Thank you all for educating me on the fact that "orchid" is not the genus. Y'all didn't even make fun of me 😆 I really appreciate all the knowledge you've already shared, and the channel recommendations!
Hey Dave! Welcome to the hobby 😁 Hope you have room for about 300 more 😂😂 Hausermann is one of my favorites. They’re probably responsible for about a quarter of my collection. Enjoy your new kiddos! You’ve chose some nice plants 🪴🌺😁 Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing. I just placed an order today so next week you’ll have to stand by for my Hausermann unboxing 🙈
I watch Dani too. She’s so knowledgeable! I had a huge orchid collection when I lived in Miami (over 100). My husband and I divorced and my plant care went out the window. I haven’t had an orchid since. Memories, you know. But, that was 30 years ago & barely a footnote now. I wasn’t planning to add any to my aroid collection, but I was gifted 2 phals at the last plant swap. They’re very healthy with no ID. She said she thinks they’re pink 😂 Having been bitten by the orchid bug before, we shall see how many I end up with. Very easy plants to care for. Happy for you Dave 😊
Hi Dave thanks I’m excited to send your video to my Daughter she’s been into Orchids for a few months now you should of seen the ones she grew over the summer 🐞👌🏽 but they are beautiful interesting plants I wish you good luck with your new baby Beauties ,, lol PS. Between you and my daughter you guys are tempting me. 🙀👌🏽✌🏽✌🏽🪴🪴🪴🪴
Thank you for the reinforcement! As I said, I'd never intended to do an unboxing, and did this on a whim, since I'm really known (as much as I'm known 😆) for Hoya. I'm sooo glad that I filmed those lovely plants! Cheers from Iowa City
I'm so excited for you! Orchid flowers bring me through the winter too. I love Timothy Christopher; it is such a good bloomer. I think you are wrong about them not appreciating your thank you. Every time I have written Hausermans a note they have always responded in the kindest way. They are class act nursery and the quality of your plants speaks volumes.
Beautiful additions to your plant collection. You make me tempted to look up Hausermans orchids and check out my wish list to see what might still be available for purchase. I will be looking forward to your updates on how long it takes to bloom. I actually like unboxing videos including yours. Thanks. Enjoyed it very much
Love that you are getting into orchids. I like miniature orchids that are about an inch to a couple inches and fit into a jar type terrarium that I can display on a desk or table. As for the the types of plants I refer to as the "leafy greens", like anthurium, philodendron, monsteras, pothos, etc... I have to say that I have not met a plant I didn't like, but like you, I have limited space and I have to choose my battles wisely. I would rather have flowers (a pop of color) rather than just leaves, hence my focus on Hoya and orchids. I have only four anthurium, two strappy species and two with heart shaped leaves (A. crystallinum and A. luxurians). I think that is enough to have a "taste" of what it's like to keep/grow these. Your selection of orchids is really nice. Every spring I like going to the Santa Barbara Orchid Festival. I will be waiting to pick up some plants there next spring. Have fun with new plant babies!
Thanks for the nice comment! So many orchid people have chimed in with friendly advice and encouragement. I just love it 😊 And what a great idea: an orchid jar. I'm on it.
Greetings😊 Congrats on catching the orchid bug!🌺 You are soooo right! There is nothing better than having orchid blooms in the dead of winter! My favorite reward of growing them! The Orchid Whisperer (Amy) is also a great channel to learn more about growing them👍 Good luck w your pursuit...soon to be obsession/addiction!😁🌺😁
Really beautiful plants Dave & Orchid Girl is definitely the place to go to get lots of reliable information. Looking forward to the blooms you will be sharing with us 👍👍
I have shopped at Hauserman‘s for decades. If you’re ever in the area, it is worth a trip! Their plants are beautiful and it’s just gorgeous to see seas of beautiful flowers all standing at attention and in bloom. I also get my orchid bark my moss perlite from them too. The nice thing is is I’m only 5 miles from them so I go there quite frequently. If you can get over there, it’s highlyrecommended.
