      @@stevenwest000 This is a speculation as I was not the pilot, but I doubt it was weather related. If there was a strong thunderstorm right at the field then yes it could be a strong downdraft affecting the rate of climb. Also, I have flown in that aircraft and it has plenty of power to spare, especially at the end of a flight when fuel load is low.

  • @deanproctor2690

    1:49 with loss of steering, I can relate. Definitely not a pilot, but spend a lot of time on 18 and 22 wheels. When 16 of your 18 tires are bolted to on to only go straight and you only have 2 to steer, you quickly learn to slow the hell down on snow and ice.

    Aer Lingus isn't "struggling to climb".
    You have to be very careful low to the ground that you don't pull into a tailstrike. It's responsible to keep it steady and rotate slowly.

    • @rtbrtb_dutchy4183
      @rtbrtb_dutchy4183 2 місяці тому +11

      You are correct that he wasn’t struggling to climb, but not because of a tailstrike. He was well away from the runway. He was simply building up speed.

    • @SenorCrazylegs
      @SenorCrazylegs 2 місяці тому +2

      @@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 That simply isn't true, I'm afraid.
      If that were the case, you'd have to "build up speed" every time you went around. You don't do that higher up. You just rotate at 3deg per second.
      The reason you don't rotate at normal rate close to the deck is because of tailstrike risk. He just bounced, he is close to the ground. This is SOP.

    • @rtbrtb_dutchy4183
      @rtbrtb_dutchy4183 2 місяці тому

      @@SenorCrazylegs he was either building up airspeed or he forgot to climb. He was nowhere near a tailstrike. This was a poorly executed go around. This was not SOP.

    • @nuclearrabbit1
      @nuclearrabbit1 2 місяці тому

      You can hear the Auto-Throttles spooling up trying to keep the airspeed up, and a second later, they dump the TOGA and react to an obvious windshear warning. The slow climb-out is crazy considering they had TOGA selected, hence why I say that had some pretty serious shear. Leaving the gear down is obviously one indicator that this was a windshear event, as well.

    The Aer Lingus pilot I think was just accelerating while in ground effect to increase his airspeed. A good call as the plane was already at a lower airspeed when he touches down. Unlike a typical go around.

    Don’t think the A320 was struggling to climb at all - a single push of the TOGA buttons on a Boeing, or pushing into TOGA gate and the once positive climb is established pulling back out of the gate towards the CLB detent gives a more controllable rate of climb - especially useful with a low level-off altitude after a GA.

    0:33 That was a perfect recovery from a bounce. Level off, increase speed, follow SRS/flight director. The leveling off is intentional to recover energy from the thrust:idle flare.
