Congrats on getting three correct. This is my first year following the Booker Prize. I’m disappointed not to see Martyr!, Praiseworthy, or The Road to the Country on the list. I was able to grab or hold all but two from the library.
I loved Martyr! and I agree with you about Praiseworthy and The Road to the Country. I am still going to read them though. They sound too good to pass up.
I love Booker season. I read Wandering Stars a couple of months ago, but I feel like I should read There There to get the full context. There are a couple it looks like won't be available here until September so I guess that helps me pace myself. Happy to see an Aussie author on the list.
It’s so annoying that we have to wait! I only have 7 to left read from the list and I can’t get 2 of them until September. This is going to be the most chill Booker season ever for me 😂🤣😂
Happy Booker season for you too, have a good shopping and congrats for your predictions. I’m also happy James made it and also My Friends. Have a nice reading Gretchen!
You are really getting me excited about the whole festival of book prizes - wow! I love your thoughtful & careful enthusiasm - quite contagious. Thank you for another great video.
I do not have time to read the whole longlist so I'm counting on you to help me read just the good ones! Will be skipping Strange Eventful History! I've read James and am wanting to read the Safehouse because of the review from Gunpowder and Enlightenment because of your enthusiasm. Wild Houses just sounds like fun too.
I'm excited about the list as well. I've read three: James (excellent), Wandering Stars (good, though I preferred There There), and Orbital (disappointing). Your critique of the Messud novel was very convincing. I watched a bit of a reading from it, so I think I'll skip it unless it makes the shortlist. There are many novels I'm really interested in. I already have Headshot here and want to read My Friends, The Safekeep, and maybe others as well. Looking forward to your reviews.
I agree with you about There, There being the better the book. I personally think it should have been longlisted the year it came out but oh well. I’m really happy with the list overall and hope we have some great reads ahead of us. Happy reading!
Yay you got 3!! lol I did not do any predictions, but was surprised I had read some on the list! Just finished Orbital last night and loved it. Also read Enlightenment, James and Wandering Stars and all excellent! Bought Stonewall Devotion from Blackwell's in April and will read next. Creation Lake, Headshot, My Friends and Playground on hold at library:) Not sure about the last 4, especially Strange Eventful History, so might wait to see if those make the short list since I wasn't drawn to them and there are so many good books to read, including Praiseworthy!
Yay! You’re in great shape for the Booker. Also, I am reading Praiseworthy no matter what. It sounds so good and I am still wondering how it didn’t make the cut.
This basically almost ream time video is SO FUN! When I saw Orbital, I knew that was your pick. 3! 3! Yay! I’ve reserved the Rachel Kushner. It’s on order at the library.

You should! Even if you just follow the BookTubers that cover it, it’s always fun.

I think that Creation Lake is the one I am the most excited about. It sounds great.
I am going to look for "My Friends" and "Wild Houses."
They both sound really good. Fingers crossed!
