- divers reported that the mast is'nt broken and the hull is by what they saw intact. -the yacht didn't have a lifting- keel. A crewmember of a sistership reports that these yachts have lifting centerbords. The stability of the yacht is done by loads in a stubby fixed keel and at the bottom of the hull. The centerbord optimises the performance of the yacht when sailing upwind. It's interesting to know if the designers and the yard recommended the centerbord down when anchoring in stormy conditions. The fact remains that an old traditional gaffer- SIR ROBERT BADEN POWEL- anchoring nearby - reports heavy gusts and a perhaps dragging anchor which caused the german skipper to use the engine to hold the position, but otherwise didn't have problems with stability.
The CCTV footage shows the lights going out, but the anchor light on top is still on. Watching it, you can't see the yacht tilting at all. How could it sink because of the wind?
For me as NA rather than considering the irresponsability for not to look for harbour waters while the storm approach presumably knowing by the weather forestcast, the combination of the vessel heading (presumably transversal to the incoming waves or paralel to the shoreline, anchored not sailing) with the main enviromental actions on the hull expose to the waves (load condition) and the gusting wind forces on the mast that at the moment of the mast collapse generate a spring trigered like effect that over come the yacht transversal stability capability inducing a counter moment around the vessel (Roll Resonance) leading to the yacht capsized and flooded after that through the open hatch , very sad event. Rgds
Welcome to blame it on the weather 101, where accident theorists can learn about such things as: luck happens when preperation meets opportunity, and opportunity does not knock, it presents itself when you beat down the door. Now take a seat gullable ones.

The captain of the Bayesian made several significant errors
Has nobody spoken to the crew who was rescued? This is 9 minutes of supposition.

It wasn't the wind but a lightning strike
@@FinnDinghy110 1 No lightning strike on video.
2 A lightning strike cannot capsize a yacht.
You can see it tilting (heeling)
It seems like a pure retractable keel issue... as number 1 factor for instability...
Thank you for your report.

Bad weather at 4am

It is Yacht, not yatch.
Man proposes. God disposes.
Dont bother...
It wasn't the wind but a lightning strike
Gods aim is getting better
