    If it's a sweet, it doesn't go off. In New Zealand, we have Best-Before and Use-By. If it's Best-Before, a.k .a. things like Cup Ramen and processed sweets like Kit Kats, you can have way after without a problem. Use-by, a.k.a things sold fresh, must be used before the date.

    • @Chris-fb8jg
      @Chris-fb8jg 5 місяців тому

      Even "use by" you can still use a couple days after all depends on the the product and what it looks like smell like. It's just a guide the dates but you also use your senses

    I bought yesterday in Ameyoko in the morning a cute shopping bag with a cat printed in it for 1100 yen as a souvenir gift for my mother... I never thought that hours later John would be at Ameyoko... If I had visited Ameyoko in the afternoon, I would have seen him...

    About jewellery can you do a video about the pearls, Japanese pearls are famous and expensive. Could you give us the best addresses of factories where they are sold, where not to pay a fortune and have the best quality? Or a few shops?

    Been to Ameyokocho more times than I can remember.
    The takoyaki place is the best value takoyaki in Japan at only ¥50 per ball and there is help yourself mayonnaise, sauce, katsuobushi and aonori to dress them exactly as you want. They make them to order so they are always piping hot and you have to be careful to let them cool a bit or you will burn your mouth. You don’t need any Japanese to order them - just hold up your finger to make 4, 6 or 8.
    The famous sweet shop is called “Ni ki no okashi” which means Two trees cakes. It has a big range of savoury cooking products as well as confectionary.

    21:59 That's Nakata Shoten. The normie branch. The actual real store is in one of the off streets. Mr Nakata is a historian who happens to own this militaria store. In the actual, secret, store you can get original and accurate reproduction uniforms and gear of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy from the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras. History enthousiasts need to shop at Nakata Shoten.

    I do the same thing in the bay area’s Japanese market, always check the “origin “ of the country of the products, don’t assume is from Japan. Too risky to purchase anything consumables or skincare from Japan’s “big neighbor”

    Ameyoko Ueno has gotten so cheap and tacky recently. My wife and I were there a few weeks ago and were shocked to see Chinese food stalls selling cooked pig feet, intestines, etc., all spread out and uncovered. But we still go there mainly for our favorite black sauce ramen 上野 麺屋武蔵 武骨相傳.

      I would only purchase Nike in Japan via a reputable Nike store or sneaker freaker space like Atmos. Only cheap store that does bargains for real Nike is Don Quijote. Those Ueno market stores look OK but they didn't give real or quality vibes. ABC Mart looked authentic but just cheap. There is a sports store to the right of the huge vending machine that is themed Marvel or was. Opposite Ueno station. They sell OK Nike stuff grabbed a bargain Nike backpack.

      Probably ONLY HERE, but they come from neighboring countries and do exist although harder to find than the real thing but you get what you pay for in Japan. If it’s too cheap, there’s a reason.

    Lots of cheap price but also poor quality made in China , even in grocery stores some dry sea food like shrimp, fish , squid are all from China , fruits as well from China and Thailand . So if you want to buy things Made in Japan to give your friend as gift you need to ask . I stay at Ueno so I often come here for food , lots of streets next to this market are full of restaurants.

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  6 місяців тому

      You get what you pay for. Taste is probably the same … the origin, not sure how important it is, pumpkin seeds are 98% from China worldwide for example. So much in Japanese supermarkets is as well when I check labels.

      |In Canada we have the issue of 'packaged in Canada with imported ingredients' and then they don't tell you where they are from. Even "made in Canada" only means over 50% of the cost was here (ie the packaging labour...the actual item, who knows where its from). Countries should do a better job enforcing clear labeling. I'm sure most of us want to buy local for most things.@@onlyinjapanGO

    It’s rude to ask for discounts in Japan. Japan does not have a discount/bargain culture of Thailand, Vietnam.. It is especially rude to ask a question where the answer is to be “no”. So please please do not ask for discounts. Do not destroy culture. Local culture is one of the reasons we travel. 😩😩😩😩
