I will share my findings while experimenting with silencer:
the vent holes only work effectively when placed in the back of a shrouded barrel with a good air stripper,
the shape of the baffles does make a difference and the more funnel shaped ones turned out to be more effective in my investigations,
the 4 baffle rule really depends on how the baffles are made and the power of your gun ... the more power the more baffles you can stack before you get diminishing returns,
the final air stripper at the end of the silence also plays an important role ... incidentally maybe that's why the funnel shaped baffles work better as each baffle is also actin as air stripper.
I have not had much success with PLA 3D printed baffles as they tend to shatter just with the shock wave of the higher power air rifles but might work fine with the kind of power the CP2 makes.
Personally I think that the CP2, even with the tuning mods suggested by Tyrone, is still very backyard friendly with the stock silencer. I measured in pistol mode 104 dB unsuppressed and 89 dB suppressed: the stock silencer suppresses the noise by 15 dB and that is quite impressive for such a small thing.
If you are looking for mouse fart quiet my advice is to get a phonometer and compare your results at each step making sure it is quieter rather then convincing yourself it is so. Keep in mind that human hearing loudness in not linear but logarithmic .... IE for you to hear something twice as loud the noise needs to be 10 times more powerful (about each 3 dB increase in noise level doubles the noise power) meaning that achieving 3dB better suppression already means that you doubled the gas flow capturing capabilities of your silencer and making your silencer half as quiet means that you are capturing the gases 10 times better.

  • @Mrmancan

I didn't even try my suppressor I got it an did two easy mods that made it where I can shoot in one room an no one in the next room of my trailer heard a thing I put a disk of acoustic soundboard in the tip of the suppressor in the screw on cap with the main hole for the pellet an a few small holes around the main hole an in the big baffle just a hole for the pellet to go through that disk now the only sound there is , is the hammer spring hitting but I plan on doing the spring mods so there not as hard the hammer spring an the one that releases the air but over all this is a fun quite air gun .

The gamo magnum also does quite nicely up to about 20m. Howdy Tyrone, man I dig your videos. I'm an ex south african living in Germany. I really need your advice. I'm a pellet gun tinckerer and I have just today recieved my Artemis cp2 in .22 or 5.5 mm caliber.
I immediately inserted 2 rubber washers 4mm and stretched the hammer spring on my second teardown to 75mm with the 8 mm rubber washer setup. I ported the gas🎉 valve, the brass magody and barrels to 4 mm. Did the trigger etc etc...all the mods you did, I did exactly. However, the silencer does not open up on either end. I have used a blowtorch to heat up the threaded areas in case there was tons of locktite but to absolutely no avail will any end open. So I drilled 1mm holes near the end as you did exept I drilled 6 because, when using the silencer from the get go, the gun reached 430 fps.???..I removed it to check for rimming but there is none and without the silencer on, I'm getting 549 average fps at 10,5 od joules.
Man...I'm really disappointed. There are no leaks near the pellet breach, I changed out the rubber O rings on everything and still, nothing like the 800 fps you got on your 5.5 mm CP2.
Can you please advise me as to what the issue could be???
I warmed the 12g umarex gas bottles up to more than room temp. Still, really kak fps.
    please Help me Brother...🙏🏻

      @African-Budget-Pellet-Gunner  Місяць тому +1

Hi, no problem bud, I will try assist. First Things first, just for realistic expectations, in .22 it is highly unlikely that you will get much more than 560-570fps. Unfortunately the co2 pressure is just too low. So from your comment it sounds like you are fairly close to that without the silencer.
So to strip down the silencer, the steps you have taken is what I would generally recommend but sometimes with that aluminum and loctite it really gets properly stuck. It should unscrew on both ends so perhaps try the other side.
If the silencer is affecting fps, it must be clipping somewhere, I believe the holes are usually 6mm so perhaps going in small increments open the the silencer hole which goes through the ends and baffles(the main hole where) pellet goes through to 6.5mm, 7mm, 7.5mm until it stops affecting fps.
The other this is try changing your gas to perhaps ASG that seems to work best

