The driver belt, funnily enough, is the only good belt in there :P But seeing as what I'm going to use it for I could fancy a new one out of something for extra "wow" :P I also have a second one that I've gotten to 99% working order. Works perfectly except there's still a little issue with the right channel recording at a very low volume. Playback is fine though, any ideas? My hunch is the op-amp that drives the record head of that channel has gone bad as I do have working VU meters during recording.
interesting! maybe my machines were just stored badly.. not sure what the volume issue could be though.. perhaps just a potmeter that needs cleaning/replacement?
Lol, I never got a notification of your replies. Ah well better late than never! I actually got a second one and managed to make some loops and compositions with them (videos are on my channel). I have taken both machines apart to use their components for DIY projects though, as both started having more issues and I have a much nicer AKAI machine now for tape stuff :)

nice machine! is the driver-belt still okay. they tend not to age good.. (mine were both broken, with the 'molten' belt all over the electronics)
