Having lived in Alaska for 13 yrs and traveled tip to tail side to side with the tour company I co-owned… I knew you’d love this state and appreciate everything about it. Keep this in the back of your mind…. You’d love living there even more than visiting.
I lived at Gambell, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska for three years and then traveled around Northwestern Alaska by air visiting native villages. Traveled thee highway from Canada into Fairbanks. Thin trained it to Anchorage. Several Alaska Ferry rides to and from Seattle were most enjoyable. That was in a ten year span of time. My travels only covered a small portion of Alaska. I liked living there.
Nikki, please DO give us the history because a lot of us can't afford to travel, and live vicariously through your channel. lol. I loved this video so much, I CANNOT believe how beautiful Alaska is. Just incredible.
The history. Looking at the high blue sky above Nikki thought "what am I doing here? What keeps me next to this guy?.." Alaska, Russians, vodka, drunk red faces, thought Nikki... Not a very tempting offer... "But I've been to every state in the USA... And Alaska somehow sailed away from me...". "And then there's this Russian who constantly writes all sorts of nonsense...". Nikki looked up into the deep sky again, looking for an answer there.. The Eskimos once populated Alaska, coming to these parts from neighboring Chukotka, from Asia. Along with them were the ancestors of the Indians, who came from the Yenisei River. They were looking for freedom, land and a new life... The first Europeans in these places, thousands of years later, were the Russians. But Russia was a huge and poorly paved country. And the Russian Emperor had a choice: Central Asia with access to British India or Alaska... There weren't enough resources to support everything at the same time. In the end, it was decided to sell Alaska to distant America for 6 million US dollars. Inexpensive. The deal was made. "There's a Russian spirit there, it smells of Russia..." They say that even centuries later, "the smell of Russians" remains in Alaska. And what do Russians smell like? Like vodka? No, Russians smell like that 14-story city-house. Like sausage and fried potatoes at the same time, the smell of which comes from different windows. ...That's the answer the deep sky gave Nikki. The beautiful American looked down at the damp earth... "It's decided," she thought. "Alaska, then, Alaska."

Aloha Nikki. I took my family on a sightseeing and fishing trip to Alaska in 1999. Our journey took us from Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali National Park, Denali Hwy, Tangle Lakes, Valdez, Whittier, Portage Lakes, and Kenai Peninsula (Seward, Soldotna, Sterling, Homer, etc). Back in 1999, the only way to get to Whittier was by train and ferry. We took a ferry from Valdez, Prince William Sound, where a marker marks where the Exxon Valdex went aground to create an environment nightmare, to Whittier. We drove our vehicle onto a flatbed railroad car where we remained in our vehicle as the train eent through a long tunnel (I thought there was a second but much shorter tunnel) where we drove off the railroad car near Portage Glacier. Only the train was allowed thru the tunnel. I recalled there were plans where vehicles would be allowed thru the tunnel. Riding thru the semi-darken tunnel where we discovered my wife was claustrophobic. Talkeetna was a cool town. We were there doing a Moose Dropping Festival. I am enjoying your adventures. I had planned to get a similar RV 4x4 as yours from a company called Storyteller, but the COVID-19 ended such thoughts. Be safe. Be a blessing. Be a beacon of hope. Aloha and blessings, Ronald

A Cybertruck parked by the grocery store? I'm very curious on the performance when the temp drops.
Great video!! I've seen other videos of this city but yours is by far the best! I love how you like to interact with locals and show us the real deal!! Thank you, safe travels.
THANK YOU!!! What a compliment 🥰❤️🙏🏼
I was.so excited to see a longer video! Made my Friday. Great video. Thanks Nikki.
Hi, Nikki, I'm in Wasilla, Alaska and born and raised here most of my life. I'm 54 years old. I've been to Whittier a couple of times and on a Portage Glacier Tour too....I hope you get to take that cruise if you haven't already. I am so 'jelly' of your exploring of Whittier cause we didn't get to go to the historical sites. What a wonderful exciting video! I've been waiting for it since you teased us....lol
I went this place in Alaska a few yrs ago it was extremely neat experience.

Loved this episode. One of my favorite because the town was so fascinating. Definitely felt like a different country.
