I love this song so much, just, how it's a bad relationship song, put to the theme of Wizard of Oz. I love how people can relate to it, or interpret it differently, it's just an all-around amazing song.
Because his songs are so deeply complex and often have references to relationships I think people just kinda piece it together as only that, which is definitely really cool. Just about all of his songs on every album are him having a conversation with himself. He's a lyrical genius
I've got a little red bow And I bought it for you 'Cause I know you're not fair I don't get it, oh well [bow is referring to a girl and by bought it for you he means got a gold digger cause he cant get a girl that looks good enough any other way because(its in the next 2 lines in the lyrics). he got it for himself which is what he wanted(the other part of himself), a gf. And you color my skin And the colors don't blend 'Cause I'm gonna get you And your little dog too [So here he(the part that he associates with, all he knows and is familiar with) is saying that the other him(the part that desires something that isnt familiar) makes him social awkward and that he is out to get him] There's a yellow brick road That we follow back home [this is "the part of him that wants things" saying " man trust me i know what your looking for"] 'Cause I know you can't wait Your belligerent hate [this is familiar him saying that he knows how the other him works in that he cant wait to take away what he wants(like to get those things the other parts of him wants he cant do what he really wants to do). think of it like conflicting desires. the part that wants the easy familiar stuff and the part of us that want things that arent those lol. keep in mind the word belligerent means warlike. to take without compromise) There's no place like home There's no place like home Like home I've, got a southern belle too And ruby red shoes With a body of straw [this is familiar him wanting to fuck a groupie] Are you sick of it all? [this is the "him that wants things" asking other him if he's sick of the constant back and forth of these conflicting desires] There's a man made of tin With an oil can grin And I'm gonna get you And your little dog too [this is familiar him saying "if you and what you wanted wasn't so stressful then i wouldnt have to drink to stay happy which is what makes me want to go get those groupies] There's a yellow brick road That we follow back home And I know you can't wait Your belligerent hate There's no place like home There's no place like home There's a little white porch And you wanted it so Can you let me go down To the end of the road In the black and the white A Technicolorful life [ this is the "wanting him" working to get something for the other him that reminds that other him of home. its a peace offering asking if they can put an end to the fighting and work together. the fighting is what makes us seem like we have control of ourselves sometimes and not others, its the grey fuzziness. when the fighting stops you can hear both voices for who they are, thats the black and white] Can I stand by your side? [this is familiar him asking "you want to work together?"] We can make it alright Like home 'Cause I'm home There's a little white porch And you wanted it so Can you let me go down To the end of the road In the black and the white A Technicolorful life [this is Then another arrived It's a cowardly lion What I want from this world What I wanna resolve ---------------------------------------------- When I want you to stay So I want you to wait I don't wanna be bold I don't wanna be cold I don't wanna grow old I don't wanna go home [just stick around "wanting me" until i need you cause I'm scared. the difference here is that he isnt blaming the "wanting him" anymore and realizes his fears stop him]

I've got a little red bow
And I bought it for you

And you color my skin
And the colors don't blend
'Cause I'm gonna get you
And your little dog too
[So here he(the part that he associates with, all he knows and is familiar with) is saying that the other him(the part that desires something that isnt familiar) makes him social awkward and that he is out to get him]
There's a yellow brick road
That we follow back home
[this is "the part of him that wants things" saying " man trust me i know what your looking for"]
'Cause I know you can't wait
Your belligerent hate
[this is familiar him saying that he knows how the other him works in that he cant wait to take away what he wants(like to get those things the other parts of him wants he cant do what he really wants to do). think of it like conflicting desires. the part that wants the easy familiar stuff and the part of us that want things that arent those lol. keep in mind the word belligerent means warlike. to take without compromise)
There's no place like home
There's no place like home
Like home
I've, got a southern belle too
And ruby red shoes
With a body of straw [this is familiar him wanting to fuck a groupie]
Are you sick of it all? [this is the "him that wants things" asking other him if he's sick of the constant back and forth of these conflicting desires]

Your belligerent hate
There's no place like home
There's no place like home
There's a little white porch
And you wanted it so
Can you let me go down
To the end of the road
In the black and the white
A Technicolorful life [ this is the "wanting him" working to get something for the other him that reminds that other him of home. its a peace offering asking if they can put an end to the fighting and work together. the fighting is what makes us seem like we have control of ourselves sometimes and not others, its the grey fuzziness. when the fighting stops you can hear both voices for who they are, thats the black and white]
Can I stand by your side? [this is familiar him asking "you want to work together?"]
We can make it alright
Like home
'Cause I'm home
There's a little white porch
And you wanted it so
Can you let me go down
To the end of the road
In the black and the white
A Technicolorful life [this is
Then another arrived
It's a cowardly lion
What I want from this world
What I wanna resolve
----------------------------------------------
When I want you to stay
So I want you to wait
I don't wanna be bold
I don't wanna be cold
I don't wanna grow old
I don't wanna go home
[just stick around "wanting me" until i need you cause I'm scared. the difference here is that he isnt blaming the "wanting him" anymore and realizes his fears stop him]
