Proxy Falls: A Popular Destination Hidden by Snow
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 лют 2022
- In this video we visit Proxy Falls in the winter. This is a popular waterfall destination on the old McKenzie highway 242. From winter through early summer this highway is closed by snow and a gate. Winter waterfall seekers must travel an extra couple miles to get to the Proxy Falls trailhead. The waterfall itself is very impressive

Another well put together video!Great work and narration.Stunning waterfall🌟Great share!Thanks Matt✨
Thank you! I kind of enjoyed cutting out the music from half of it. It is fun to switch things up.
Wow, beautiful falls! I might need to add this to my hiking list. Pretty amazing to have a place like that all to yourselves. Happy trails!
Thanks. It is a good one. Be prepared for crowds in the summer!
Proxy falls is so beautiful. I haven't been since I was a teenager. A friend and her family took me along for a cross country ski trip after a fresh snow. I will always be grateful for that. It was a ton of fun. My daughter loves your dog btw :D
Thank you. I hadn't been there in forever too. I will tell Ahsoka she has a fan!
@@MattCookOregon I love that name. Beautiful dog.
Love that hike. Perfect when you can get it all by yourself.
It is a nice one. The uncertainty makes it empty usually.
Excellent adventure and information! I've been wanting to hike to Proxy Falls in the winter time so that provided some great inspiration. The slo-mo gopro shots were a nice addition!
Thanks Zoomdak. This would be right up your alley. I was picturing a bit more of a rough adventure having to break a trail with snow shoes. Oh well easy is nice sometimes.
@@MattCookOregon I guess that makes up for a hike that you thought was going to be simple and ended up being a sufferfest.
Another beautiful waterfall hike captured in full glory. It's added to our list!
Thanks Rob. Of the many options this is one of my favs. it is a total zoo in summer though!
Looked like a beautiful day for a hike.
It was perfect!
Beautiful! Ah, i love the Cascades........your pup is becoming a very good scout!
Thank you. She is a great partner. I try to let her have her way as much as I can. That way we both are happy with our adventures.
Nice transition from Google Earth to drone! Beautiful spot. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much Vega! It was a bit of an awkward angle for the transition but I went for it. A lot better if you aren't so low and have the terrible resolution on google earth.
Great video of Proxy Falls! I have never went out there in the winter. It looks like it is very worth it to enjoy some solitude. Quite the experience to have that area to yourself!
Thanks Northcoast. I am all about visiting things in their off season. Best way to do it if possible.
Your video was great to feel the beauty of challenge and healing together!👍👏
Matt.Cook.Oregon! 🍀
Have a great day full of smiles! 🙏
Thank you! Nature is the great healer.
Wow, those are beautiful falls, thanks for sharing 👍 😀
Thank you very much!
This was so well done! Those drone shots are 🔥 The falls looked absolutely spectacular!
Thank you! I like to set a good example and only fly where I am supposed to.
Nice. I did a Proxy Falls video nine years ago with my little pocket cam. "Proxy Falls July 2nd 2012, Upper, and Lower."
So you are here to claim copyright huh. Fine. You can have 50%. That will be 70 cents. Come pickup whenever you have time.
@@MattCookOregon Sweet! I have nothing from my channel, so 0.70 would be awesome! Keep up the good work!
@@Sagina1999 gas costed 25$ so I will put it on your tab!
@@MattCookOregon Yea, you way too hard core for me!
A great hike and historical area to visit is the Fort to Sea Hike at Fort Clatsop. We always start at the sea and hike to the fort, have lunch, visit, and hike back to Sunset Beach. About 13 miles and it is fun because I am a fan of Lewis and Clark.
Oh wow thanks. There are a ton of forts there. My dad has really wanted me to cover the civil war fort.
Winter is the Best time for Adventure!
We get it to ourselves....
Exactly! Where are all the people? Great times to be had out there.
I love the "after a quick bathroom break scene ". Why? You whistle and your hiking buddy appeared from the back of that area.
