I am sooo glad that I found this video! Our '09 RAV4 had some serious California/Arizona sun rot. A local dealership wanted hundreds of dollars to fix and replace. I found the replacement parts on Amazon for less than $60. It took my husband and I less than half an hour to install. It was spooky how easy the whole process was. Works and looks great. Thanks again!
Just did this work myself with this video's help. 2008 Rav4 V6 Sport. A few trouble spots: 1- The front molding pieces on both sides slide under the wing mirror triangle mount things, make sure they are slid in there before press fitting into place because the new ones don't slide well, even with silicone lubricant. 2- You can't actually undo those clips if you think about it, they are under the metal, you HAVE to break them off. 3- Once your piece is all lined up (and the front ones are slid under the wing mirrors), the first thing to do is push the clip into place. I found they had a surprisingly narrow range of where they like to seat and so that needs to line up first. The rear pieces have two clips, the ones in the back are smaller and way less finnicky, they go in easily and have a wider area where they will clip nicely. It's only the longer clips that are a problem. Once clips are in, and the front ones are under the mirrors you can press fit the rest into place and it makes a little clicking sound as you do it. 4- I found the easiest way to take the old nasty ones out is to break the clips with a plastic pry tool, then rip about half of it off. The old molding rips in half so you have an inside piece next to the window, and an outside piece in your hand. Use the pry tool to get a grip on the inner piece next to the window, then just rip the outside piece off entirely, then pull out the inside piece. If you do this you don't need to slide the molding at all which I found didn't work very well.
This is what happened to me on the first one...I saw it separating, so I grabbed it so the whole thing wouldn't fall in the door. And yeah...had to break the clips...there's probably a tool for that, but i don't have it. You: The old molding rips in half so you have an inside piece next to the window, and an outside piece in your hand. Use the pry tool to get a grip on the inner piece next to the window, then just rip the outside piece off entirely, then pull out the inside piece.
Cheers mate! This video saved me $260! This worked for my 2010 rav 4 in Australia. I got the genuine parts ordered in and fitted them myself with your help. Thank you!
Thank you! Super easy with your video! Blue tape was a must and hold onto the broken part as you pull away the molding so it doesn't fall inside. Finished all 4 in minutes.
I came back to say THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! It's pretty straightforward, but honestly, i wouldn't have thought of the tape and marking, which helped out a lot. I'm not even sure if I would have bought the replacement parts since i didn't even know how they were held in place. I bought aftermarket seals for $43 for all 4, and they fit perfectly.
Yes. The aftermarket ones are much more readily available now. Much less than Toyota originals that I used. A lot of people chase trying to find product numbers for parts. These were not particularly easy to find as I recall. But it does help finding aftermarket knowing them.
@DIYHelp videos like this show me that some jobs aren't as hard as I imagine them being. But without videos like this, I wouldn't have ever discovered how quick and easy it could be because I wouldn't have attempted in the first place.
Thank you! I ordered the parts (all four pieces) on Amazon for a bit over 36 bucks. Not a lot of quality pics of them there, but they look right. Wish me luck!
Just put the front two on today. Finally got the time and weather to do it...They fit like a charm! The front two were completely done with so they were the important ones! For "tapping them down", I used a rubber mallet (small) and a small block of aluminum bar stock. Other than that, your advice and video were spot on and a life saver! Thanks again!
Thanks for the instruction. Lucky you for getting those at about $35 each! While it was 4 yrs ago, Toyota gave me a quote of $310 for the 4 pieces. Off to Amazon I go!
Thanks man. I just changed all four of mine on by 2010 RAV4. I'm riding this thing until the wheels fall off and I can't find more wheels. I got my from Amazon: (Munirater 4-piecs Weatherstrip Window Molding Trim Sill Seal Belt Replacement for Toyota RAV4 2009 2010 2011 2012). They fitted like a glove. $42 bucks. i would suggest spending an additional $5-10 bucks on the auto trim tools. They made it much easier without any damage to the car. Also, to make sure they were well seated into the groove I took a small paperback book and a small mallet. Lower all the windows, lay the book on the trim, and give it a few GENTILE taps on any parts that look a little high. the paperback book gives a little so if you're careful you shouldn't damage anything. I only used it in places that pushing wasn't working.
hi! i have a 2011 RAV4 & i noticed water leaking in through the top of trunk door when i went through the car wash. i can’t find any information on if both the trunk door & trunk itself are supposed to have weather strips. the trunk itself is the only one that was a weather strip. does your trunk door have a weather strip at the top? thanks!!
Thank you for sharing this video. I’m replacing mine on a 2006 Rav. The info on the narrow trim tool is very helpful. My initial thought was removing the door card and going at it that way. Your method is much much easier.
Great video . My son and I did all 4 windows on his Rav4 2011 ! bit of a learning curve for us but couldn't of done it without your video!!! Thank you!
The blue tape was a great idea. I doubled down as I nearly scratched the paint wedging the bit to hit the clip. I did buy a set from Amazon, $49 for the whole set (06 RAV 4) they fit just fine.
I also used the piece of wood and a regular hammer to get a proper fit, I found I hear a “click” when pushing with my hands but it snugged down even more when I use the hammer and wood gently pressing it further into place. Great video! Thanks for make it.
Great video!!! I just wasted money buying the cheapest watherstrip for a corolla 2011.... it didn't fit!!!!! I recommend the original parts, they are not cheap but is better
Vehicle left and right is always from you sitting in the drivers seat. So driver would be left. And front would be the driver door and rear the passenger door. FYI. Alternatively left and right for a house is you standing in street looking at house. Left side is left. Right side is right.
Thanks for the video. I ordered window strips from eBay Toyota was two expensive for my 2007 RAV4. The parts were 29.87+tax for all four windows. The brand was Nayson PN 323827305792 They fit perfectly, thanks great video.

@@susanworkman8851 I found these on Ebay..
Literally in the same boat. Looking and looking and I couldn't even easily find part numbers that fit my gen 3 Rav4. This video is the MVP
One of the finest instructional videos I’ve watched

Thanks for documenting what can go wrong! I'll definitely be careful and now I'll have an idea what to do if I run into trouble. :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences; I too have all four doors to redo! 2010 Rav4, from Ft Myers, FL... resold in Colorado!
my windshield ones on the sides are next - so rotted also
Thank you for posting this! I just had to do this job on my wife's RAV4. I don't think I would have attempted it without this video.
I just got an exact fit for my 2010 RAV4 from Amazon. Installed in a few minutes. Was less than 40 dollars and looks/fits great.
Any tips? I'm having trouble getting it off. The pry tool keeps bending
Local Toyota dealer quoted me $760 for all four doors, no joke, thank you a million❤ I know a cynic who doesn't even believe it's possible

Very helpful video. Thanks for sharing!