@@African-Budget-Pellet-Gunner Hey Tyrone, man I just can't stand this tech. I sent a loooong reply back to you 3 days ago, which obviously did not go through.
In it i was explaining how I almost destroyed the silencer, having to heat it up with a blowtorch and finding so much locktite on all the threaded ends that, I am totally convinced, whoever assembled this at the factory has a penchant for locktite and a hatred for tinkerers.
I couldn't reinsert the baffles or baffle plates as they just would not go in without becoming stuck again and deforming...even after careful sanding.
So I had an idea, which works flippin well actually, I took a small paint roller, (long haired), removed it from the handle, removed the end caps and found the plastic tube the roller hairs are stuck to, to have an inner diameter to be around 7,5 mm...perfect.
I heated the tip of a thin screwdriver to push through both sides of the roller, roughly 6 holes, of around 3 mm thick, inserted it, (by the way it self-centres), and....BOOOM!...silent shooting...very, very quiet actually.
So, onto another question bud.... I performed all the power output thingies you suggest except, I never really removed any thread from the valve yet, and I'm getting roughly 579 fps in rifle form and about 20 shots before a noticible drop in power, as the gas is depleting more rapidly, I know.
However, should I remove some thread or drill out the valve, for a bit more volume, even though I'll lose more on shot count...what kind of power increase in fps would this result in and, is it worth doing, if I want the fps and am not worried about fewer shots ???
Thanks Boet and I hope your doing alright hey? ✊🏼

Great video, your mods are a good mix of a baffle and a Weihrauch sytem silencer i think. It‘s sad that any kind of silencers are strictly forbidden in my country, had to buy a pretty expensive airrifle to dont disturbe people to much 😢😉 cause most 40 joule guns are barking like hell

@Andreas Budischek Thanks for your kind words glad you enjoyed the video. I can only imagine that a 40J air rifle will have a serious bark even this CP2 has a bark without a silencer. So what is illegal buying and modifying silencers? But you can buy a rifle which already has a silencer

@Andreas Budischek that is pretty tough, guess it is an advantage for me living in the South Africa. With regards to air rifles there isn't too many restrictions. I think there's only a restriction on caliber but nothing on power output.

@@African-Budget-Pellet-Gunner the power is not restrictet and calibers under 6mm are free to buy if you older than 18. for bigger calibers the dealer have to send your all the paperwork to the district government and from then the gun is in the countrywide system till it dies😜.
With that you also give police the right to come to your home and check that you have it locked up seperatet from ammunition like you have a firearm.

Something I learnt today, on www.airgunforum.co.uk/community/index.php?threads/absolutely-gobsmacked.224030/ is that a CO2 will maintain 850psi (60 Bar) until the liquid has gone and you only have gas left which will be soon gone. Which means CO2 effectively has a regulator.
Nice, but what has this to do with moderators?
Well there you are, you have a nearly constant 850psi. Initially the pressure will be a bit too high and the valve will shut early so you have to shoot a few pellets until the airgun comes on-song but then it should be consistent until the liquid CO2 has gone. And for this reason it is perhaps worth waiting a few seconds between pellets for the CO2 gas to evolve from the liquid as it is not instantaneous.
At one time my work entailed measuring pressure waves from military explosives ...
When a CO2 airgun is shot (I don't think an airgun can be fired), the expanding CO2 drives the pellet up the barrel which drives the air in the barrel ahead of it forming a longitudinal sound pressure wave. That pressure wave goes into the moderator cones where it is compressed and reflected. That rebound should occur as the pellet is transiting the moderator thus assisting it on its journey. With the pellet away from the barrel, the excess spent CO2 is now trapped in the moderator thus dissipating and silencing its retort.
This is not entirely different to a motorcycle exhaust system. If you simply want quieter you put sound absorbent material in the silencer. As you have done. If you want greater efficiency you arrange for pressure waves to be reflected to create a partial vacuum which scavenges the exhaust gasses out, and it's still quieter than taking the silencer off. And which gives our airgun pellet a few more legs.

co2 is depending om temp at 5 celcius only 10 bar at 30 celcius 65 bar, thats why the co2 gun is not for cold climates . for 10 m olympic they start with co2 after the recoilles springers ,but soon it was the pcp ,because the pressure is more controled. but also somewhat dependable on temp , i shot a pcp gun that got frozen at the outside , the expanding gas works like a freezer system . springers also like warm ,,you get less heat and airvolume in the cold ,and less speed