I can't believe you went into the water in winter
I thought that was a cute scene between us!
Another great adventure, Matt! Thanks for sharing (and adding to my bucket list when I get back in June).
Thank you. Prepare for crowds in June!
Hi Matt. Awesome shot at 6:00 Thanks for the video. Regards from Ody Slim
Thanks Scott! The tripod shots are definitely my favorite too. So clean.
WOW! I'm in awe with the beauty & very thankful for all the information. It's like coming along with a great tour guide!
Thanks for checking out some videos dude. Always fun to look around at what other people are doing and get some inspiration.
@@MattCookOregon FACTS MAN! Keep doing your thing. It's Amazing!
It’s stunning!
True!
💖🤩I had the trapper keeper when I was 12 or so with a beautiful photo of Upper Proxy Falls on it! I was always curious about it. Love this!!💖👍
Wow that is some trapper keeper! I had xmen haha,
Well done! Thanks for sharing this video and valueable information!
Thank you. Had some clean tripod shots like you. I went on a bit of a waterfall spree lately. Hopefully will think of something else good soon.
My old stomping grounds. Lived in the McKenzie River for over 23 years. the Upper Proxy Falls is one of my most favorite places in the world. One thing you didn't mention is didn't mention in the video was that all that water runs into a small pool with no outlet!! It drains down through the lava rock and comes out miles down the mountain to form Lost Creek. Thank you for your video!!!
Nice. That would have been good info. Is that the pool at the upper falls? Or down the creek.
That is a cool fact, I didn’t know that.
@@MattCookOregon that would be the upper Falls. Usually in the summer the lower falls is not as impressive, so we always go to the left trail and right to the Upper Falls. You may be able to get more information on the pool and Lost Creek at the McKenzie Bridge Ranger Station. I can see if I can share some pictures on your Facebook page that I took on our last trip to Proxy.
@@MattCookOregon The pool is at the base of the Upper Falls. You show the pool, and you crossed it (at 8.42) to get the next shot of the falls. Because of the snow, you may have not noticed that there was no outlet to the pool. That is my favorite spot on earth. Thank you for your great photography, particularly the drone footage.
So different and so beautiful with snow. We got lucky and had the trail to ourselves this last August in the morning.
Great drone shot of the falls.
Beautiful video.
Thank you dadwoof. That is surprising, it is always packed when I drive by.
Glad you're still making videos man!
Been all over the sisters wilderness but I don't think I've hiked through proxy falls lol
Thanks Stefan. Videos give me a good feeling so I continue on. I never thought it this as wilderness, not often you get a short little mile loop in wilderness.
We just recently found your UA-cam channel and are watching all your videos. Your information and videos are excellent.
Thanks Melissa. I only do these when it is fun to me, so they usually turn out pretty good. If you have any ideas or requests I am open to hear them.
Great destination for winter hiking! The waterfall is beautiful. I previously visited Sahalie Falls and should have checked out Proxy Falls while in the area. I'll make sure to put it on my list for next time.
Thanks JRM. Sahalie is another good one I did a video at ages ago.
@@MattCookOregon I watched your video on Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls (winter hike). It was awesome.
Great Video and awesome footage!
Thank you! Always nice to have approval from an Oregon Man.
Beautiful video. We'll be travelling through Oregon soon and I'm dreaming up some ideas for places to go. So many possibilities!
Thank you. I got lots of ideas for you on this channel. My main common travel advice here is plan less things, leave room to enjoy places longer and let the adventures happen.
@@MattCookOregon Great advice for any trip indeed! I may have some questions for you before we go!
Oh, wow. Nice place!
Yep. I highly recommend it.
Great video thank you 👍🏻
Thanks for binging me like netflix!
Looks like an amazing spot!
Although I can’t hear that name without thinking of PROXY the droid from Star Wars: Force Unleashed. 🤣
It is. My dogs name will distract you as well then, Ahsoka.
Super cool Matt! I hope the dog walking youtubers don't laugh at ya
Thank youl. Dog walkers?! Is that a thing?!
