    Would you prefer dandelions or lavender as your meal? 🧐

      Considering I even have lavender tattooed on my arm, I’m going to go with the lavender. Have you ever had lavender infused lemonade?! It’s heavenly!

    Wowowow I think your tortoises have a much cooler home than most humans! How special and beautiful. I love the layout and how you thought to surround the borders with plants they enjoy. So adorable!

      Texas has been eating away at the sedum so much lately! I am glad we planted a lot around the edge! They've been soaking up the sun more than me lately!

    Great job Shelby! I’m sure you had to consider the finan-SHELL impact to such an enclosure. I’m also glad to see you included a SHELL-ter for them. Can’t wait to SHELL-ebrate your next video!

      @@ShelbyOnSafari They each have their own personalities, one is a food beggar, one is a climber and one likes to burrow.

    Omg. I would love to be able to have tortoises! How fun! All the different plants and landscaping looks great.
    I am so jealous of all your different critters! My apartment is maxed out on animal space with the kitties hahaha.

    I don't know how shade is cast in this garden, but there needs to be permanent shady spots within an enclosure, else the tortoise can overheat and suffer. They cannot sweat or dissipate heat themselves, they need completely shady spots as essentially as they do basking areas. While this one has some shrubs and half a pot, on a very hot day this may not cool them sufficiently? I worry people trying to replicate this may not realise how important it is.

      Thanks for watching and for your important comment. Indeed, we were mindful of this and utilised the trees and the fence that were already present to provide shady areas. Our garden doesn’t get a lot of direct sun and we are mindful of the weather should it be too hot, however you raise the important point of shade so thanks!

    Oh they are so adorable! Question: What do they need in the winter months to survive outdoors?

    • @ShelbyOnSafari
      @ShelbyOnSafari  3 роки тому +1

      Great question Claudine! Typically they'll burrow and hibernate!

  • @XxDeadParrotxX
    @XxDeadParrotxX 3 роки тому +1

    How come they like digging? Is it a foraging thing or do they like to burrow? Shelby, I need answers!

      Great question, Abbie 💚 you're on the right track for sure... it's also to help with them regulating their own temperature!

    What did you do for enclosure drainage for when it rains?

    Looks great! How do you microchip a tortoise?

    • @ShelbyOnSafari
      @ShelbyOnSafari  3 роки тому +1

      Great question Tiff! We've taken them to the vets to get it inserted, like they do for cats and dogs! Just a quick injection, the microchip itself is about the same size of a grain of rice.

      @@ShelbyOnSafari That is cool. I guess they go under the shell somewhere in the skin. Thanks
