@@robjackson5245 No they're not. Both the Keldon and Galor class are weak compared to their Federation counterparts. The Cardassians just built a lot of them. The Dominion upgraded both later on in the series when they allied and they still acted like Mirandas in battle---particularly the Galor. Watch TNG "The Wounded"---the Cardassian technology is so far behind the Federation that the Enterprise can, without much effort, read the transponder codes of a Cardassian warship. And Macet's entourage after getting caught spying on the Enterprise reports the technology he saw was far superior to their own.

Not sure the cloaking device would have been of much use at this point. The Klingons have to figure the Defiant would make a beeline straight back to DS9.
@@Vsor but everyone knows where the Defiant's home station is .... and the Klingons likely had a cloaked armada at DS9/in the Bajoran system from the onset. early in the two-parter, Kira noted that it was hard to tell how many Klingon ships were in the area cuz they were cloaking in/out. Gowron and Martok were gearing up for a battle from the jump.
I think that was just older cloaking devices, since I remember the Bird of Prey in Generations was older than normal, while the Klingons in TNG had a few scenes where they'd cloaked but still seemed to be taking disruptor fire to their shields (where they disappeared while under fire, and still had shields up).
Only ship I ever heard of in the Trek universe that could maintain shields while cloaked was the Scimitar because it had both primary and secondary shields.
You forget about some romulan ships other than the scimitar, they had a perfect cloak, to where they could cloak with shields on. Problem was they could not fire. I believe the Romulan TOS Warbird could, but I may have been mistaken.
@@flowerlord0 Nope no Romulan ship regardless of cloak could fire while cloaked, at least it was never shown on screen.. Only other ship in Star Trek canon that could do that was Kangs Bird of Prey in Star Trek VI.
Can we just say props to Bashir for giving a for real, actual, goddamn order? Backed up by force. "Give me your arm or I'll have a security officer do it for you!"
From what I remember, the transporters would register the changeling as whatever they were disguised as. A blood test removes a part of the changeling, and that part can't maintain its form. As a result, it was really the only way to guarantee you'd get 100% effective results.
I remember when TNG firsts episode aired and the next day the review in the paper said " they scrapped the klingons off the starboard bow and put them on the bridge " 😅
Sisco: Nah, he`s not a klingon, nothing to worry about. Switch to... Worf: WHAT????If you were any other man I would kill where you stand Sisco: See? Completely harmless Jadzia: And he likes when I dominate him Dukat: Oh well sorry bro, I didn`t know your situation Worf: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh, I`m gonna cry in my room
Sisko: "The Defiant was designed to fight and defeat the Borg!" Takes a dozen volleys just to take out one flimsy Bird-Of-Prey. Sisko:"...Its a work in progress."
The Defiant was made to be in a pack of several other Defiants, not a single ship. The program got cancelled before many were built, so no pack. Overall, she packs about the firepower of a Galaxy class in a much smaller frame, which is nothing to sneeze at.
That look dukat gives at the end when the video cuts just screams you know if this was a cardassian ship we would have a spare cloaking device, we do that's busted as well, AHH I see well never the less if this was a cardassian ship we would have a spare for our spare.
Worf said he had never been on a Federation ship with a cloaking device. I guess he forgot about the cloaking device that belonged to USS Pegasus that Enterprise-D used.
It wasn't a cloaking device aa much as a phase-shift device. Cloak generates a field around the ship, Pegasus device affected the ship and all its contents
@@punchkitten874 They kept calling it a cloaking device the entire show. It wasn’t until Riker went into details that the “phase shift” aspect came into it.
the device was experimental at best and Picard was glad to have gotten rid of it. Worf would likely know the difference between a klingon vessel and the Enterprise under cloak. Even in the future Picard, Geordi and Seven are shocked when the Titan is suddenly cloaked, indicating this is not normal procedure.
Dukat was brave in this episode. But he was not prepared to sacrifice his life. He was most likely in command of the Cardassian vessel. Yet the old ham was aboard the Defiant with half the Detapa Council still aboard his doomed ship. Honor dictates that the captain must be the last to leave the ship. But Dukat was never one to abide by such principles. Shameless as ever Dukat praises his own 'patriotism' later to Garek. I loved DS9. Truth be told I still do. Marc Alaimo and Avery Brooks both played their parts to perfection. But, all the actors and actresses were marvelous in their respective roles.
Originally the script was, Sisko said in a determined voice, Looks like we are going to see how much pounding she can take. However the editing room was like....uh .....no better say ship.
It's funny how Dukat is one of the first to get off his ship. I guess in Cardassia the saying goes 'ship commanders first, women, children, and leaders of your home world - last' 🙄
The Defiant could have taken the Vor`cha apart. The Bird of prey blew after one alpha Strike. It was a little plot convenience to abort the fighting for the rescue but imho that made the episode more exiting.
I think this scene is telling at how selfish Dukat really is. After transporting the council members he was the first one to leave before his crew. He basically allowed his entire crew to die while he ran.
