The good ol' zebco 33 was one of my first reels that I ever used and they are still fun to mess around with! They typically come spooled with 10lb mono and they do cast well. The one thing that I learned with these reels is that if I accidentally did cast too far I found out that if you push the thumb release you can stop the line from going out any further. Great video Randy! :)
Now I'm binge watching to catch up...:) Got my first baitcaster last year and wish I hadn't waited so long to get one. I quickly learned how to pick out a bird's nest on it, so my confidence got a real boost. I've been planning to add a spincaster to my modest collection that my wife can use. Then we'll relax and fish, rather than fuss with reels.
When I was a little (city) boy, my country raised Daddy took me fishing a couple times. It was pretty good, until it was time to manage the line, in the reels! That's probably where i began to lose interest and stopped going with Dad. Getting up at 0300 didn't really help a lazy kid to try harder, either. I'm ready to understand, now though. Thanks for the explanation! My Confidence is Building!
As time goes on with this channel you may want to keep in mind that probably most ate going to be fishing from shore. Just a suggestion some may have a small rowboat but don't leave out the bank fisherman. Great idea on teaching channel I subscribed cause I am always learning.
Spincast reels would probably be alright for flipping and pitching, if you could find one that wasn't junk. Some of the old Zebcos were pretty good, but now those are trash too.
I kind of wish people would ditch the whole spincaster is what you want to get the beginner or for kids, while i don't disagree with part of that sentiment..... Many people, like myself just prefer to use a spincaster, it's just a solid option to use..in other words it's for any level of fisherman... For the most part.. not just for beginners.
I wish they'd make spincast in tournament ready sizes, ratios, weight, and etc. I learned on them and with the problems I have with my hands they would not be so hard to deal with..
You have the wrong kind of fishing line on the heavyweight reel. The kind of fishing line you're supposed to put on there is braided fishing line that's why you would have a hard time using plastic, you're supposed to put braided line on heavyweight fishing reel and to correct your flaw if you know how to use a heavyweight fishing reel it's not so hard when you get to hang of it.
🙂✅ RDHull invented the first reel , he worked for Zero hour bomb 💣 company. A Tulsa Oklahoma oil based company. The people company you fish with Zebco.

I got a Johnson Century 100 when I was a kid and used it a lot of my life, and I loved it

Still didn't explain what the baitcast reel is used for vs. the spinning reel. What application would one choose one over the other?
In my personal experience, if you know how to set your baitcaster correctly you won’t have any backlash.
Always used a spinning reel. Going to research some bait casters!

Only open your finger!!!! I’ve seen a few people let go of the entire pole on their first cast.