I'm about 3+ hours away, but have family south of there. So I am defiantly planning a trip. Somehow I forgot to order the bark--d'oh! Thanks for the nice comment 😊
Your comment about sending the nursery an email of gratification was inspiring enough to make me write this comment. I dont feel like young people (myself included) have been taught the ways of a thank you letter .This is the first video Ive seen of your and I think you did a wonderful job keeping it concise and relatable. Just so you know orchids belong to the family Orchidaceae and have many geniuses inside that family (they are the most diverse family of flowering plants). I thought your video was wonderful!
First, thank you for the clarification! When I said I don't know anything about orchids, I did prove it in real time 😆 I did go ahead and send a brief email. Almost everyone who buys plants from me sends me the same, and I so appreciate it. And finally, thanks for the kind words on the video! 😊
I have three types of orchid. Nothing special They bloom 2 times a year. Keep them in my orchid room a k a the sunny utility room😂😂. One of them was a gift from my sister, who visited me in Sweden, from England. Had not seen her for 10 years, so it is a special plant in my collection of green wonders. Yours are stunning Dave, enjoy them, real eye candy. Your wife is wise lady. I agree, choice plants you know you can manage for time and space /conditions in the home. Great unboxing, your wonderful bantar made it a pleasure to watch. Have a great weekend🌺
Love it! I’ve always been scared of growing orchids, because I thought it was so hard and they were so mysterious, but in the last year I bought 2 Phalaenopsis. I’m in MN. Patiently waiting for them to spike. Excited to watch your new journey.
they are actually fairly easy but at the same time they can also die easily. The most common myth you will hear about phalaenopsis is that they need a cool down to flower. This is complete rubbish and you can safely ignore this. They just need to be kept below 80F in order to make sure they flower. I know Missorchidgirl will say otherwise, in fact lots of hobby growers love this belief but it's completely redundant. Well it's up to you. I keep mine warm and have experimented with every temperature for 4 years now. Temperature does not get them to spike. Danni has actually proved it herself this year inadvertantly by moving house. She admits in her new house temperatures have not gone below 70F yet her phals all still started spiking just fine in her new house this year. Yet she will still not publicly admit this. She just mentioned it in passing this year. So what is important? Well, you have to always provide enough light without causing sunburn to the leaves. Then, in my opinion the most important and underrated aspects to orchid growing is fertilizing and pest control. The reason your orchid doesn't want to flower will most often be down to pests. Sometimes it has taken me up to 4 years to get rid of pests on some orchids. You might think I am not very good at getting rid of pests and honestly it does seem like it despite me spending hundreds of dollars on it but the truth is once an orchid has pests it is ridiculously hard to get rid of them again. And it will affect flowering. so if you can get that aspect right, then they will flower like clockwork by themselves based on the change in sunlight hours throughout the year, spiking in autumn, flowering in spring and sometimes they have a rebloom in summer if temperatures can be kept below 80F. As to the fertilizing, again ignore the advice you hear about orchids in general. The truth is that orchids require exactly the same feed as Anthuriums or any other plant I have ever grown. The secret with orchids is that they are grown hydroponically. And in hydroponic growing you use half the recommended fertilizer as soil grown plants. So that would be 1 teapsoon per gallon of a 10-10-10 fertilizer or half a teaspoon per gallon of 20-20-20. I do need to point out I know many orchid growers that use far less than the recommended amount. Some people believe orchids are weak feeders and they might have even been growing orchids for years already. Using less fertilizer works... but the plant will be far weaker, will pick up pests more easily and develop root and stem rot far more likely. So most growers never fully notice the effect of underfertilzing. That is one difficult aspect. Like you can fertilize two orchids with comlpetely different strength fertilizers and after a year you might not even visually notice a difference between the two plants. It's only from experience that you would know what difference it makes and how much bettter they bloom as a result if you do it right. And many people are honestly too scared to try doing it right because they have been told how easy it is to accidentally burn orchid roots and so would rather alwys use a far too weak dose just to be safe. So it is not hard, but you do have to stick to doing things right. And fertilizing like I mentioned plays a very important role once you have figured out how to pot them, how to water them and how much light they need. Using a ph meter to adjust the ph to 6.0 is also beneficial. Otherwise rain or tap water can be used. The rarest orchid collection in the US gets watered with tap water. I can;t remember the name now off the top of my head but they have over 7000 orchids, some of them hundreds of years old so they know what they are doing and I learnt a lot seeing how they do things. The most important thing is to enjoy growing them so if you prefer to fertilize too weak, knowing you are fertilizing too weak, you will most likely still get blooms, often times the orchid just produces less flowers and grows a little bit slower but many still do fine, worst case scenario you have to replace it every few years but that is just part of the hobby. The most obsessed orchid growers, despite them having a lot of experience are still always going to be amongst the growers that lose the most orchids per year just because we can't help ourselves getting more and having a collection that is probably too big. You will see, there are people that take this hobby very seriously, as in they will critizise others for losing orchids but these are usually the people that believe phalaenopsis need to be cooled and fertilized weakly, thus bound to fail themselves also. The critical people are thus those that have just not lost as many orchids yet because their collection hasn't grown that much yet. I don't care as much if people lose orchids or not, like I said that is part of the hooby and needs to be embraced even. What I care about is every year new people spreading the usual myths about orchids where I have just highlighted the most often repeated ones by beginners. So yeah, don't trust too much you read about them. The more you learn about orchids, chances are the more you will get confused. When once you have the hang of it, they grow by themselves and every year you'll be like "oh it's that time of year again when they are spiking/blooming/growing.
