Yeah, although I'm a France lover, I always had to roll my eyes at "France is the country of love, not a rapist!". Yeah, maybe not a rapist but don't jump back ten steps and ignore that he is most certainly not innocent. Thing is, I let him off a bit because its obviously overplayed for comedy and Hima has definitely developed his character a little more since the early days and done him a bit more justice. I always have to bear in mind that this fandom is pretty young (the fans I mean, not the duration).
I honestly think a lot of the miss conception comes from Hima probably having a really dark sense of humor and put some of these scenes in the earlier strips of hetalia but has since moved away from that type of humor.

I prefer them as the bad friends trio because of this. Bad friends doesn’t implie it’s sexual in nature so Prussia actually fits into the name rather than being unfairly grouped in with his friends. France and Spain are perverts ok but Prussia is not, but he is a bit of a warmonger (though all the nations who have been empires have been a warmonger at some point) being a nation built and made for war and fighting and he was dissolved due militarism in Prussian culture being too heavy and this influencing Germany. “Prussia isn’t a country/state with a army Prussia is a army with a country/state” Also on Prussia (not) being a pervert There’s also a manga strip with Prussia (then Teutonic Knights) about vows of celibacy (its short and doesn’t do much but it’s a large point as to why Prussia is actually one of the least perverted characters in the show despite popular opinion)
One point I'm gonna criticize you on is that a lot of the old comics got retconned, particularly the comic where Chibitalia got groped. Hima really cleaned up France's character, especially in the newer comics. He's matured more as a writer and it shows. I'm not saying that we should completely disregard all the old comics, but these comics in particular we should honestly not consider canonically sound by this point based on the key differences between the characters then and now and how Hima has changed several aspects of them.
I knew Prussia was pretty well innocent. Hima has drawn him wearing a garter which means (well should mean it doesnt anymore today) its a sign of virginity. In one scene Hima drew while Prussia was still Teutonic Knights, having a discussion with like a military leader?? And this dude said that they must live out their lives as virgins and Gilbert agreed. I think Gil is just a boy being a boy (i grew up with 2 brothers) so the crotch cloth scene and the scene where he groped Hungary and the one where he stole Austria's underwear were just him being a typical boy
That's what I always try to tell people about the crotch cloth scene! It was just boys messing around and Prussia STOPPED and LOOKED AWAY when he realized Hungary was a girl and in a compromising state. Plus people forget he gave her something to cover herself with afterwards.

First off, assuming Italy is five at this point, Spain is only five years older than him.... I don't think I've known a 10 year old who didn't want to marry their best friend, don't forget at this time they were all communicating and Spain is very friendly. Now also realize the fact he said 'when you grow up' like she said, and all the while Romano is only two or three years younger than Spain placing him at 7-8, for any of those speculations. In what way is this actually creepy or perverted? Not to mention the time line, a lot of that happened in times where it was still normal to marry your cousin, so even if it was wrong morals still weren't in the best place. Most of the actions together implied platonic actions, considering ages. If you think about it and how you were with friends at that age it wouldn't be that strange, we must not put all that aside when making these accusations.
About the whole pedophilia thing, here’s my opinion: countries age differently than humans, their physical appearance usually depends on the size of their country territory, wealth, and power, so a country could have the physical appearance of a 9 year old, but they could actually be in their 20’s or 30’a (just and example) But a newborn country is always shown as a little kid, no matter how much power and wealth they have. Independence may also play a role in aging for younger nations, while others seem to not age much at all like Latvia and Liechtenstein. *America* for example grew taller than England do to his fast development as a nation. Now *Italy* didn’t physically age very much most likely due to him spending most of his time painting rather than conquering. *South Italys* physical age possibly remains slow due to having been under Spain's rule. So basically, to us it might look like pedophilia because they look like little kids, but to them they see it as a weak and small country who can’t defend themselves that they can conquer and control to make themselves more powerful. Honestly, I think these moments are a product of Himaruya’s past sense of humor (Notice how sexual harassment and even being fixated on young children is the punchline of jokes in MANY anime). None of these kind of moments would appear in a relatively recent Hetalia strip. Somewhere along the line, Hima likely realized these jokers were a bit too much, especially since these are country personifications. Nowadays, France is just a flirt and Spain hasn’t been shown interacting with children in unusual ways. So it seems unfair to use old material to make a statement about who these characters are now. Edit: Adding on to this, it’s a shame to see these arguably outdated things having a catalyst (this video and your popularity) to influence fandom perception of these characters once again. France especially has come a long way and his interactions with various humans have given us insight into the immortality of the nations and the idea of the tragic historical figures they became attached to being reborn into a better life. He deserves better than to be permanently stained by a few bad jokes.

Which isn’t a good thing either, especially since she brought up a comic and a picture that show him going after CHILDREN. Again, none of these are things that would happen in recent strips so it feels very unfair to hold these outdated comic strips against the characters. And the amount of people in the comments accepting France and Spain as sexual predators thanks to this video is a very sad thing to see.

