than Force Awakens, great movie
Too much fan service. when it's trying to be its own thing that doesn"t work either. very disappointed.
are critics high? this was a borefest
Fans are saying it's the greatest of all time but still can't beat first two.
@@jonfreeman9682 Bullshit