@@tomfurmby88 I have this message flagged in my inbox, printed, and saved to my "don't lose this incredible information" folder. Thank you so, so much for taking this much time tell help this newbie. I cannot wait to read it later 😊
I was unequivocal in my determination to not take up another plant genus... until I saw Phalaenopsis Pinlong Cheris!!! 😮 Beautiful! I do have one Phalaenopsis out of 7 that my husband brought home early summer from a customer who was going to throw them out. Not my choice. I gave away 3 and this surviving one bloomed wonderfully outdoors. I had no desire to replace them. Well that's what happens to us plant junkies, I mean plant parents. Thanks for sharing! Look forward to your next! Dee, NY
Missed opportunity: I could have call my channel Sober Plant Junkie 🤣😂🤣 I've been looking forward to orchids for quite some time. As noted, I do have a few. As per usual on this channel, all sorts of orchid people have offered friendly, helpful info to this newbie. I don't know how the algorithm weeds out all the snotty people, but bravo 😆 Good to hear from you, Dee
oh, bit by the orchid bug awesome I have about 120 orchids of various kinds at the moment I used to have more just gotten a little old and so I sold about half of my collection. A few years back .still have a lot of house plants andHoya. orchids are amazing if you don’t have any already and you want to branch out try Oncidium they have really pretty flowers and they last quite a while too can’t wait to see the flowers
Until I got my first "grocery store" phal (at a second hand store, of all places), I had no idea how long the flowers last. I was both delighted, and then disappointed that I'd passed those by for sooo many years with the incorrect assumption they were just about "done." Mea culpa.
I have thought about adding orchids to my plant collection for a while but have always put it off. Then while watering my Hoyas I realized I already the fertilizer, so why not now. I've been influenced. Nice going Dave😉
So much beauty, so little money! I'm really impressed with some of the channels that people have recommended. Especially how someone with really deep knowledge and zillions of fancy orchids still loves the big commercial hybrids. Love it!
Lovely guys you've got 🥰 Since you claim to know nothing of Orchids, lemme let you in on something my little Mini-Orchid taught me and which all my other Orchids thank her for: All my Orchids are in bark. I water them once a week. The big ones only if there is no more condesation in the pot. The small ones usually are happy to have another drink after a week. Now here's how I do it: I fill the entire pot with water to the brim and let it sit for hours. Usually over night. I fill the water in the evening and let them sit in that water over night. In the morning I empty it fully, I usually check in a couple of hours if there is some more water that has drippped down, I empty that, too. Then I don't touch the Orchids again until a week is up. Haven't killed an Orchid ever since I figured out this watering schedule. It works for them all. They flower all the time and grow well. Lovely dudes, there is always somebody flowering at my home :)
@pudik2008 I honestly don't 🤷♀️ I saw some fertilizer sticks which I used a couple of time and there is also an Orchid spray that I've used a few times, since it was recommended on a youtube video. But to be honest, I didn't notice any difference. I've had my Orchids for 6 years now and they grow well and flower frequently with and without the fertilizers I've tried.
I don't claim to know nothing--I truly don't know anything 🤣 My big phal, I've always soaked once a week, but for 30-45 minutes. Hadn't experimented with anything longer. I've got several orchids doing well--I'll have to play around with this. Thanks so much for your detailed comment!