I just noticed something after all this time. Sisko gives the order to raise shields and activate the cloak, but aren't ships under cloak unable to have their shields up?
yes and no. while cloak is up shields no longer protect you, but the cloak requires the shields to generate the cloaking field (it uses their emitters to project the light warping field.) plus, it takes a few seconds before you can initiate cloak, but shields can go up nearly instantly, so having the shields up as you pull away is a good idea.
Despite how dated the CGI and production design is, it still holds up very well even by today standards, goes to show that with the right talent you can make things last quite well for a long time.
I think the battles in DS9 still look impressive, and I've seen enough 21st century big-budget movies to spoil me for that sort of thing. They did a fantastic job.
@@blppt No idiot. They are far more advanced.
@@blppt That episode means nothing. They still shot the Enterprise pretty badly in the beginning.
No he doesn't. But of course you can't understand English or perhaps "relativism" is your belief.
@@robjackson5245 "They still shot the Enterprise pretty badly in the beginning. "
No, they didn't. Matter of fact, Picard arrogantly tells Macet that "if we continue firing at each other you'd be at a disadvantage".
The Cardassians are not on the same level of tech as the Federation. Even after the Dominion upgrades, the Galors were like Mirandas in battle---tissue paper.
Me as the Klingon Commander, what they lower sheilds. Don't they know we carry 1000 troops, muhahaha, beam over boarding parties, but commander the script calls for them to escape, damn it, just carry on flying in to their deflector beam then.
They'd have to lower their shields
It's almost like the heroes in genre television action scenes have to survive for the show you like to continue instead of ending abruptly and absurdly
Except then the suspected Founders could infiltrate the Klingons. Better to not risk it.
Lower your shields while Worf is firing at his discretion? I see you want to go to Sto Vo Kor early
@@jasonb.6623theres no stovokor for the blundering commander who lowered his shields straight into a photon torpedo volley
Imagine the trouble Sisko would have saved the Alpha Quadrant if he just hasn't saved Dukat 😆
Not sure the cloaking device would have been of much use at this point. The Klingons have to figure the Defiant would make a beeline straight back to DS9.
True, but they wouldn't have been able to target the Defiant with weapons until it decloaked back at the station.
They didn't fire at the Defiant in any case. but the Klingons already had a strike force at DS9.
If you can cloak, you can afford to take a more circuitous path.
@@Vsor and the Defiant even having to cloak the ship between Bajor and Cardassia shows how much Klingon presence there was in that part of the AQ.
"I assure you doctor, I'm not a changeling."
Oh, good to hear! Okay then, yeah just go on up to the bridge. Glad you cleared that up!
"We need AT LEAST another minute" 18 seconds later "the council members are aboard" - Cardassian efficency I guess
He was nearly Cardassian in his punctuality 😁
Arguably the best episode of the series.
Please.....in a pale moonlight, is the best episode ever!!!!!!!
"Raise shields! Engage the Cloak!"
Dont the shields go back down when you engage the cloaking device?
generally yes, i would think he meant to get it ready so once they were clear they could cloak
That shot of the Defiant ripping that BoP to shreds is just… *chefs kiss*
Sisko: It's a machine gun!
Worf: Hur hur, okay!
0:08, it was at this moment he knew he F up.
Ducat needs a minute. 20 seconds later they're all onboard.
The episode already ran over time, they had shit to do.
Dukat doing his best impersonation of the captain of the Costa Concordia.
First one off!!
When you let worf target "at his Discretion" You know shit is going to get blown up
Love the detail like losing the aft torpedo launcher why they can’t shake the Klingons tailing.
They weren't actually using it though. The Defiant doesn't launch so much as a single torpedo in that skirmish.
That shot of the Defiant taking out the BoP is just glorious.
Sisko: We're gonna learn how much of a pounding this ship can take.
Worf: ......sir?
Can we just say props to Bashir for giving a for real, actual, goddamn order? Backed up by force.
"Give me your arm or I'll have a security officer do it for you!"
"Are you aware there's a Klingon on your bridge?"
"You don't have to lower your voice. He knows he's a Klingon!"
Transporters pick you apart and reform you. O'Brien used to disarm weapons while people were still in the buffer. Yet they still need a blood test.
From what I remember, the transporters would register the changeling as whatever they were disguised as. A blood test removes a part of the changeling, and that part can't maintain its form. As a result, it was really the only way to guarantee you'd get 100% effective results.
Crazy that no one understands the bet thing going at the end. There was no bet
Indeed. I never noticed befire that Sisko seemed curious when she began to seak and smiled at the end and played along by saying "I lost".
Best part: the Security officer grinning at the byplay.
There's also Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow, Ben.
I remember when TNG firsts episode aired and the next day the review in the paper said " they scrapped the klingons off the starboard bow and put them on the bridge " 😅
So this is what happens when Klingons get bored...
Sisco: Nah, he`s not a klingon, nothing to worry about. Switch to...
Worf: WHAT????If you were any other man I would kill where you stand
Sisco: See? Completely harmless
Jadzia: And he likes when I dominate him
Dukat: Oh well sorry bro, I didn`t know your situation
Worf: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh, I`m gonna cry in my room
I'd like it if Jadzia dommed me too
He said while Sisko is sitting 😁
Have the doctor stand by. I want our guests to have COVID screenings. No vaccine then beam them back.!!!
