I know many of us watch these and feel fortunate to have been around with bands like Kansas. We loved life, had good times, and no worries for the future. The world was limitless and we cared dearly for all our friends and families. Somewhere along the way we started to care more about things and conveniences than we did for the people. We lost something along the way and that won't ever come back. I miss those days A $10 concert ticket to be blown away and entertained with all your friends.
Kansas is the greatest and most talented band ever. There are none better. Their music inspires me and makes me feel good. I would give anything to have been able to see them. I'm 49 years old and they will always be my favorite band until the day I die.
Kerry is indeed one of the best composers EVER, he wrote some of the best music that ever existed, but to say that Steve had an average voice is unbelievable, you really mean that? From the start up until the mid 80s his voice was unbeatable! Unfortunately drug abuse etc shattered it for a while but lately he has gotten it back. All voices change with age, but overall, I have to say that that voice, along with his passionate performances and keyboard skills makes him one of the very best.
WHO IN THE WORLD SAID.....STEVE HAS A AVERAGE VOICE ??? THIS PERSON KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT VOCALS....OR MUSIC FOR THAT MATTER..... A TRUE BIRD BRAIN !!!! Dont listen to him sweet Linnea.....Just another JEALOUS PERSON.
@@joeym6680 you are so right!! Steve had a voice such as no one!!!! I know it's been a while and comments are older. I sure wish I had seen these guys years ago. Glad I can listen now. Too bad not all of the band is the original though. Miss you Steve!!
I love this music since 1977. This is pure magic, straight from heaven, wonderfully written, and beautifully sung and performed. I saw KANSAS in 1978 for the POINT OF KNOW RETURN tour when I was 17. A rare treat I remember all my life.
When we were 15, my friends and I went to see some band (don't remember who). We walked in, and Kansas was playing "Down the Road." Our jaws dropped! I saw them twice after that, and they were always great; they remain one of my favorite bands. Not only did Walsh have a great voice, but Robbie Steinhart was very underappreciated as a harmony vocalist. Some of the odd, angular counter-melodies he throws out to support the lead vocal lines are amazing.
I saw them on this tour. Great band. I even like the dry board mix, as you can hear the raw sounds. Robby never got his due in my opinion. He had a big hand in the Kansas peak years. All the band did, but he came with up with many identifiable melodies that made those great songs what they were. (if that makes sense)
Saw leftoverture concert at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in 1976!We paid $6 for our inside seats. My first concert at age 13 and remains my favorite.Watching the sweat pouring off Steve Walsh as he made his way from keyboard to keyboard never late for a note.Miracles out of Nowhere is magic!
Damn this is what great music and concerts used to be like and saw this concert and was one of the best.. Here's to the 80's and great music and concerts..
I can't even describe how much KANSAS has meant for me. I'm from Sweden, and I hardly know where Kansas is. But I DO know who Kansas ARE, and they have changed my life. None better!!! Thank you, Mr K Livgren!
Whoa, I was there!! This would have been the second time I had seen them, at the same venue. I've forgotten many concerts, but remember this one well, 42 years later. I was seated towards the right side of the stage. So great to see this... again!
I saw Kansas around this time at Summer Jam in Kansas City. It was dark and I clearly recall this song. Steve Walsh was banging on his keyboards and kicking his legs like a crazy many on the ending of this song when the rocked it out. A treasure I will never forget. Even though the ticket price was $12.00 I would not sell my memory of this show for anything under $20,000. I am so glad I attended all my concerts and this one in particular.
I agree! I'm 50 and have seen them 4 times. Three when I was in my 20's and the last time was just last fall. They are still as great as they ever were! Kansas lives!
Masterpiece! The instrumental interplay is fantastic. The vocals are great. Walsh is also a great keyboardist. Rich and Kerry sounding great. What a band!
I';VE READ DOWN AND CLEARLY SOME OF THESE COMMENTERS HAVE NEVER SEEN KANSAS IN THEIR HAY DAY,AND CALLING STEVE WALSH A AVERAGE VOCALIST IS LAUGHABLE AND PROVES MY POINT THESE GUYS WERE GENIUS AND I MEAN EVERYONE OF THEM,ESP WALSH,LIVGREN-EHARDT-ROBBY-DAVE,THAT COVERS IT
I've been waiting for this video. Saw this show in Chicago and was forever changed. Walsh nails part 1 and 2 of the fugue and still does the happy feet. Hand stands on the keys, ect. The video doesn't do the show justice but it's a close second. Thanks for the post.
