Wow, that's one beautiful machine, Gav. Nice score!
As a old Aussie Tamiya fan I'd just like to say...we love you. 😋🇦🇺
A race buggy that doesn’t look like only its mother could love it? Finally!
Looking forward to seeing that one racing. Amd once again... If you have a chance of getting a 511x go for it. As far as I know this was the highest evolution of Tamiya Buggys
NOWWWWWWWW, I get why Tamiya enthusiasts love these RCs so much, this buggy is awesome and I always wanted a Mighty Frog or Hornet as a kid, however, as an adult scoffed at the idea of buying these rc's. As a knuckle-dragging Arrma basher investor, I sincerely take every negative thing I have stated about Tamiya fans back until my last breath. I am very impressed with a lot of these types of RCs now, both on-road and offroad. I'm going to attempt to build a Tamiya buggy and on-road scale racer this winter!
I love the chassis, don't love the body. I put a later 511 body on mine. When you get the new belts on it, do see if it runs freely (no motor) to make sure you've assemled it all correctly. I somehow stuffed mine up the first time I assembled it, without doing long term damage.
The 501x should go pretty good and it's tougher than people think. The 502 was the next cab off the rank, it was a move to shaft driven on a similar chassis. The one thing I can say about the 502 is that the steering was arse. People ended up putting the steering components from the 501 in them. It was a geometry issue I think.
I'm looking forward to the build video!
Looking forward to building mine soon, I also need to send the body away for paint. Looking forward to the channel build for this
Dam i stand corrected- thats a good looking race buggy, but price and quality does it stack up to the same as yokomo aka mx4 ? Or Schumacher buggy of its time ? Thats the question? As prices are stupidly high for a tamiya!
That body is stunning 👏😎 wow.
Gorgeous indeed!
Looking forward to seeing the build of the shelf Queen, but really would like to see the other one racing 👍
I really like the bodyshell on the 501X, it's definitely different. You've got a pretty good one there, nice one!!
Lovely paint job for sure. Someone has some skills
Originally 501x have ball diffs, seems yours has gear diff, a plus for high grip carpet I think. I have one but not so good status. TRF are very beautiful. Maybe find a TRF201 ? Otherwise it's Touring onroad (TRF4xx series), you can find some relatively cheap. Or a TRF101, 2 or 3, which are F1 but it's harder. Can't wait for the build Video 👍🤝
Im really looking forward to the build!! I don’t mind if you build it as a shelf queen :))
2007 Euros winner in the hands of Hupo Hönigl. Not very maintenance friendly due to the top decks, rear/front suspension mount and camber mounts but a really solid car. Working on the 2009 TRF511 was a dream though. And what a car it is to drive + even more beautiful chassi than the 501X.
Nice buggy I always wanted a vintage car I have never had any vintage cars!
Well worth trying a vintage rere kit, some of them are stunning. Take a look at the Kyosho Turbo Optima 😍
lol
Starts with 1. Then 2. Then 33!😂
Looking forward to the build.
I’m not going to lie, I might have been looking at other TRF buggies lol
@rckicks - That's in popalong livery!
Yep, you are correct Paul, it does look a bit like Popalong's team colours, just painted properly. ;)
Rear wing looks like it’s been gone over with a scuff pad, the pro American drivers like to do that.
Not only pros scuff the wing, if you race your car and get the wing dirty, it‘s a very good way to freshen the wing back up after a day of racing
Did this car ever have problems with dirt clogging up that exposed belt drive? Seems kinda odd to me.
Someone has also fitted some big bore shocks to it, the 501/511 came with small bore shocks
Are these not the small bore? I’ll have to check against my NiB kit
Definitely Big Bores … But the threaded collars are mounted the wrong way around in the back
Big bores, stainless screws, front one way and gear diff and some 3racing parts.
As much as I hate to say it, almost a shame to run that buggy as well. The paintwork and detail on that are stunning.
I'm interested in how you do with it. I have a 511 with the upgrade chassis kit and it does very well against modern stuff.
Killin me with the auto focus. Level up and shoot manual. You will notice. -U10
Why are the rear spring adjusters upside down? Does the rear belt have a tensioner?
That’s not stock hardware, someone has fitted a stainless screw kit to it, tidy looking car
Yep, funny enough I just checked myself. It’s Hex hardware in the kit but black in colour and not the best quality vs the built one for sure.
Vary cool. No belt adjustment?
It has eccentric diff cams. This also means you can set the diff high or low.
@fremilsson I get it.I Wondered if it did. Thanks.
I shake when I unbox a new RC ,
TRF cars are pretty awesome.. it should do very well on your track.. I have a full set of TRF F1 cars that I race occasionally.. they keep up just fine with most modern cars.. they just look much nicer 😎
I had one and sold it, never should of done it but yeah, life decided differently, and i bought it rather cheap if you see what the prices go now😑😑
Raffle it off , double or treble your money on every car, better than sponsorship or UA-cam payments
Who wouldn't like one of these lol. Yeah would never bother racing it, same as ppl who are going to race the new MX4 forever 1/100 cars there is no parts supply not like any mass produced cars thats for sure. People would only do it for shit talking rights.
Looking forward to seeing the build of the shelf Queen, but really would like to see the other one racing 👍