And the fact that so many people in these comments are quickly accepting France and Spain as sexual predators is really sad, like you said, and it really shows how popular members of fandoms can easily sway the opinions of fans.
I strongly agree that fans are too easily swayed by what popular members of fandoms say. That's why I'm so critical of Hetafacts. While she is clearly capable of putting out good content and I find her knowledge of Eastern European nations very respectable, she's NOT a second Himaruya. Yet so many of her fans treat her like she is and accept whatever she says as fact. Videos like this prove she should not be your only source for Hetalia facts. While the strips she brought up were made by Himaruya and were relevant at some point, she completely skipped out on mentioning that the strips seem to be very outdated. And while I don't automatically consider something not relevant because of age, when is the last time we've seen France or Spain pull things as extreme as what she shows in the video? There's a reason she only has old sources to prove her points. Himaruya's writing has changed and the characters changed with it. This is why I inwardly groan every time I see her take on a controversial Hetalia fandom issue. The issue isn't what she has to say about those controversial topics, the issue is that her fans are gonna take whatever she says as fact.

Frankly, if you need to dredge up those old comics again, some context would really be nice. Like others have mentioned before me, the strips you used were either deleted or drawn roughly a decade ago-and the few anime scenes you mentioned were also based on old content. When was the Olympics strip created, for example? 2007! These kind of moments haven't appeared anywhere in the webcomic for years, and that should really be enough to cement the fact that Himaruya has changed. It's not just France and Spain, either. A lot of the old characterizations in Hetalia were borderline questionable, but that's all in the past. When was the last time Hungary was portrayed as an obsessed fujoshi? Could you still imagine Austria tying Chibitalia to a tree today? (Yes, that really happened. Go search up the Chibitalia strips on Hetarchive.) And for those people asking if they're still allowed to like their favorite characters-yes. The answer is yes. The reason you're even asking this question in the first place is because you saw sides to their characterization that you liked, sides that didn't involve sexual assault or pedophilia or whatever those shitty old comics implied. Listen up, as a fellow Hetalian who loves to dig deep in the webcomics, I post them on insta as hetaliawebcomics_2 (self-promo lol), I can say that the main strip she uses as evidence is deleted. It is titled Botecelli’s Erotic Paintings and you are able to find it on Hetarchives.net under deleted strips. I Love hetafacts and I think it’s important not to overlook other things that she mentions. France is indeed a pervert. It’s part of his character. In Hima’s early days, shock humor was still considered funny, so this would’ve been funny. I think he deleted it because even then, he realized it crossed the line. He hasn’t posted similar humor in a long time and France’s character has come a long way.

One point I'm gonna criticize you on is that a lot of the old comics got retconned, particularly the comic where Chibitalia got groped. Hima really cleaned up France's character, especially in the newer comics. He's matured more as a writer and it shows. I'm not saying that we should completely disregard all the old comics, but these comics in particular we should honestly not consider canonically sound by this point based on the key differences between the characters then and now and how Hima has changed several aspects of them.
I knew Prussia was pretty well innocent. Hima has drawn him wearing a garter which means (well should mean it doesnt anymore today) its a sign of virginity. In one scene Hima drew while Prussia was still Teutonic Knights, having a discussion with like a military leader?? And this dude said that they must live out their lives as virgins and Gilbert agreed. I think Gil is just a boy being a boy (i grew up with 2 brothers) so the crotch cloth scene and the scene where he groped Hungary and the one where he stole Austria's underwear were just him being a typical boy

First off, assuming Italy is five at this point, Spain is only five years older than him.... I don't think I've known a 10 year old who didn't want to marry their best friend, don't forget at this time they were all communicating and Spain is very friendly. Now also realize the fact he said 'when you grow up' like she said, and all the while Romano is only two or three years younger than Spain placing him at 7-8, for any of those speculations. In what way is this actually creepy or perverted? Not to mention the time line, a lot of that happened in times where it was still normal to marry your cousin, so even if it was wrong morals still weren't in the best place. Most of the actions together implied platonic actions, considering ages. If you think about it and how you were with friends at that age it wouldn't be that strange, we must not put all that aside when making these accusations.
About the whole pedophilia thing, here’s my opinion:
countries age differently than humans, their physical appearance usually depends on the size of their country territory, wealth, and power, so a country could have the physical appearance of a 9 year old, but they could actually be in their 20’s or 30’a (just and example)
But a newborn country is always shown as a little kid, no matter how much power and wealth they have. Independence may also play a role in aging for younger nations, while others seem to not age much at all like Latvia and Liechtenstein.
*America* for example grew taller than England do to his fast development as a nation.
Now *Italy* didn’t physically age very much most likely due to him spending most of his time painting rather than conquering. *South Italys* physical age possibly remains slow due to having been under Spain's rule.
So basically, to us it might look like pedophilia because they look like little kids, but to them they see it as a weak and small country who can’t defend themselves that they can conquer and control to make themselves more powerful.