I totally agree with you. They are the best and I always thought they never got the recognition they deserve. I only wish I could have seen them when I was younger.
My 3rd favorite band after Zepplin and Allman Brothers. Saw them in '79 at Philly Spectrum. Nobody were collectively better musicians than Kansas. NOBODY!
I love you Kansas, They are musical geniuses, unparalleled talent. ❤
Advice noted. People are tuned to music in different ways, I was actually turned on to Kansas by my father, who was a big fan in their heyday. My dad heard of the Proto Kaw project and has asked me to help him look for mateial on both Proto Kaw and any independent work Kerry Livgren has done.
I think that you can understand that it takes longer for younger generations to appreciate the Classics. I also believe you agree with me that children should not be forcing what they like onto us adults.
I saw this line up in the Left Overture your. The problem was it was early in the tour, I really did not realize how big this was , I was mesmerized by the music. St Paul civic center. A round , very Acoustically perfect arena.
@tjrtherocksponge You forgot the Father of ALL Progressive Rock! YES! Incredible band that was so far ahead of everybody else when they first came out, it was amazing!
That's your opinion and I respect it. What I don't respect is those emo fan kids degrading people like Kerry Livgren and Jim Steinman for those bullcrap emo bands like fallout boy and all that other crap.
I prefer the classic version with the original band either on record or live(as with this version),this blows away anything Kansas has done in since 1980 on this tune.
@robseneff Unfortunatly, Robbie left in 2008 because he lost his stuff. He is now 59 years old. He was getting tired :( Im glad he's getting the well deserved rest he needs.
In '77, I paid $6.00(point of no return), and in '79(monolith) I paid $8.00 bucks to see them. And It wasn't like that amount of cash was that hard to come by at that time. Minimum wage was $3.25-$3.50 ph I believe. As far as '60s-'70s rock band talent compare with today or since the early to mid-'80s recording acts, I blame mostly "MTV"--not all of it but the lion's share of it!! Facial looks, wardrobe, and pure vanity--what-ever could stimulate the "eye", became more important than talent!
This is from the Monolith tour, 1979/80. I seen them in November 79 at the Hollywood Sporatorium, Sniffin the Tears opened up for them. This was a good concert but the 1977 show from Point of No Return i thought was better.
I actually saw the 77 show. It was a present to myself for getting out of the navy. Truly one of the best shows I ever saw. The sportatorium was a great place to see concerts.
Check out Frank Zappa's "Tinsletown Rebellion"...pretty much sums up the music scene in LA (much as I hate to admit it) Bands like Kansas a far too evolved for the "masses" to fully grasp the significance of...but to the refined palate...a little slice of heaven!
I'm sorry but DT doesn't hold even the smallest of candles to Kansas. They make a few good songs but nothing even close. Also how they treated Portnoy is shameful.
Recalls "The Gnostic Gospel of Thomas" The Kingdom of God is spread out upon the earth.Yet men see it not. Lift the stone and you will find Me. Cleave the wood and I am there. Kerry Livgren was an Avatar!
They may be that way, but that's a little prejudice of them to only appreciate the here and now. They still should NOT be trying to force what they appreciate onto us adults. Classics do take time to be appreciated by younger generations.
does anyone have the tabs for this song? I have scoured the internet and cannot find them. I love classical style stuff like this, but I don't have musical ear and need tabs to learn.
Most music of this time was released before I was even born, I was born in 1985, but I hear what you're saying, ShaliakhYeshai. I enjoy this music as well as other music from this time. All of this modern music crap is annoying, none of those guys even posses the songwriting skills of Kerry Livgren does. The only songwriter superior to Livgren is Jim Steinman, gotta hand Jim Steinman that one, he's the main element of Meat Loaf's career. Other bands, like Styx and Journey are good too.
I know many of us watch these and feel fortunate to have been around with bands like Kansas. We loved life, had good times, and no worries for the future. A $10 concert ticket to be blown away and entertained with all your friends.
Your spot on! Well said
... Used to be able to buy 8-10 tickets , and choose arrangement of seats .. [ 5 in two rows] to see Kansas in Detroit ! ... those days are over...
What an amazing group of musicians. They don't make bands like this anymore. Leftoverture still stands as one of the best all-time albums.
Kansas is the greatest and most talented band ever. There are none better. Their music inspires me and makes me feel good. I would give anything to have been able to see them. I'm 49 years old and they will always be my favorite band until the day I die.
RIP Robby. A wonderful musician and person.

