Avi has been a story teller singer-songwriter starting at age 14. He used to take his guitar down to the local coffee shop and play. His college major was in choral studies and opera. Pre Pentatonix his plan was to become a choral director and continue playing his own music on nights and weekends. (or alternately an opera singer because of the rarity of bass voices). It seems fairly standard in the United States, where there is relatively no government support for the arts, that the songwriters/composers start really young and are often self taught on instruments. Avi plays guitar, banjitar, mandolin, ukulele, piano, bass and harmonica. Little was published during the Covid quarantine. "Song for the Thankful" is the latest although one of his band members shared a video of them getting an upright piano up and out of a barn loft so something is due out shortly.
Most of us tend to zone out to Avi too...and yes, all the vocals are him, and the whistling and guitar. The general theme of this album is his battle with depression; describing it and then trying to fight and finding a positive.
He's such a powerful musician and gets better all the time. He did a concert in the park in Nashville a few weeks ago with his band. Man! It was so good. It's amazing to watch a musician who just gets better and better.
His depth of texture and narrative just lend so much strength to his songs. I absolutely love his honesty and emotional openness that grabs at my emotions and transports me to an alternative reality. I really love this song!!!
Subbed for more Avi! Such a great reaction! I love how “grown up” his music is…it isn’t fluff or geared towards teens but captures real life experiences that his audience can relate to. His song writing alone is worthy of huge praise, and when you consider his generational voice and arranging ability, it’s just mind blowing that he isn’t more widely known (solo-wise). Can’t wait to hear more reactions from you!
I have loved everything Avi has done as a solo artist. More than any other member of PTX, Avi's voice has always touched me, since the first time hearing them years ago. It's not that I don't love them all (I do) , but Avi's voice just grabbed me, pulled me in, and never let go. There is something about this song that gets me every time. I tear up at not only the words, but his gorgeous voice. Thank you for reacting to his music. I found you some time ago thanks to your reaction to PTX version of Hallelujah, and subscribed immediately. Love all of your reactions.
When I first heard Change on the Rise, shortly followed by Chains they really hit me deep and I can honestly say it was a turning point in my life and really helped me begin trying to reconcile my depression and while its still an ongoing process that was the fulcrum point
Avi had his "breakdown" while with Pentatonix and left during that time. He has been quite open about his mental health struggles. highly sensitive man. I think when he did his livestream in April, you could hear the healing that has taken place by the way his voice sounded. Thankfully that video is posted on youtube and when I need peace, I often run to that almost hour of music he made with Noah and Kaleb that night. Here it is if you have not listend to it ua-cam.com/video/E3jJSIcJ09o/v-deo.html
I really enjoy Avi's solo music that he does now. His voice really suits more the folk style. He was never really allowed to shine when he was with Pentatonix. And their music does not really suit his style. He is now doing the music he loves & it shows. I really like "Song For The Thankful".
Everything you said was spot on. He is taking a different Musica path from ptx, so it definitely makes sense to divide him out. Some of his new fans since ptx wouldn't know to look for him there. I'm so glad you noticed his message of healing. Even the beauty of his voice seems to communicate that on such a deep level. Two things that are often true about his fans: many of them have similar struggles emotionally and many of them are creative. He affects us with his encouragement, and many of us restart our own creative endeavors because we are so inspired by him. He is a force for good.
He had to find and gather all of his stones to take and lay them down in the water. Since he is Jewish, I would call it a type of Hebrew Mikvah of his troubles...washing them away, though i have no idea if he thought that. In his song, Quarter Past Four, every one thought the lights in the room were symbolic of something. When asked, Avi said, I have no idea, my producer did all of that. :) When I hear his voice, I can breath.