Oh, do yourself that favor and gooo for it! My big phal was in perfect bloom for over seven months before I finally chopped the spikes to give the foliage a chance over the summer. Biggest bang for buck in my plant collection!
How pretty!!! The Rothschildiana x Timothy Christopher is really, really special. Love the foliage, love the flowers. I have always had a much easier time getting standard sized phals to spike. The mini ones never want to bloom for me. But that one looks bigger for a mini, so maybe I'd have an easier time with it. My orchids really could use a lot of TLC. I've been pretty neglectful of them for quite a while. Maybe I'll make it a project to get them straightened out this winter. 🙂
Beautiful healthy plants. Looks like this is a very reputable grower. You are like a kid in a candy store with these new purchases. You will be an expert grower very soon!!!
I love Orchids by Hausermann. I've been ordering from them for about four years now. I'm always happy with the quality of their orchids. I would like to someday visit them. I'm about six hours away from them in Kentucky.
Wow, beautiful plants. They look immaculate. So excited to follow your orchid journey! Good luck, Dave! Oh and orchids are the family (Orchidaceae). Genus would be _Phalaenopsis, Oncidium, Dendrobium_ etc.
Hausermann is amazing. I have the pink girl, timothy christopher and the white dream all from them. So healthy and pest free. I am an Orchid/Hoya head. I have way more orchids than other houseplants, I love them. The next time you are searching for orchids, you might want to check Orchid Web, they have absolutely amazing orchids, so many genus. My tip for you is do not water the ones in moss too frequently, you don't want root rot and try not to get water in the crowns, you don't want crown rot either. Enjoy those beauties and good luck!!
Oh, good tips--thank you! As I said, I don't know anything. Someone had to straighten me out on the whole genus thing. Sooo much to learn, so exciting! I'll be checking out Orchid Web right after I water some ... Hoya 😁
Nice! We can learn together. Until some kind orchid folks commented here, I didn't even know that "orchid" isn't the genus 😆 Truly starting from scratch.
New subscriber her. Also serial (unintentional) orchid killer. I discovered Miss Orchid Girl about a month ago and am trying once again to keep a couple of grocery store orchids alive, so I'm on that journey with you. Looking forward to more videos.
I'm delighted to have you! And excited that we can be orchid newbie together (a lot of true experts have been so helpful in the comments--his is a very friendly place). My first orchid was a thrift store find, very mature phal. It stayed in bloom for over seven months, until I finally cut the spikes to give the foliage a chance for the summer. That really knocked me out!
I don’t like anthurium either. I do have what I call a grocery store anthurium. They hade the dark green leaves and reddish orange flowers. It just pushed out a second bloom this year. Second year I’ve had it and it just bloomed this summer
My first orchid was a grocery store phal (purchased at a second hand store, of all things), and I could not believe how long the blooms lasted. I'd lived for decades with the incorrect assumption that they had the lifespan of a plucked pansy 🙄 Live and learn 😁
I'm also much more interested in orchids than anthuriums. I honestly can't tell the difference between them and the price tag on some of them is ridiculous (and those are usually just some kind of clarinervium x crystallinum) I'm happy with my 2 crystallinums, don't need anymore anthuriums in my house. But with orchids.... It's just so much more satisfying, so many different types and they all look so differently, and the price is usually affordable.
We are united on this. Good Lord with the prices on some of those Anthuriums. I obviously didn't buy anything fancy, but the prices were so cheap. Couldn't be happier!
If you like Phal Pinlong Cheris, I heavily recommend Phalaenopsis (Petite Snow x Tzu Chiang Balm)! I just got mine from them (in bud) last week. Another interesting tidbit about the pinlong - if you give it enough light, the underside of the foliage will turn a really nice shade of purple! Another recommendation from Hausermann's - Phal Sogo Vivien! Another mini Phal, but it has variegated leaves!
I've been growing Phalaenopsis orchids for quite a few years... when they bloom, it's amazing for months. Thank you so much for sharing where you bought these! I would love a few different varieties. I too have no interest in Anthuriums.