I don't really understand why France has been represented as a sexual harasser in Hetalia :( Sure, our country has always been very open to sexual stuff but almost everything (whether in litterature or history) has always been consensual. Honestly, I think these moments are a product of Himaruya’s past sense of humor (Notice how sexual harassment and even being fixated on young children is the punchline of jokes in MANY anime).
None of these kind of moments would appear in a relatively recent Hetalia strip. Somewhere along the line, Hima likely realized these jokers were a bit too much, especially since these are country personifications. Nowadays, France is just a flirt and Spain hasn’t been shown interacting with children in unusual ways. So it seems unfair to use old material to make a statement about who these characters are now.
Edit: Adding on to this, it’s a shame to see these arguably outdated things having a catalyst (this video and your popularity) to influence fandom perception of these characters once again. France especially has come a long way and his interactions with various humans have given us insight into the immortality of the nations and the idea of the tragic historical figures they became attached to being reborn into a better life. He deserves better than to be permanently stained by a few bad jokes.
I especially find it funny how Hetafacts even disproves the fandom's idea of France being a rapist in one of her earlier videos and even brings up his "Love is something you shouldn't force on others" quote, yet here she decided to make him a rapist again based on some outdated strips. What's with the sudden change of heart? And like you said, it's especially sad how the fandom is finally starting to see France as more than a pervert, but now here comes a popular Hetalia UA-camr calling him a rapist once again and tainting the fandom's perception of his character. For shame.
PopplioPrincess Being fair, she didn’t actually call him a rapist. But she basically described him as being a sexual predator without directly saying so. Which isn’t a good thing either, especially since she brought up a comic and a picture that show him going after CHILDREN.
Again, none of these are things that would happen in recent strips so it feels very unfair to hold these outdated comic strips against the characters. And the amount of people in the comments accepting France and Spain as sexual predators thanks to this video is a very sad thing to see.

Even if she didn't call him a rapist, calling France a sexual predator is a bit of a stretch since we don't really see him taking advantage of the other characters (the closest that comes to mind is when he tried to molest England while he was sick). Regardless, a lot of this "evidence" is very outdated and France hasn't really aced like a "sexual predator" for about a decade now. And the fact that so many people in these comments are quickly accepting France and Spain as sexual predators is really sad, like you said, and it really shows how popular members of fandoms can easily sway the opinions of fans.
I strongly agree that fans are too easily swayed by what popular members of fandoms say. That's why I'm so critical of Hetafacts. While she is clearly capable of putting out good content and I find her knowledge of Eastern European nations very respectable, she's NOT a second Himaruya. Yet so many of her fans treat her like she is and accept whatever she says as fact.
Videos like this prove she should not be your only source for Hetalia facts. While the strips she brought up were made by Himaruya and were relevant at some point, she completely skipped out on mentioning that the strips seem to be very outdated. And while I don't automatically consider something not relevant because of age, when is the last time we've seen France or Spain pull things as extreme as what she shows in the video? There's a reason she only has old sources to prove her points. Himaruya's writing has changed and the characters changed with it.
This is why I inwardly groan every time I see her take on a controversial Hetalia fandom issue. The issue isn't what she has to say about those controversial topics, the issue is that her fans are gonna take whatever she says as fact.

Frankly, if you need to dredge up those old comics again, some context would really be nice.
Like others have mentioned before me, the strips you used were either deleted or drawn roughly a decade ago-and the few anime scenes you mentioned were also based on old content. When was the Olympics strip created, for example? 2007! These kind of moments haven't appeared anywhere in the webcomic for years, and that should really be enough to cement the fact that Himaruya has changed.
It's not just France and Spain, either. A lot of the old characterizations in Hetalia were borderline questionable, but that's all in the past. When was the last time Hungary was portrayed as an obsessed fujoshi? Could you still imagine Austria tying Chibitalia to a tree today? (Yes, that really happened. Go search up the Chibitalia strips on Hetarchive.)
And for those people asking if they're still allowed to like their favorite characters-yes. The answer is yes. The reason you're even asking this question in the first place is because you saw sides to their characterization that you liked, sides that didn't involve sexual assault or pedophilia or whatever those shitty old comics implied. And if you've gone for so long without knowing what Hetafacts talked about in this video, then those strips clearly aren't relevant anymore.

Listen up, as a fellow Hetalian who loves to dig deep in the webcomics, I post them on insta as hetaliawebcomics_2 (self-promo lol), I can say that the main strip she uses as evidence is deleted. It is titled Botecelli’s Erotic Paintings and you are able to find it on Hetarchives.net under deleted strips. I Love hetafacts and I think it’s important not to overlook other things that she mentions. France is indeed a pervert. It’s part of his character. In Hima’s early days, shock humor was still considered funny, so this would’ve been funny. I think he deleted it because even then, he realized it crossed the line. He hasn’t posted similar humor in a long time and France’s character has come a long way.

Nobody is overlooking these things. What we're saying is a lot of the "evidence" she uses here is mostly from old strips from back when Himaruya had a darker, more perverted sense of humor. He deleted a lot of the old strips since he matured as a writer and possibly realized he went too far with a lot of his humor. And the characters themselves have evolved since the old strips too. France is still a pervert, absolutely nobody is denying that. But he is far less likely to partake in any "black comedy rape" now than 10 years ago.