Dont you love it when you find this great depth of meaning in a video, or the way a painting is colored, and the artist says, “i used red cause i ran out of blue”. ;)
Love how you fall so quickly under the atmosphere of Avi. I am finding his videos, live streams, as well as the music are whole body experiences. I am also learning I am a reactor to reactors reacting to my music crushes (yes, I am in love with all my artists and utterly faithful to them.)
I couldn't be at the premiere, but I'm very happy to see another reaction from Avi! It is a beautiful song. The music, melodies, arrangements, everything is beautiful! But without a doubt his lyrics are really incredible! He's a wonderful songwriter! Recommendations for the next one: Quarter Past Four, The Summit, Get Down, Sweet Adeline, etc 😅
You appear to have the same reaction I did upon hearing this mastery of sound. My son showed me PTX years ago, and I always appreciated the talent, but loved Avi’s voice. When I found this a few months ago, he became my religion
I think we can all appreciate his talents to create such wonderful music, it is amazing that he is so gifted that he writes, arranges and preforms everything. Each of his songs is like a perfectly cut gemstone, unique and captivating.
It has been said that the painting of the waterfall above his bed was done by his mother. It depicts the waterfall at the end of the song. The waterfall is in Tennessee somewhere, Avi lives in large "cabin" in the woods outside of Nashville. Many of his videos (including Change on the Rise) are shot there.
Love your reaction. Take a look at Avi's original It Knows Me. Its very understandable rated. The video is bizarre. Very 60s-ish. But the lyrics are so deep and moving.
I love everything Avi does. Everything. If you want a shock..I do mean shock, check out Mitch's solo work under Messer. Angels pray I think is the name of the most watched one. I may be mistaken..I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong lol. Much ❤️ from upstate NY.
I don't want to send you into meltdown mode but Home Free just dropped their video for Brothers in Arms from their last album and......amazing doesn't even scratch the surface.
Avi has unpacked all his struggles with depression etc into his first 5 or more first songs....But they aren't depressing they are cathartic in as much as they help heal and give one hope that "it will be alright and I'll get by" He did 'Chains' and you can feel his pain but again it gives hope. If you haven't seen Quarter Past 4 can I suggest you do so as it was the first time he opened up regards his struggle. here is a link to it. ua-cam.com/video/l_t1VOe0IhE/v-deo.html I really enjoy your reactions Sending love from Australia
I think you'll really love Avi's _It Knows Me._ It is another excellent, very reflective piece. There is more than one version on his site, here is the one I favor, with pop-art graphics: ua-cam.com/video/cUen11Q2r1c/v-deo.html Also, his most recent song, _First Place I Go,_ has Avi performing with a band. It of course is also excellent.
Here's something that will give you a little insight into Avi. It's a trailer that was done by Fantasy Records for the "I'll Get By" EP last year. Spoiler alert - it includes snippets of a song you do need to react to - "It Knows Me". Maybe that'll inspire you to react to it, too. ua-cam.com/video/6chW5J8qW74/v-deo.html
Not sure if you are still reacting or if you will see this but you MUST listen to Avi's latest album 2022's hooter Jennings produced Floating on a Dream! Has a new album coming 2023.
Recommendations for Avi's music to react to are tough, because they're all extraordinary. One of my favorites, however, is "Chains", of which there are a few versions. This one from 2020 is from a live mini concert his label, Fantasy Records, put together on UA-cam Space LA. I actually like the studio version from the EP best for its drama of production, but it's audio only. Do listen to it though. ua-cam.com/video/_Ki0WeSRxvE/v-deo.html
Thank you so much Sandra! Yeah, I wish I didn’t have to cover it either. UA-cam automatically blocked this video, so covering it was needed to keep it live. The song is so beautiful and the video is amazing!

