If you could only use 1 word to describe the Grand Canyon - what would it be?
    Best descriptor wins!

Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. The Grand Canyon makes me feel so small. The colors really blow me away when the sun sets. It really lets you know how dangerous and beautiful this world is.

Thanks CM, glad to have you along on this adventure. The Grand Canyon is a great reminder of how small we really are in this world. It definitely provides some of the most unique sunsets of anywhere

Utterly beautiful, Layne. I've never been at the bottom of the Canyon, though I have been eyeing a backpacking trip for some time, and it always amazes me how it looks like being in a sea of canyon. My one word would be "singular".

The bottom of the Canyon is a place that every backpacker should get to visit at least once. It is definitely an all-enveloping feeling like being in a sea. I think men like John Wesley Powell & Teddy Roosevelt would agree with your word!

    Beautastic.
Haha, Saumya-Sapien. 😆 Fantastic trip and I'm sure having knowledge companions was a big boon. Eight days is a long time!

Beautastic, that's a good one Seth! I really enjoyed learning from those guys that is for sure. Eight days is a long time, but also shockingly short . . .

Nice work! I've been to the Grand Canyon a few times but haven't had a chance to backpack it yet. Great job on the cinematography. It never captures the full beauty, but I think you came close. Good luck on your adventures!

Thanks Juan, it sure is tough to capture the beauty and scale of the Grand Canyon. Hope you get a chance to backpack it! Happy trails

    Grandificent!
Thanks for sharing! Looks like and amazing trip. It made me laugh when you said "spoiler alert, it wasn't flat". Don't you just hate when you expect a flatter day and it doesn't happen. 😅 Keep up the great work!

Grandificent! New words have to be made to describe the Canyon. Fortunately the scenery takes away from the mind pretty quickly whether the hike was supposed to be flat or not!

Wow. Just wow. You've outdone yourself on this one, Layne. Some of those shots would make great postcards! When you mentioned other canyons (Slate, etc.), are these canyons within the "Grand Canyon"? Thanks so much for the work you put in to make this!

You’re right Pop Pop, there are a ton of postcard opportunities in the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon escorts the Colorado River but there are many side canyons from other drainages that make up the whole area

Nice video, much appreciated! I'm considering a Hermit-Boucher loop next November - going down Hermit, overnight somewhere in the Boucher use area, then hiking up Boucher back to the Hermit TH. Considering the severity of the ascent of Boucher, where would you make that overnight camp? I don't mind a dry camp and was considering either that knoll at the 9-minute mark beyond Travertine or at the Boucher Creek campsites to tank up on water. Also, how far below the Tonto/Boucher trail intersection are the Boucher Creek campsites? Thanks!

Man I wouldn't want to do all that up and down Hermit & Boucher for just an overnighter. But you may very well be stronger than me. We did a Boucher-Hermit loop as a 4-day trip, this video may help with your questions and planning: ua-cam.com/video/YAKxfiUU-PY/v-deo.html

Thanks, I'll check it out. I just sometimes prefer to go very light, which calls for long days or going fast or at times, both!

More power to ya! That video shows several campsites along the route, it may help find the right one for you