@@MattCookOregon no idea. i mean i assume so, right?
Nice
Thanks!
A beautiful hike to Proxy falls - I've never seen it in the winter. What is that special map you were using on your phone in case you got off course? That seemed really helpful, so you don't get lost in the snow. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! The app is gaia gps. 20$ a year for pro which is needed for making routes offline, very worth it.
I recently found your channel! I love it!
Awesome thanks. Lots of outdoor fun on this channel. Hopefully some more mountain climbing this year.
Matt, I check with a friend who is the retired Ranger at McKenzie Bridge just to double check on the information I gave you about Lost Creek. WELL! What I found out and didn't know that White Branch Creek also get tangled up in that also. Quite interesting to know.
Thanks for checking that. Makes sense. Cover the rivers in lava and they find their way.
Ahh I'm your 50th 'Like" Huge Thumbs up, but it should have come sooner. Enjoyable hike, the Falls were beautiful and the done footage special indeed. Would you have liked to spend the night with the falls as the only background sound? I think the McKenzie River and it's tributaries region are in some of Oregon's finest lands. But then Oregon is so diversified in its offerings of beauty and special sereneness that any one section is to hard to call as tops. Thanks so much for taking us along Matt, Blessings your way Pal, ... Mike. Shared!
Thanks Mike. I did think about an overnight. I would want to be further from the falls cause man they are loud. I have to limit the overnights until my daughter can join me!
@@MattCookOregon Ah yes, of course, and I assure you all Dad's find that there Daughters grow up far to fast. Such precious times lay ahead for you both. The good Lord Bless You and your Family Matt. I've not been to those falls before and all the surface area the water is flowing over would be loud indeed.
I am amazed that you did not show and comment on the pool at the bottom of the upper falls not having an outlet. That is the most interesting to me. Other than that Great video.
Interesting, I never thought about it. Now I want to go find where it drains. Some underground cavern like into blue pool.
Just went for the first time. Also saw lower Linton Falls and White Branch Falls. Have you ever seen the falls just above lower proxy falls?
Nice. I haven't been at the top of Proxy. How do you get there?
Loved the video! We will be traveling there around Mid-March. Do you think the road will still be closed at that time?
Thank you. Yes. It always opens around late June. Snow would likely be clear but they keep the gate closed so people don't go up the pass and get trouble.
@@MattCookOregon Thank you for the reply! I am bummed as I really wanted to hike it but I don't think we will have enough time with the extra 6 miles.
Awesome! How come you cannot fly a drone there?
No drones allowed in wilderness. It's nice to keep motors out of some places.
How many of those wandering footprints stopped at yellow snow?
Haha wow that was probably what my dog was so interested in.
this is a7 IV, right. In about 6 min, the image look a bit oversharpened. Di d you add extra shipeing ? Or is the in body sharpening not set lo low values ? I think , like the a7 s III, the in cam sharpening can not be turned all the way OFF. just curious, what lenese is that ?
Hey thanks for taking a look. I am new to a7 so might not be doing things optimally. Camera sharpening is at default. Then I add a bit of sharpening in premiere. I haven't ever noticed over sharpening but maybe should take a closer look. Lens is the Sony 24-105m.
@@MattCookOregon aha, I see. Some people even turn down sharpening all they can, but still both a7 IV and a7 s III, is adding some, that you can not turn off :) But, I advice you not to add any shappeing in post. I have a 4k , 43 inch moviedgrading monitor. Ok, .anyway, nice shots, reminds me of my hometown a bit, Norway :) great lense
@@merakerli Thanks. I am not seeing the downside. UA-cam adds some pixelation always which sucks, maybe it is that?
@@MattCookOregon the downside is that overshaprpened footage look ; " video-ish", and non-pro, You take away also, the organic feel. Dont push it in post ;)
What was the date of your visit? Thanks
Late January 2022.
Help NYM-OS BOT
Thank you.
I still think this is top 2 favorites here in oregon so far
Whats the other top 2?!
