These were the best years for the tubes, around this time they made some of their greatest songs. Space Baby is one of my favorites, and i think it's the best singing Bill Spooner ever does.

This band was so far ahead of it's time, great live shows, serious chops. Love Bill spooner and Roger Steen.

The musical compositions and arrangements are so complex, yet filled with righteous hooks - incredible to think they were screwing around the whole time, at the same time. What a band, terribly underrated over time.

One of my favourite gigs ever was these guys at the New Theatre in Oxford, late 70s. Certainly one of the most underrated bands ever. Their musicianship combined with their live performance was almost too much to take in at one visit. I will always love them.

Can't favor this video more.....This is what The Tube were and are to me - a high point in my musical collection. No Band speaks to me more, not the Monks, Prince Edwards magic, not even Khan or early Genesis. Looking forward to the full Documentary. Nikki Lee

Tubes (Now), Whisky a go go,
30 shows, 15 nights, went opening night second show 11:30 and closing night last show 11:30 as well at which they proceeded to bring Farrah Fawcett ( no lie ) onstage for all the gifts of What Do You Want For Life.
My older brother and his friends took me. I was 15.

Life on a deserted island for me would have to include the Tubes first album and Young and Rich. After 35 years their music still hasn't gotten old to me. Thank you Todd Rundgren.

The Tubes never got respect as the serious, talented musicians they were. They played my high school in about 76' or 77'. Did Space Baby, and this one far more bizzare song in which a momma guitar gives birth to a baby guitar. Two other Bay Area bands of note also played my high school. Maybe you've heard of them. Journey when they were good (pre-Perry) and Earthquake (I still have a drumstick from that one). We had a TV, and a recording studio class. Our teacher (Chet Farrow) knew Bill Grahm.

Excellent video, thanks for posting, much appreciated. The Tubes are one of my very favorite progressive rock/punk/awesome bands of all time. I saw them live twice, at the Whisky, and Dodger Stadium. Prairie Prince was the best drummer, loved Michel Cotten's synth work. The Tubes are highly underrated. They're a Beauty ; )

Well, there are a lot of similarities to Zappa in The Tubes music, at least in their sense of humor/attitude towards mainstream American culture. I always thought the game show segment of What Do You Want From Life sounded alot like Does This Kind Of Life Look Interesting To You from 200 Motels.

Saw their first two tours. Besides Hawkwind space ritual tour, the best stage shows ever. If they had
rocked a little harder, they would have been huge!! They had the buzz. I blame the main songwriter Roger Steen for being too diverse. Great music but the joke wore thin. Finally had some hits but way after the fact.
