The one thing that I MUST change in My Nikon Z cameras is,, in the Z6III,,, "f7 RELEASE BUTTON TO USE DIAL" ""TURN IT ON"" then (WHEN YOU TOUCH ANY '"FN"BUTTON,, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HOLD IT DOWN TILL YOU ARE DONE) push the "FN" button, change the settings then touch any button to finish the change!!!!!!!!!!! (Z8 is f6,,, just look for RELEASE BUTTON) Tell all of Your Nikon friends :) :) :)

Congratulations on your first wedding with the Z6 lll, I always enjoy your approach, although I don't do the same type of sessions it is always interesting to see what others do to lower work or time needed to sort things out. I moved from the US 24 year where incomes are a lot lower and billing for service is a lot lower resulting in switching models a lot less. The choice of a Z6 lll was arrived at before the specs were released. I assumed the price point of the Zf and its capabilities pointed a Z6 replacement being a very capable camera. The Z6 lll however exceeds my predictions, where it boughs more from the Z8/9 more than being a feature update of the Z6 ll. I got the very first Z6 that entered my adopted country and in the early days of the Z6 the AF was a real problem until about the 3rd software update and kept better until my D850 became the backup camera. I assume 2 missed focus per 500 frames but I am not shooting sports or fast small birds. After becoming comfortable with it, I never really needed anything more. That little camera has been to 15 countries, shot events, studio performances regularly such that shooing only single frame, it has 546,000 shots, actor portfolios, casting short videos, street, a few weddings that I could not avoid, ballet, drama, and opera performances and rehearsals regardless of light levels the camera nails it within the 2/ 500 ratio and I like the low light performance more than the D850 and not having to use a sound deadening box for performances.
Every feature described about the Z6 lll points to that as my next addition and probably sell the beloved but backup duty D850 to make up some of the cost difference. The neighboring countries really mark it up but and the US forbids Nikon from shipping parts or cameras here so there are no parts or warranty, and flying to and back to my native California will add $2000-3000 to the price of the camera. The one advantage over other regions of the world I have easy access to opulent palaces, 17th century mansions or very well equipped studios for $10-12.hour. There are about 200 studios rented by the hour and many with scenes for every historic period
I use the same settings as you do for the back buttons on my Z5. I did not know, that you could change from manual to auto ISO using the front wheel though. Thanks for telling that. I always went into the settings to change it...
That was already possible with my Nikon D600 from 2012. Most function button items have front and back dials to control things for example with white balance presets it's the same operation.
Press and hold the ISO button, then use the wheel to change it.
Do you find for Nikon under exposing by a lil bit or over exposing? For photos and video?
What do you think about Z6III main camera and Z6II second camera for weddings? I am thinking of something like a Z6III with a zoom and the Z6II with a fixed 85mm or 105mm.
That works for sure. You’ll probably want to upgrade the Z6ii to a iii or a zf after shooting them side by side though for weddings
have you tried the electronic/silent shutter yet taylor? Very curious how its like and its worth it to use compared to the mechanical
I got the ZF (another one) for 1,6k (tax excluded) in Spain. The Z6III is at 2.6k (tax excluded). The Z6III is still not a great purchase tbh due to price in EU

@@TaylorJacksonPhoto In Romania its even worse... Z6 iii body alone is 3230$ and Z8 body is 4300$. Also z6iii with 24-120 mm f4 costs 4300$ (as much as z8 body)...prices are insane...

Can i save 6k videos to v60 card instead of cf express card?? Or can it only be saved in cf express card?? I am confused ...as i do not want to invest in cf express card i am just an enthusiast ...so can i save 6 k video in v60 card?

