This songs this out in vivid memory for me. It’s the same old story over and over. You meet someone and they show you a beautiful crystallized world of colors, sensations, feelings. And you’re constantly there trying to capture as much as you can so that initial great high doesn’t go away. But you’re using a net light enough to not damage a butterfly. As gentle as you are you can never catch the light or reflections. To me it’s about being insecure and idolizing the person you’re falling in love with. It’s desperate it’s bright.
Earth went silent London fell asleep She dreamed of winter Where you appeared to me Perfect timing as new petals in November A tender creature, a fever Disarming, fluorescent There you were With your mirror Shining the world all over me There I was With my butterfly net Trying to catch your light I collected stupid ashes So that after you'd gone I could hold onto something But you stayed unwavering Through every false goodbye Unsubsiding, pining For now and for never There you were With your mirror Shining the world all over me There I was With my butterfly net Trying to catch your light Oh, if only The umbrella of the sky Could wrap us up and up That's where I'd zoom in close Dilated as your eyes Until then I'll keep it brief Faithful inertia Her bullet doesn't slow It seeks and finds me How far it goes Heaven help me Take this bag of wings And drown it in the Thames And wake tomorrow hollow Hardly forgetting There you were There I was With my butterfly net Trying to catch your light 🥹✨✨
I can't deny that Butterfly Net is a really good song, despite some clichés. As Pitchfork editors said, this is a song that a princess sings to herself while looking at her reflection. It pairs really well with Ripples by Genesis (1976). So while it's a song that we olds have sort-of heard before, that organ on the album version, that ethereal bridge and Caroline's flawless vocals lift it up high. And who would have thought that this would be the song that would open to door to collaborations with Natalie Mering / Weyes Blood, well known for her retro 1970s sound?
It is one thing to get it right in a multi-track studio where you can patiently polish to your heart's desire; but, to get it picture perfect in a single session puts any band at the apex of their game. And, at the centre of this constellation, we find the carnelian in the crown, accompanied by her lamentation of celestial swans. Caroline, the aptly named "song of happiness", is indeed a free woman, and a magical muse manifest in human female form. Oh! If only ... I could honk like that ... and fly so high across the evening sky!
This woman is incredible.
lowkey my favorite song on the record. Glad she played this one 😻🥍🪞🦋

Weyes Blood brought me here, this is an amazing song and performance.
Earth went silent
London fell asleep
She dreamed of winter
Where you appeared to me
Perfect timing as new petals in November
A tender creature, a fever
Disarming, fluorescent
There you were
With your mirror
Shining the world all over me
There I was
With my butterfly net
Trying to catch your light
I collected stupid ashes
So that after you'd gone
I could hold onto something
But you stayed unwavering
Through every false goodbye
Unsubsiding, pining
For now and for never
There you were
With your mirror
Shining the world all over me
There I was
With my butterfly net
Trying to catch your light
Oh, if only
The umbrella of the sky
Could wrap us up and up
That's where I'd zoom in close
Dilated as your eyes
Until then I'll keep it brief
Faithful inertia
Her bullet doesn't slow
It seeks and finds me
How far it goes
Heaven help me
Take this bag of wings
And drown it in the Thames
And wake tomorrow hollow
Hardly forgetting
There you were
There I was
With my butterfly net
Trying to catch your light

Sooth my soul with your voice. Make me believe there is good in mankind.
The little sections of dye in Caroline’s hair remind me of the music video for I Belong in Your Arms (Japanese Version)
She goes so sharp at the lyrical part - and all composition - is beyond!
she is everything
I don't need to watch the video to know that it's beautiful art.
Better version than the original. Best video in the entire UA-cam. Beautiful Artistry

She seems elfish, granted I know nothing about elves and all that sort of stuff... But if you gave her pointy ears, she's be an elf as far as I know.
Is she really playing that keyboard part?