I LOVE Avi's folk music! His voice is MAJESTIC!! I never get tired of hearing Avi talk and sing! 😍💖

Congrata, man.
In case you didn't catch it, the painting above his bed at the beginning is of the waterfall at the end.
So many of Avi's solo songs feel like a warm friendly hug. 😊
I really enjoy Avi's solo music that he does now. His voice really suits more the folk style. He was never really allowed to shine when he was with Pentatonix. And their music does not really suit his style. He is now doing the music he loves & it shows. I really like "Song For The Thankful".
I LOVE his solo music too.
Love this song. And the video ❤️ we all have rocks on our chests and all try to get by. Let us be kind to each other and not add to the burden.
I really really LOVE Avi's solo music.....I hardly remember him from Pentatonix...... He's just so good by himself.
Everything you said was spot on. He is taking a different Musica path from ptx, so it definitely makes sense to divide him out. Some of his new fans since ptx wouldn't know to look for him there.

If I said this once I've said it a hondred times, Avi's music hits different, harder, realer, and deeper. He is I can never get enough of him.
He had to find and gather all of his stones to take and lay them down in the water.
Since he is Jewish, I would call it a type of Hebrew Mikvah of his troubles...washing them away, though

I just love Avi's music - his lyrics, his voice, everything really. Thanks so much for your reaction.

Getting "I'll get By" tattooed on my cllarbone today... For me to song remind me, better days are coming, and... i'll get by until then
Love this!! Avi would be honored ❤Enjoy your tattoo session!! I'm itching to get a new one soon as well 🤘🏻
This is like a warm blanket wrapped around you!

But without a doubt his lyrics are really incredible! He's a wonderful songwriter! Recommendations for the next one: Quarter Past Four, The Summit, Get Down, Sweet Adeline, etc 😅
I agree, Eva. "Get Down" is one of my favorites, with its gradual layering of sound . It's very under-appreciated.
@@charlottevan_8 Get Down is a song that has a lot of strength and is very powerful, I really love that song!
Aberdeen is also brilliant and another part to the story that his album seems to tell
You appear to have the same reaction I did upon hearing this mastery of sound. My son showed me PTX years ago, and I always appreciated the talent, but loved Avi’s voice. When I found this a few months ago, he became my religion
It’s all the things you mention for me and how he layers his voice and instruments. He truly is brilliant and under appreciated.
Full Moon is mesmerizing, I think you would really enjoy it but you can't go wrong with anything of Avi's.
Second that. There is no music vodeo persay, but its not meant to be watched. Just listened to.
Soundscape, i think avi calls it.

This song hits me like a truck every time 🥺
Same here. It’s so powerful and beautiful. I’ve had it on repeat all day, just thinking about my mom and grandma.
I love the super clear tone of this. It’s upbeat but more of a “press onward toward the light” feeling. Thanks for your reaction.
Nothing beats Avi on vinyl. Everything he's released, I have.
Love your reaction. Take a look at Avi's original It Knows Me. Its very understandable rated. The video is bizarre. Very 60s-ish. But the lyrics are so deep and moving.
Avi dropped a new song on Nov. 12 - you need to check it out! “First place I go” absolutely awesome!!
Thanks for doing the song I've had on repeat for all of 2021. So good.
Ive been listening over and over too! So amazing! Btw i love your username! I have a collection of gnomes!
@@MetalGuyReacts That's awesome about the gnomes. 😍
Pleeease check out his song “Full Moon”, if you like his harmonizing you’ll love that one
Check out his website. You can get his newest album "I'll Get By" on CD or vinyl. 7 incredible songs..including this one.

You gotta do his new album, Floating on a Dream . Ridiculous how incredible he is
Love the shirt btw 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Please listen to Full Moon if you are prepared to dive into his harmonies, they are transcendant. You may need tissues, it sure gets to me.
If this song hits you, maybe do a reaction on "Change on the Rise"...
Please check out Avi's new song First Place I Go. Its amazing! :)
There is a new Weeknd/Post Malone song out on Friday! I hope you are reacting to it!

Who is your band??
I don’t like that you have coverup the videos now. They didn’t do it before.. First time watching your reviews. I really like your show..
Thank you so much Sandra! Yeah, I wish I didn’t have to cover it either. UA-cam automatically blocked this video, so covering it was needed to keep it live. The song is so beautiful and the video is amazing!
