Saw the film yesterday, it was a mixed bag. There are many details and a great emphasis on characters that I like. But the movie was butchered by the studio and you can easily tell, by the choppy editing. The last act was such a mess, with many characters dropping off the movie in a matter of seconds. They should have kept the old version, it would probably still be muddled, but at least less chaotic in the rythm and natural in the progression of the story. Spoilers: Best action beat was when the Predator escapes the laboratory without any weapons. That sequence uses tension, suspense and horror in a very straightforward/old-school way. If the movie would lean more towards this direction, or having the lone Predator being hunted by humans without his weapons and on a mission. Often less is more and it's better to tell a simple story than a convoluted mistery film. But I still respect them for trying to do something new with the Predator franchise, still miles better and more creative than all the other blockbuster sequel crap like Jurassic World, Star Wars etc who often just copy/paste the same story beats from their originals and call it a day.
Shane Black as an excellent movie maker cause I went to the theater in the pavvillian in Durban with my dad, so excited to watch the new predator movie cause it came out on that day and at first my dad let his hopes down and thought it was a remake of predator 1 but to both our surprise it was a completely cool and all-over the place and epic but a little too gory but the actual movie was the best movie I ever loved and I hope Shane Black all the best!!!!😊
the movie is supposed to be gory as hell, as Shane himself mentioned that on one of his Twitter feeds where he says something like "PG-13 IS FOR PUSSIES". and not to mention, "Predator 2" had suffered over 20 cuts to bring it down to an R-rating, as it was originally rated NC-17
I agree with his stance on trailers. Some of the best trailers I've seen have been average movies and the best movies I've seen I never saw a trailer for. I don't understand when people get excited about a trailer dropping like it's the actual movie. I avoid watching them
I believe the first version would be different. If he had not made cuts or reshoots. I would watch 2 hours of predator. No problem. But not that movie there ... Shane could have explored their mythology better. Not to mention that he did not give prominence to the predator nor to dogs, as it is always only the humans who are the heroes. Aside from Shane promising us that we would see the predator in the light of day. The fugitive predator was incredible and beautiful. His mobility was too much. But the only scene I enjoyed was the flight from the lab.
God almighty I wanted to love this movie. It’s just impossible. Complete piece of garbage. The first movie had a seriousness to it. This movie was more about joking around and impossible things happening. Just a mess. At any time they could write a complete movie just to explain the musket at the end of Predator 2. Instead they seem to be turning it into the next iron man with a super hero suit. Glad I didn’t go to the theater to see this garbage.