We aren't alone in our indifference to Anthurium, it turns out 😁 I've been around a minute. I've seen so many trends pop off at this point. It's kind of difficult to move the needle for me 😊
Very nice purchase. The orchid bug is real. Be careful! I love the hello plant lovers channel. Howard’s orchids is very educational and beautifully shot but he doesn’t post often. Roger’s orchids is also a great one. Roger posts almost every day.
@@sommerfuglen01 I have watched some of each now. I like that they're both older than I am and on UA-cam. Hardly a gold standard for content, but I'm tickled anyway 😆
Thank you for the recommendation! He looks to be exactly what I need--the beginner who (until a couple of days ago) didn't even know that "orchid" isn't the genus 😆 Thanks much, from Iowa City
Wow! Really, you have to stop looking over my shoulder. 😂. I've been rescuing "dead" orchids to hone my skills the way you taught us to do with Hoya. Have you given us the link to this nursery yet? I've been looking through the comments but haven't seen it. Thanks again for another great video!
I have 2 orchids blooming now. A vanda and a dendrobium. The vanda is bare root and the dendrobium is in bark with a bit of coco choir. They live outside in the summer and in a greenhouse in the winter, but when they are blooming, i bring them into our kitchen so i can enjoy the blooms.
Do you water the vanda daily, or...? Is your kitchen very bright, or is it true that orchids can do well in lower light while in bloom? Cheers from Iowa City
Hausermann's is def good prices and can have some real gems, though sometimes they come with pests so be careful! I got the Jia Ho Pink Girl last month and she's blooming - should be fragrant too! I will say that they often send plants spiking or even in flower randomly!
I kind of accept that all anyone can do is their best, and that guaranteeing zero pests is (almost) impossible. Accept the root mealies that came with some plants. That I was not amused about *at all.* 😆 Heck ya to being fragrant! Why not tick all the boxes 😊
Hi Dave, I’ve got 4 Phals growing in sphagnum moss, bright filtered light and every watering is GT foliage focus. They love the stuff. I was looking at GT orchid bloom but don’t think I need it. One held its blooms for 8 months! 😍🥳🇳🇿
That's fantastic! I finally got the spikes on my my phal after about seven months to give the foliage a chance 😂 I sometimes use foliage focus, other times I use MSU. I agree. Don't think I need to invest in the orchid bloom, either. Cheers from Iowa City
I started growing orchids in Ottumwa in the 1970's.... Hausermann's is A1. Back then the open house was in late February during a February thaw... Talk about a kid in a candy store! If you haven't already....visit. I guess the Open house is in the fall these days🤓
I'm absolutely planning a trip over. I'll also be attending my first meeting of the Eastern Iowa Orchid Society soon. Eventually I'll learn something about these amazing plants 😁
Oh great, I’m on the Hauserman‘s website filling up my cart. The only thing that might hold me back is the weather, not sure if it will be too cold to ship here in Minneapolis at this time of year. Regardless, excited to watch the orchid journey!
I got mine FedEx, next day. It's definitely chilly here. They'll let you know--but isn't that a great website? Easy to shop, very clear shipping charges, etc and so on. And they update it "almost daily." Impressive!
Soo my comment disappeared… glad the second attempt showed up so heres the edit (The same thing happened a while ago I think it was on your Hoya Mathilde video 🤔) Anyway Im with you on Anthuriums… I find them hard to get into… There were a few that I found different and sort of liked, but I did not like their price tag at all! I would like a pendulum one someday, but have yet to find a nice space for it 😅 For now Ill stick to the 3 that are already here. As for orchids…. I do appreciate the pop of colour that they add. But space wise…. They compete for windowsill spots with the Hoyas and for me the Hoyas are winning 😅. I cannot grow Orchids in the living room, one of my cats wants to be the only flower there (she loves to swat orchid flowers… and the Ceropegia Woodii that is trying to conquer the floor but leaves all other plants alone). Currently growing some grocery store Phals… I find their care less challenging than Anthurium care, but maybe they are in just the right spot? As for unboxings (and plant tours)…. As long as the person who is presenting them has a sense of humor in their presentation… and I am generally interested in the plants… (optional: and theres some relevant information…) they can be fun 😊
I'm in the process of building three new sets of shelves. My wife just handed over the entire living room to be for plants (as in, no book shelves--and since her career is in literature, that was mighty kind of her). So ... I've made some room. As for cats ... I do not know why mine haven't figured out how much fun plants/flowers are to play with, but they haven't. Not even the Bella that hangs directly in front of a window *and* over the couch! Finally, I don't like that you've been shadow banned! It's not me, I promise 🤣🤣🤣
@@soberplantguy That is indeed very kind of her! 3 sets of shelves…. Thats a lot of space! Theres about 40 plants living in the living room here, of which about half are in an Ikea Milsbo cabinet. That leaves my husband plenty of space to not feel overtaken by the plants (anymore). There used to be a jungle cactus right above his dining table chair (=workspace) and he sometimes felt attacked by it 😅 Its only that one cat and those 2 types of plants… Though our other cat sometimes looks at the Scindapsus in a funny way when it is down on the table for watering, maybe he is considering attacking it? 😆 Good thing it doesn’t happen often I wonder why though
@@Wubblyt I think it's very gracious of us to offer our significant others a little space in between the jungle. Do we get the credit we deserve? No, but we're clearly taking the high ground here 😆

Nice haul. I buy orchids from hausermam also. Y last order included, the same two mini phals you purchased.i also have a you tube channel, besotted orchids.
