For the Hispanic culture we do one at the end of January and it’s called “La rosca de tres reyes magos!” And if you get a baby then you make tamales and host a little get together at the beginning of February!
The original tradition for the king cake for Hispanics is whoever gets the baby has to cook tamales because it originates in Mexico but normally people would just cook whatever food I’m actually surprised y’all never at leas heard of it lol!

I live in Louisiana and I’ve had a lot of king cake over the years. I have never had a king cake that is a combination of 4 different flavors. Most cakes sold are smaller than that and are usually a flavor such as lemon, strawberry, apple, raspberry, blueberry, etc. They also sometimes have bavarian cream or cream cheese added to the flavor. The shape and color of the icing and sprinkles on the cake also have meaning.

My father in law orders a king cake every year for us!!! The. one we get the baby doesnt come in the cake anymore because of choking hazards! We also get one that has blueberry and lemon glaze in it!! They are amazing!!!

In French, it’s called la galette de rois, usually it’s just the dough and almond butter. But of course, America likes to make everything sweet. So Louisiana put the sugar and everything on top. In France, instead of a baby they put a bean. And instead of having it for Mardi Gras, the have it for l’épiphanie.

The best king cake is Hi Dough!!!
The king cake has like 6 or 7 maybe 8 “babys” but it’s actually baby jesus! For mexicans its called La Rosca de Reyes! Everyone cuts out there own piece if baby jesus comes out in the piece that you cut, later in February you host a party with everyone that cut the kind cake! We usually make tamales or a carne asada! If you get baby jesus keep it because people believe that it is good luck!! The Rosca does not have frosting or flavors! Its a tradition that my family does that involves Los 3 Reyes Magos!

this is a hispanic tradition normally celebrated in january called “la rosca de los reyes” for “día de los reyes”. the holiday is based off of the story behind the 5 kings who gifted presents to jesus when he was born. i saw that you guys were cutting it wrong 😂 the way you guys are supposed to do it is each person present and participating is supposed to take turns cutting the rosca (cake) and whoever ends up with the plastic baby has to host the next gathering. also sometimes there are multiple babies and not just one.

the french call it a galette de roi and the person that finds the fevre or the "baby" is the king or queen of the party for the night. traditionally the cake comes with crowns and the person that finds it gets to wear the crown. My family owns a french store and restaurant so i know a bit. And mardi gras isn't celebrated in France because it was started after they colonized Louisiana so the tradition isn't a part of french culture.
