For those concerned about the spalling issue look at the plate in the carrier 1:44 it looks to be wrapped in some material. The Ukrainians are fighting for their very existence and are amazingly innovative as well as courageous!
Amazing how 'metal plate are targets only' and 'spalling will kill you' until it's in glorious Ukraine then it's all the sudden 'lololol its wrapped totally as good as lvl IV ceramic slava ukraine' you people are fake as hell.
They make the plate carriers with kevlar because steel plates are what 90% of them use. This stops sprawling. They also have some sort of cover on the metal
It appears at 1:44 the plate inserted in the carrier has some material wrapped around the plate as the texture doesn'tlook like steel. You are spot on about spalling...
A suggestion for more mobile troops. A composite armor with a porcelain tile front, fiberglass layers crossweaved at 45 degrees, and a light metal backer. This will reduce weight significantly when compared to metal alone. Weight reduction at the cost of plate longevity. Depending on the thickness of the improvised plate, you may have the ability to stop standard 7.62x39 as well as green tip 5.56 steel core ammunition. Worth looking into.
you might be surprised but tanks use a lot of composite armor not solid plates also it tends to be heavier than needed and hard to work with car springs on the other hand are almost perfect easy to work with very hard but still flexible standard armor plates weigh 8 kg as opposed to 10 kg scrap version so they are pretty good
do not forget to wrap the steel in dozen layers of some synthetic fabric (polyester, nylon, aramid, etc) to catch the fragmentation however.

That might stop a round, but the spawling fragmentation will be very bad, maybe even more deadly if it strikes the neck and head and lower extremities
Spalling protection is easy to do as well. Some layers of Rubber and some adesive or super glue wors.

Well its better than nothing at all

I'd want a metal lip to deflect spall for sure.

How thick are we talking? And is this feasible if they want front, side and back protection?
How Can someone make a body armour plate at home
Necessity is the mother of invention.
They should make the armour oblique like the m-1 tank so the round is deflected off.
Your better off making the FAB-300
Where does my tax money go???????????
Lot of tank knocked out. Why do not use metal from them? high quality

Heavy metal is heavy metal block bullet or slow it down
Maybe use a steel out of some of this personal carriers destroyed also Word well.