hausermans gave me mealies twice, but i know better than to buy their larger phals. I get their masdevallias however, i can treat and wash them when I get them in the mail. Even if I risk pests... they got the variety you cant find elsewhere!
Oof. I kinda work with the understanding that non one can absolutely guarantee no pests ever. Now, I have certainly dealt with a repeat offender in the past--unfortunately it was *root* mealies, and let me tell you how much fun that was for me........................
Hausermann in Addison Illinois is a great source for orchids. I visit them often and always end up with a geeat haul for 100.00. Wonder if its the same nursery.
The address shows Villa Park on Addison Rd, so I'd say that's the place! I can't wait to visit next year. I'll start putting away a little fun money starting .... now 😁
We all have our likes & dislikes. I have 3 monstera bc I was YT influenced, and I can't stand monstera. Same with pilea peppermiodes - how it has survived me is a miracle.
@@soberplantguy Yep, I'm going to leave them outside my grocery store with a sign that says: FREE. Good riddance to plants we don't like. I've had that damn peppermioides since 2020 and I am 'never' going to like it.
You are a bad influence. Couldn't even get all the way through the video before I had to check these guys out.....and now I've placed an order. I guess I can get back to the video now !
The thing about orchids is that you kind of stuck most of the time with no flowers and the leaves (most of them) not that interesting. About the anthiriums I get you, they all look pretty much the same..I only have the strapy ones which are unique. I feel that hoya people are also rhipsalis , ephypillum people?🤔 am I wrong?
This year I cut the flower spikes off my full-size phal after it had been in bloom for over 7 months. Gotta give the foliage a turn ...! I consider that a huge payout for a few months of not ... uh ... "great" looking leaves 🤣🤣🤣 And I think you're correct about your analysis of Hoya peoples. I haven't explored any of those plants, yet. ("Yet" doing a lot of heavy lifting here)
@soberplantguy wow 7 months?!? Maybe you're the orchid whisperer! In my country orchids are kind of "present" plants: looks great at the nursery and thats about it. Every person I know threw it after few month claiming "it's just a couple of leaves that does nothing.. its doesn't even want water"😂..but I totally get the pleasure of growing a plant that is a bit of a challenge and needs more expertise
Some of us don’t mind looking at the foliage in order to get those beautiful blooms. None of the other plants in ny collection bloom so it’s not out of place.

Cool! You can get cool foliage on paphs too, they also don’t get as huge as some others which is nice. Enjoy the new rabbit hole!
Nice! I'll check those out. I obviously went for the mostly Phals since it's the season. In Iowa, I wasn't kidding, we need some winter beauty 😅
Thank you! I did send a little note. I was just having some fun myself. Who doesn't appreciate happy email? I can't wait to visit them in person!
I have two Phals one of which I got last week. It's got striped leaves and lovely flowers. It looks like we might be going on a journey together. Fun.
Let's do it!!!
Great haul!! They’re all beautiful!
