It takes a good kit, a lot of microphones, studio space, and a ton of know how to make it sound good- and if you live in an apartment, it's not even an option. But thanks to EZ Drummer 3 and the Titan 70, there's a new way to record great sounding drums in your home studio!

It's a great value. It plays well and it looks good too. A lot of electronic kits are ugly, I actually think this one looks pretty good.

Just got mine yesterday and i love it....Was also surprised to find that my yamaha 3 zone ride works with it...The zones are wrong and you have to fix it but they all work...Cheers!
I knew you were a drummer at heart! When I see you playing drums on the MIDI keyboard, they had a great flow and not the usual mistakes of 4 arms and 3 legs. The drums samples sound awesome with your kit, and I wonder if you could also use them for punk and metal. I felt like most libraries couldn't replace a real acoustic set as the bleeding is part of the agressive sound.
I've actually recorded a couple of punk songs with this setup, and I think it works quite well. They have a bunch of other kits you can buy as an expansion, and I've been using the "Blues" kit. It sounds a lot more raw and wild, which I prefer.
Fantastic Spencer. I got into EZdrummer with version 1 and am on 3 now. I love it. I also still use the Logic drummer too. I don’t have your midi keyboard skills for recording drums, but, I still find Logic drummer and EZdrummer to be brilliant. Thanks for the video.
Wow, what a sound and such a convenience to setup what you want whenever you want. I'm an acoustic drummer fan but this blows my mind.
The technology we've got these days- It's absolutely insane.
Can confirm, all of Toontrack's EZ series products are great values.
(although for drums I still prefer XLN's Addictive Drums for its customizability and mixing options.)
Toontrack's Superior Drummer offers full customization, which is obviously more ideal. That being said, the presets in EZ Drummer 3 are so good that I haven't needed to go under the hood to tweak anything (aside from the volume is individual drums).
That was great! And the song at the end had so much planned syncopation.
What do you think about the SD 1250 compared to the Titan 70? Isn’t it pretty much the same module? And the drum heads for the snare and the floor times are bigger what is your opinion on the side-by-side?

lord have mercy I need some help on hooking this thing up. I have the titan 70. I have hooked it up to my pc and tried to use reaper but its just not it. its SUPER quiet and doesn't sound great. I have an audio interface scarlett solo version 4. I have studio monitors and a sub. I have tried my headphones in the interface and hookup the drums up via 1/4 inputs to the interface and the mono output on the module and its just not doing it for me. how do i hook this thing up to get the best out of it?

EZ Drummer 3 doesn’t have a preset for the Titan 70; did you have to do any tweaking to get it to work properly?

The only issue I've noticed is the semi opened hi-hat will sometimes default to a splash cymbal, but it doesn't happen that often for me. Other than that, it defaults to the correct drums.

Would you describe how did you record your playing on the Titan 70 alongside your backing track music ? I am having pproblems with getting a tight sounds as yours with the Titan 50 and EZdrummer 3.
So the backing track I recorded inside my recording software, Logic Pro X. When I played the drums to it, I simply recorded it in the software aligned with the other tracks.
That being said, if you're looking to play to existing backing tracks, you should be able to import them into whatever software you use, and use a BPM counter to figure out the tempo. Once you got the tempo, set the project tempo in the software to that tempo, and make sure the click aligns with the backing track (you may need to drag the backing track so it lines up with the grid). Once all that is done you should be good to go!
@@songsbyspencer Ok, I already know how to import an audio track and get a tempo track that follows that track. I have not tried recording drums that way. Do you quantize your playing after recording ? Thanks for the help

I absolutely agree. I wish I got into edrums years ago, the samples inside the module sound great on Roland kits too.
There's nothing like playing a nice acoustic kit, but these electronic kits have gotten so good over the past 20 years. They are so much more practical for most situations.
You are insanely multi talented. Thanks for posting this. I have an e drum kit but no room to set it up where I am currently. Could I just connect one pad to the brain do you think to record all the parts separately and assign instruments later ?
You could, but I would actually recommend programming them in this case. If you have to play each individual drum on a separate take, it'll be incredibly difficult and I don't think it'll capture a performance the way it would if you were playing everything at once.

How good is the triggering with the titan 70?
Would you say the feel is pretty accurate?
The triggering is very good. Every now and then there are a few ghost notes that I have to remove but that's the case with pretty much any electronic kit. I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase.
Good video, though I do think acoustic drum recording was misrepresented a bit here - I’ve gotten some great sound out of a cheap used tornado mapex kit with new heads and used entry level drum mics. I did have to spend $ on good cymbals but altogether the cost of those with the shells, heads, and mics is more or less what you spent on the e-kit.
While the acoustic drums requires a lot more fidgeting with mic placement and tunings, the level of satisfaction that arises when you capture something terrific is unbeatable for me.
Not knocking EZ drummer 3 - it’s great software and I’ve used it to put together songs in the middle of the night to later replace with real drums - but to me live acoustic drums will always be king.
I do agree that acoustic drums (when done right) are the absolute best. But as you know, that can be tough. In my experience cheaper acoustic kits can sound pretty good if you change the heads and tune them up, but the cymbals on them are always atrocious. The convenience of electronic kits has me sold for now, at least until I have the space and money to do it for real!
Do you like the 70 or SD1250?
I only have experience with the Titan 70 so I wouldn't be able to tell you which one is better than the other. I can say confidently that the Titan 70 is great though!

Been trying to get my band to do this for recording demos, but our drummer is insistent on only recording live drums.
If you can go to a good studio and do it up right live acoustic drums are always the best option. But yeah, this setup I show in this video is great for demos or if you're recording in a small setting. A lot of drummers have too much pride, but I gotta say recording on an electronic kit gives the authenticity of a real drum performance.
Your drummer is my kinda cat lol. When you know how to tune your stuff and know how you like your kit to sound, it’s tough to trade that in. I’m mostly a guitarist but I would refuse to record without my tube amp in favor of an amp sim. If anything you could just trigger sample their drum parts so it’s still the real thing while getting the polishing that comes with midi
@@trashcandave6744 I understand the sentiment. I started out as a drummer and transitioned to guitar. My dad is a drummer, and he's honestly one of the best drummers I've ever heard, despite the fact that he and I don't get along. He taught me the basics, though I never got into rudiments or anything serious, I can keep time and played in a few bands in my teens. I used to be married to my real gear, but these days it's so much easier to plug direct in and go through a sim, at least for demoing songs, cause I don't need a quiet space, amps or additional mics. What I've been doing is programming the drum ideas, as well as recording scratch guitars, and giving them to the band, so they can get the basics for new songs before we develop them.
@SMAAAASHTV oh yeah i definitely use amp sims and ez drummer as writing tools especially when it's late or im just bouncing around ideas. they are fantastic for that!
They sound great. No more Midi drums from now on.
Technically they're still midi drums, but I feel like the performance you get with this setup feels more authentic. I'll still use the keyboard for convenience at times.