Bashir's burn game was on point
Are You aware there is a Klingon on your bridge? security intruder alert we have been boarded by the klingon's fire at will!!!!
I love how it ended meme-ish with the guys look at the end. 😅
Sisko: "The Defiant was designed to fight and defeat the Borg!"
Takes a dozen volleys just to take out one flimsy Bird-Of-Prey.
Sisko:"...Its a work in progress."
Federation weapons usually operate @20% Power by default. Worf disabled that in this scene for a short time.
The Defiant was made to be in a pack of several other Defiants, not a single ship. The program got cancelled before many were built, so no pack. Overall, she packs about the firepower of a Galaxy class in a much smaller frame, which is nothing to sneeze at.
"WORF, The Great Klingon Traitor!"
I swear… the cloaking device is the most delicate piece of technology on Stark Trek.
Obi-wan Sikoski: He's not the Klingon you're looking for
Dukat; He's not the Klingon we're looking for.
*Sir, the ablativ armor is down to 1% and failing!*
whats the status on the Plot Armor?
*100% Sir!.... 100 fucking %!*
o7
History will remember that as the Worf Maneuver.
I like the way Worf pronounces Vor'cha.
Cloaking Device.exe (Not Responding)
I hope Sisko know that 'target at your discretion' means blow them to Sto'vo'kor as far as Worf is concerned!
Dukaht: the council members are aboard!
Sisko Screws the pooch: Raise shields and activate cloak!
“The ablative armor is holding”
That does not compute. 😂
Ablative armor is meant to be blown off, isn’t it?
1:03 "Haha, got your nose!"
Look at that stature!!! Ducat was the perfect Kardashian
So I guess I need to watch the next season, and quickly!
Sisko was a badass Captain.
these council members didn't value their lives too much cuz they were slow AF in getting ready for transport.
"Target at your discretion."
Somewhere, Picard is feeling infuriated and triggered like never before and doesn't know why.
Man I love Worf
It would have been funny if sisko said what Klingon and work grawled
That look dukat gives at the end when the video cuts just screams you know if this was a cardassian ship we would have a spare cloaking device, we do that's busted as well, AHH I see well never the less if this was a cardassian ship we would have a spare for our spare.
I hope the cloaking device came with some kind of warranty from the Romulans.
I am certain Dukat guessed that their cloak was not working, so instead of asking he made an obvious suggestion to get his answer.
Bad reboot's mystery box be damned, you'll never see Trek like this again.
@@Manolo0528 it was a mix of cloak and phase shifting. it still provided them with a means of cloaking.
he'd probably consider that a technicality and be annoyed by you correcting him : )
the device was experimental at best and Picard was glad to have gotten rid of it. Worf would likely know the difference between a klingon vessel and the Enterprise under cloak. Even in the future Picard, Geordi and Seven are shocked when the Titan is suddenly cloaked, indicating this is not normal procedure.
3:33 sisko pulled an obi-wan kenobi mind trick. Though without the jedi powers.
Honour is something peculiar to Human (and, even more, Klingon) culture.
Dukat with first group transported off that ship.
That's not the Klingon you have to worry about these are the Klingons you have worried about
MAXIMUM WORF!
Originally the script was, Sisko said in a determined voice, Looks like we are going to see how much pounding she can take. However the editing room was like....uh .....no better say ship.
😽
It's funny how Dukat is one of the first to get off his ship. I guess in Cardassia the saying goes 'ship commanders first, women, children, and leaders of your home world - last' 🙄
I love this scene
1:06 Vor'cha: "Shit, who taught them that?"
The Klingon Empire is manipulated by the Dominion.
The defiant may be smaller than the enterprise but it can take hits that would weaken the enterprise much faster
The enterprise D was an exploration vessel. The defiant and enterprise E were designed as warships.
Smaller target makes it harder to hit.
Since when did the defiant have aft torpedo launchres? Did we everf see them used on screen?
A couple of times, not often though.
Worf stayed on DS9 because Sisko let him do all the things Picard never did. He finally got to use Photon Torpedoes.
“Ablative armor”🙄 These writers kept forgetting a photon torpedo has an antimatter warhead and makes a nuke look like baby stuff.
The Defiant could have taken the Vor`cha apart. The Bird of prey blew after one alpha Strike. It was a little plot convenience to abort the fighting for the rescue but imho that made the episode more exiting.
better to have a klingon on the bridge of ones ship than on uranus
Why did they stop shooting at the Klingons? Why not destroy the two birds of prey and then transport. Eapecially if theyre point blank
Why do Klingon and Rommulan ships look so similat?
Despite how dated the CGI and production design is, it still holds up very well even by today standards, goes to show that with the right talent you can make things last quite well for a long time.
I think the battles in DS9 still look impressive, and I've seen enough 21st century big-budget movies to spoil me for that sort of thing. They did a fantastic job. The CGI might look dated, but it will never make people go "LOL WUT" the way TOS does - not even a century from now. Diminishing returns.