I use the 50 1.2 myself and there's no way the image quality of that 35 1.4 is going to come close to the 50mm.
@@nickbouwman6560 Love my 50 1.2 I'd say it's 70% of the time on my camera , but I would love for it to be downsized a bit.
Canon / Sony 's lenses are much smaller.
Hope Gen 2 50 1.2 would be smaller or a good 50 1.4 following the 35 1.4.
@@nickbouwman6560 A Z 50mm f1.4 might have more character than the Z50mm f1.2 Sure it will not be as sharp and clinical.
Hi Taylor! Do you find a noticeable improvement in overall character and IQ when using the mark iii as opposed to the Z6ii? I never vibed with the files I was getting from my Z6ii, but these photos you took are stunning!
I think for most 24 megas are enough for most , I'm tired of whiners , no no not you you never , it's the others and I say if it's not enough buy a different model , btw way how did you Taylor score a wife of her caliber lol😅
PS I with someone would make a old school md style motodrive grip for ZF , can't me on companies it's easy

People love to talk about the custom boxes, I NEVER use this - instead I use 3D focus - if you understand how it works … it’s much better than anything else. And only Nikon has this , and because canon and Sony doesn’t have it some people don’t understand how it works… but basically instead of using the touch screen to point at your subject - there’s a point in the viewfinder - you point at your subject with it and half press the shutter - then camera track the subject

I love both 3D tracking and Custom Boxes for focus Mode. I think 3D tracking will hit something that is not my intended subject more than the custom box will. I notice this during events with people dancing in low light the Box was better. I do use the 3D tracking mode the most for everything else. I will be doing a semi-pro baseball game soon so I will compare those modes there.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Is there a way to quickly toggle subject detection on and off and programming it to a button? I had that on the A7 IV and used it a ton. The only way I can see to do it is to fully open up the AF area mode settings. Thanks in advance!
I was hoping for some info on how it is for low light focusing, mainly the dance floor. My Z6ii hesitates in this situation and I end up missing a lot of shots. Have you found the Z6iii to be improved for this situation?
We the people require to know if this has banding or has zero banding like the z8. From the people.
Haha I don’t typically shoot mechanical shutters on silent mode ever, so I’m probably not the person that will answer this first.

@@PearceWeddingPhotography The Z6iii has that tunable shutter setting for Banding. I have not shot with it yet in a banding situation. Enjoying the Z6iii so far
Trying to decide between this and the Zf. I'm strictly an amateur shooter and will most take photos of kiddos running around and occasional wildlife. Zf seems perfect for me features-wise (and price point) but I am concerned about ergonomics for birding/wildlife outings.
Any bird lenses you’re probably going to want the z6iii grip. Unless you’re usually tripoded (or even monopod) then maybe zf can work.
Unless you’re doing street-photography with a 50 1.2 and shooting 1-handed from your hip, Zf ergonomics is a non-issue. Get the Smallrig grip, and support the lens with your left-hand when birding. I often use my 70-200 2.8, old 300 4 or 200-500 5.6 on the Zf without issues.
Not sure why peeps would think ergonomics really matter when your left hand is doing the most of the work in this genre, tbh. I have a Z9 and Z6 II as well, as well as a D850 and D500, and probably enjoy the Zf most if I’m in the mood for having fun. Go to your favourite camera-store, and try it out. If you like it, buy it, otherwise grab the Z6iii.
It is great fun shooting with the Zf, at least imho, even with larger lenses.
@@bsc001 Usually you would have a monopod or tripod if you are birding with the F200-500mm f5.6 lens. I have handheld it but not long at all. Now the Z100-400mm, Z400 f4.5 and Z180-600mm are much more hand holdable than the F200-500mm f5.6 lens. I hope Nikon will produce a few more muffin and pancake lens for the ZF. Hopefully some with a functional Aperture ring. I feel that Z35 mm f1.4 is step in the right direction. Maybe they will release a SE edition for the ZF.
@@williambuford6136 Yeah, I often drag a monopod along, if I go for a quick walk, otherwise my benro tripod.
But for quick and easy shots, it’s ok to shoot it handheld. But any serious birder will have a good tripod and gimble head anyway.
It's ridiculous that Nikon still won't enable dual recording in video. It might be a dealbreaker for wedding videography!
It is a huge reason that people don’t choose them. Probably the number 1 reason at this point

How good is it in high ISO ? I love my Z9 and thinking about selling my A7siii to switch completely to Nikon … been using the Sony for a while but I prefer the color of the Nikon, that being said ISO 12800 on the Sony is way cleaner than Z9 at similar ISO (ISO6400 is clean on the Z9 but after that it gets pretty noisy)

About the same as the Z9. I'm really torn comparing my A7CII images to the Z6III. For stills the closest subject bias gives Nikon an advantage, but for animals and people, the Sony hits a bit more directly on the eyes. Way better than the II's though. I hope that helps.
The Nikkor 40mm f2 images are so good looking, but the new 35mm 1.4 should be an interesting comparison with extra DOF.