JOEY M agree 100%!
Average voice? Are you serious? I guess he's never tried singing some of these songs the way Steve does. Laughable.
Agreed
Steve and Robby's voices are so clear, high notes, low notes and harmonizing is absolutely unbeatable.
To me this song has everything that Kansas ever did musically. Absolutely my favorite Kansas song!!!
Easily one of the most underrated vocalists ever. Walsh was incredible in his heyday.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think of the two, Steinhardt had the more beautiful and pleasing voice.
General admission stood on the floor as close to the stage as we could get, smoking dobbies through the whole concert and singing.GREAT TIMES
Rest in Peace Robby Steinhardt, thanks for the music 💙🎶🦋
Unbelievably complex and layered. When growing up I just loved it, now older, I respect it for what it is...MASTERFUL!
I love this music since 1977. This is pure magic, straight from heaven, wonderfully written, and beautifully sung and performed.
I saw KANSAS in 1978 for the POINT OF KNOW RETURN tour when I was 17. A rare treat I remember all my life.
What a blessing!
Will always be my favorite Kansas song, with a lot of close 2nds!

Thank you Kansas Number One progres
Oh, god, it's very good!
I love this song
Steve walsh, the best vocal!
Nothing like working wheat harvest and have Kansas playing on radio.
I love Kansas the state and the band.
A true symphonic masterpiece of Rock!
I wish this whole concert was remastered...
The timing changes in this song are a drummers nightmare. Phil Ehart totally pulled out a diamond on this one.
I agree! I'm 50 and have seen them 4 times. Three when I was in my 20's and the last time was just last fall. They are still as great as they ever were! Kansas lives!
They nail the fugue-like instrumental passage in the middle. That's one part where a band could fall apart live.
Musical perfection.
Masterpiece! The instrumental interplay is fantastic. The vocals are great. Walsh is also a great keyboardist. Rich and Kerry sounding great. What a band!
Dave Hope+Phil Ehart..the pulse and heartbeat of Kansas..
I';VE READ DOWN AND CLEARLY SOME OF THESE COMMENTERS HAVE NEVER SEEN KANSAS IN THEIR HAY DAY,AND CALLING STEVE WALSH A AVERAGE VOCALIST IS LAUGHABLE AND PROVES MY POINT THESE GUYS WERE GENIUS AND I MEAN EVERYONE OF THEM,ESP WALSH,LIVGREN-EHARDT-ROBBY-DAVE,THAT COVERS IT
Rest in Peace, Robby! Kansas is not Kansas without you!!
I'm loving his voice ! So !!!......
Maybe the best and last true Kansas thing ever
I've been waiting for this video. Saw this show in Chicago and was forever changed. Walsh nails part 1 and 2 of the fugue and still does the happy feet. Hand stands on the keys, ect. The video doesn't do the show justice but it's a close second. Thanks for the post.
This is what it's supposed to be. Amazing with no comparison to any other band. ever.
This was right around the time I saw their concert in Lawrence KS
OMFG best song ever!! Who wouldn't want to jam this song?
gotta love that organist
This was my first concert in Salt Lake. It took 2 days for ears to stop ringing. RIP Robby. So damn good was the original 6.
Beautiful.
My first concert was their stop on this tour in Phoenix... What a night!
Great guitar solo by Kerry Livgren in this version.
I totally agree with you. They are the best and I always thought they never got the recognition they deserve. I only wish I could have seen them when I was younger.
Awesome video. these guys were loaded with talent.
Wow, that's the first time that I see a vocal solo of Robbie. He has a great voice!
K-SHE '95 JUST PLAYED IT ON THE CLASSICS SHOW TODAY-
Music just doesn't get better than this.
Steve Walsh...master of counterpoint...
BACH would be proud. God bless his piano teacher!!!! 🧙♀️
My 3rd favorite band after Zepplin and Allman Brothers. Saw them in '79 at Philly Spectrum. Nobody were collectively better musicians than Kansas. NOBODY!
Great to see this video. Was at this show in Houston. It kicked major ass. Ten Years After was the opening act. John Lennon was killed the day before.

this song is a miracle out of nowhere
Timeless
Ready to see this remastered!!
I feel the same bro I always come back to Kansas
The last two minutes of this song are absolute gold. How lucky am I that I found the original Leftoverture record in my basement?
I think that you can understand that it takes longer for younger generations to appreciate the Classics. I also believe you agree with me that children should not be forcing what they like onto us adults.
they were great...one of a kind,,,
I saw the Dallas Show... Incredible... Love the Music! They were so Tight!... just like listening to the album.
it`s just great, music to be listened to!
i saw them live last sunday and they were totally awesome
mini moog
My favorite Kansas song
saw them on this tour great show
God I love this album and band!
Great song,i never hear this on the radio
Amazing!
I saw this line up in the Left Overture your. The problem was it was early in the tour, I really did not realize how big this was , I was mesmerized by the music. St Paul civic center. A round , very Acoustically perfect arena.
Props to you man, they were great then.....Steve and Robbie YES!!
got to see this show,,
I understand.
Thanks for the reply.
Dave.
Robby Steinhardt's parts were written by Kerry Livgren, if I'm correct. Kansas live is a little like a cover band without Robby's voice, though...
@tjrtherocksponge You forgot the Father of ALL Progressive Rock! YES! Incredible band that was so far ahead of everybody else when they first came out, it was amazing!

Send Me An Angel ....yep. Robbie Steinhart had a heart attack. He had to slow down. Incredible talent...voice and violin.
I did an inductee search on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's site, No KANSAS?????
I guess we need another Miracle Out Of Nowhere or something!
This is better than the original IMO, when Livgren goes from organ to heavy guitar riffs exactly when the violin comes in is masterful
I believe that this is from the Audio VisionsTour 1980. I had it on VHS tape.
A Classic song!!
Tru Dat!! Kerry IS the man....
@ShaliakhYeshai I am a singer too, and guys like Walsh, Gramm, and Perry (just to name a few) were in a class by themselves.
I saw them in 1980 and they were great. Only complaint was they did not play long enough.
Brilliant!!!
danke danke danke

This album has just been remastered and re-released this week. Very good live disc 2.
I agree with you.
Brilliant

Steve Walsh is such an amazing singer with incredible range and is an awesome musician but what a spaz on stage!🤣
Its called cocaine