@@Jgheiler the 1.4 has shallower DoF for better subject separation. The quality of the bokeh also looks a little less refined (than the 1.8) which has its charm.
How many Cameras do you have? And why you wife shoot with canon 🤨 🙂 its just a joke but it is funny caus my wife also shoots with canon and I with nikon 😀
She shot nikon because I did until mirrorless. Then I switched to canon for the r6 for a bit and she stayed canon after that because it’s very nice time. Right now for weddings I have a z6iii with mostly f glass, a9iii and A7IV

Can I ask if the DR effects your processing? I've heard blacks are too dark and whites are blown out. Please share your perspective.
I’ve had no issues. I also don’t go +100 on shadows so I’m not worried about it being slightly worse than a z6ii sensor in extreme scenarios that don’t happen in real life
What is your take on transferring sigma art lenses to the z6 iii? They’re been working well for me on my d850 but thinking of taking the plunge to mirrorless and keen to have some of the eye focus features!
I’m sure they’ll work great. I never used them a whole lot for dslr, but all f mount glass seems to work even better on z series for focus accuracy
I've had my Z6iii lock up and require battery removal to get it working properly again twice so far. Once with stills (screen went completely black and never came back) and once with video (AF zone got stuck).
Hmm weird. Did it lock up again with different cards or same cards? And the z6iii batteries or older ones?
There will probably be an early firmware bug fix in the near future if they’ve identified any problems
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto i was playing with one at the Nikon day at our local store this morning, and it locked up twice during video. I had to pull the battery out.
I’ve heard of various problems with the newer Nikon’s. I wanted a Zf but heard about sensor issues with it…bought a Fuji instead.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto different cards, ones that have worked perfectly in my Z6ii bodies for ages. Not shooting high bitrate content either! All formatted before using.
The batteries I was using are all the latest 'c' variant (EN-EL15C).
Likely a software bug, but I might end up taking advantage of my return window if I don't hear good news from NPS soon!
It's really unfortunate, because the 3D AF is awesome for stills and the video AF was killing it during a really dark reception dance last night!

How does the Z6iii feel as a daily carry camera? Is it small enough that it could be easy to carry for a day out with the family. Debating return my x100vi and just get the Z6iii for family photos and capable for jobs too!
I think a zf might be better fit for every day. Z6iii is a touch big in my opinion
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto The Z6iii feels better in that hand than the ZF. I'm used to using the old D500/D850/Z8 size cameras. The Z6(X) size is good for everyday. Both the ZF and Z6iii are bigger than x100vi?
Hi, please tell me, if there is M raw,S raw,L raw in the camera? In Nikon z9, you couldn't change the resolution of the picture in raw

Is the mechanical shutter quiet enough for wedding ceremonies? The Z6Ii shutter is fairly quiet but not always usable for photography in the theater. Thanks!
It’s fine for wedding ceremonies, but yah a quiet theatre I would making sure the silent mode works well

I assume the Z6iii does not have the autofocus face detection modes with manual lenses like the Zf? One thing they added to the Z9 that I love is autofucus area cycling. I assigned it to my Video record button. You can unclick the ones you don't use so every time I click the video record button it advances to the next area on my list. Super fast way to change autofocus area. I hope they add it to the Z6iii soon.

Smaller for sure. Basically the same as the earlier Z6 models BUT a larger, more comfortable grip
Any tips on getting focus on two faces during couple shots, while still shooting wide open aperture?
I just make sure they’re roughly the same plane of focus and they’re usually okay. If you’re shooting something like a 135 f1.8 you might have to be back a bit further than you normally would
Is it weird that the thing I am envious of is the Auto ISO being removed from being right beside the lowest ISO setting in the controls?
Haha I don’t know why anyone does it that way. I feel like there is probably a way to disable it though
CF express Type B 4.0 cards are exceptionally reliable and don't get critically hot unless you shoot 6k 60p Raw for 2 hours(no card will hold such long periods anyway). I use 4k 60p or 30p mostly on my Z6iii.
how does the z6iii eye tracking compare to the zf?

Is it better than a Sony a7IV? apart from FPS, until finally a bride moves, no one shoots 11 meters. It is a little more expensive without Sony. I don't know whether to choose Nikon or Sony, I don't own any mirrorless and I don't want to use DSLR lenses either. Thank you.

Better grip/ergonomics (subjective), much faster sensor read out, better video capabilities, better viewfinder, better EVF, better stabilization, internal raw video, precapture, high resolution sensor shift, focus stacking
A7iv:
Higher resolution, sensor cover, more dynamic range, more mature lens ecosystem, better button customization.
Both have great af although in my short testing Z6iii is better in extreme low light and with continuous tracking. Color science is subjective, both are nice.

@@williambuford6136 you can pretty much assign any button to be whatever you want on A7iv. Nikons options are more limited. There’s also the extra control wheel.

Is the white balance of the z7 ii compared to the z6 iii similar? because I wanted to buy one but as I already have a z7 II I'm afraid of clashing colors in post production
I haven’t shot a z7ii in a minute, but I’m guessing Nikon keeps this in mind and makes files as similar as possible

What is the name of that focusing mode that you are using while shooting ceremony ? I have Z6 II and i don't have that one , that combines tracking animals and people all in one mode.
There’s an auto option at the top. I should probably just have it on people technically
You don't have 3D either, as 3D (very stick and improved,) is only on Expeed7 bodies. I'd still like to specify faces (only,) eyes, or birds specifically on the Z6III. I hope they consider this in the future since the camera already has the capability. I'd also like to adjust or disable the closest subject bias in many of Nikon's modes.
What's with the camera on the ground? That's what neck straps are for, so you can carry your camera ... or multiple cameras. I'm a photojournalist, and I carry a notepad and pen with me. After taking a person's picture at an event, I have to write down their name and hometown. There's not always a safe place to put the camera down, but it is always safe around my neck.

The ZF is a beautiful camera to look and not use. It is very big and heavy - why? - in use is very "confusing". Z 6/7/8 models are wonderful. The option to change the eye/face subject is great and also on previous Z6.. Why don't other manufacturers do it?
50 1.2 is the one! Not for everyone. Some of the old F lenses are great. You may try some of their AI-S lenses for when on relaxed sessions. 50 1.2 or 1.4 for near subjects and 85 1.4 (beautiful), 180 2.8 (even greater).

@@TaylorJacksonPhotoI would like to hear your thoughts about Z6iii vs R6ii. I'm a Nikon user for 15+ years, but I'm a little underwhelmed with Z6iii release, especially the price. What I'm really waiting for is a mirrorless camera that can 100% of the time replace my DSLR in situations when you absolutely have to use focus assist beam. Yet to find a mirrorless camera that can be reliable in these situations. This is 70% my work. Clubs, restraunts, music halls etc... little to no ambient light. Focus assist beam up till now is only way to focus.
@@photo2000 Ugg I'm with you. I'm still hesitant to leave my D750. It seems like image quality for the z6iii is slightly underwhelming. Some of the dynamic range tests for the z6iii have shown it to be worse than the original z6.
@@photo2000I was astonished when Z6iii I was testing out found and focused on an eye in basically pitch dark. Its low light af is even better than Z8/9.
@@StriderGTS Stacking the sensor will have that impact, yes. I am sure my Z9 is slightly worse here as well vs my d850.
Canon, Sony, and now Panasonic have superior autofocus to Nikons whole mirrorless line up. But I understand how hostile Nikon “portrait” shooters can be and thumbs down hard.
Haha what are you talking about. I use all of these camera brands often and Sony canon and Nikon are very similar. I prefer Nikons autofocus to Sony and canon in a lot of situations.

@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Hi Taylor, just ignore the trolls. This guy has been sprouting the same twaddle on a few videos now. At the end, like you say, all the new Mirrorless bodies are on a very decent level now, if you know how to use your Zf/Z6iii/Z8/Z9 proper, you get the shots.
At the end, any good photographer can get quality shots with any camera, a bad tradesman will always blame his tools. People should se what they know best, what they’re comfortable with, and for which they have a good amount of glass.