Right? I've ordered quite a few plants and these are as good and mostly better than any of those. I'm over the moon 😊
Hey Dave. Lovely set of orchids 😊. The unboxing was interesting. Looking forward to seeing your new orchid greenhouse 🤔😏
My wife will be ... "excited" to read this comment 😆
Beautiful additions to your plant collection. You make me tempted to look up Hausermans orchids and check out my wish list to see what might still be available for purchase. I will be looking forward to your updates on how long it takes to bloom. I actually like unboxing videos including yours. Thanks. Enjoyed it very much
Thank you, Kimberly. Your orchids are doing splendidly over here.
Thank you! I'm looking forward to getting to know these new channels you orchard folks have been recommending. Y'all seem like good people 😊
I know nothing about orchids but getting into a new genus is always fun! ☺
Same! But I did get educated that orchids aren't the genus. So much to learn 🤓
Really beautiful plants Dave & Orchid Girl is definitely the place to go to get lots of reliable information. Looking forward to the blooms you will be sharing with us 👍👍
Thanks, Heather! But feel free to drop your knowledge bombs on me!
When I said I don't know anything about orchids, I did prove it in real time 😆
I did go ahead and send a brief email.
That's a beautiful story. I'm glad that you know how to care for plants 😊
Love it! I’ve always been scared of growing orchids, because I thought it was so hard and they were so mysterious, but in the last year I bought 2 Phalaenopsis. I’m in MN. Patiently waiting for them to spike. Excited to watch your new journey.
The cooler temps should kick that in. Just because Phals are common doesn't make them any less incredible. I mean, c'mon!
@ I’m all for plants that will flower in the winter!
@@stacywatkins2562 Right? Not everyone is going to understand how important that is/what a lonnggg bleak winter is 🥶
they are actually fairly easy but at the same time they can also die easily.

I try to remember it. I wouldn't say that I'm 100% successful, though 🤣🤣🤣
A few years back .still have a lot of house plants andHoya. orchids are amazing if you don’t have any already and you want to branch out try Oncidium they have really pretty flowers and they last quite a while too

@@soberplantguy I’ve attached myself to you like a delicate strand of juicy mycelium.
@ it’s obviously a symbiotic relationship.
I agree that orchids are a great idea as addition to Hoyas as they are both bringing beautiful flowers to our homes. ❤
Love it!
Lovely guys you've got 🥰
Since you claim to know nothing of Orchids, lemme let you in on something my little Mini-Orchid taught me and which all my other Orchids thank her for:
All my Orchids are in bark. I water them once a week. The big ones only if there is no more condesation in the pot. The small ones usually are happy to have another drink after a week. Now here's how I do it:
I fill the entire pot with water to the brim and let it sit for hours.
How do you fertilize them? Thanks in advance 😊
@@walle5667 Thank you for your reply. I was always afraid of them as I killed one that I got as a gift. Might give them a try.👍🏼
That's a good project! Of course, I have no idea how things will go, but you've probably picked up on how optimistic I am about everything 🤣
@soberplantguy The signs were subtle. 😉🤣
Beautiful healthy plants. Looks like this is a very reputable grower. You are like a kid in a candy store with these new purchases. You will be an expert grower very soon!!!

I love Hausermann's! I've ordered from them multiple times. I have all of the phals in your order! This was a fun video for me. Thanks!
Awesome! I can't wait until Spring. They aren't too, too far away from us.
I love Orchids by Hausermann. I've been ordering from them for about four years now. I'm always happy with the quality of their orchids. I would like to someday visit them. I'm about six hours away from them in Kentucky.
That's fantastic. No testimonial like a repeat customer. And I'm a little over three hours away from them--see you over there?
Wow, beautiful plants. They look immaculate. So excited to follow your orchid journey! Good luck, Dave!
Oh and orchids are the family (Orchidaceae). Genus would be _Phalaenopsis, Oncidium, Dendrobium_ etc.
Thank you! See, I needed clarification straight off the bat. Thanks for taking the time, and good to hear from you!
@@soberplantguy No problem 😀
Hoya 😁

Love your selection. I’m in Sydney, Australia and a beginner with. Phalanopsis. Please keep us informed on how all your babies are progressing.
Actually, I'm quite fond of those 😊
So happy your getting into orchids I just love them❤
My first orchid was a grocery store phal (purchased at a second hand store, of all things), and I could not believe how long the blooms lasted. I'd lived for decades with the incorrect assumption that they had the lifespan of a plucked pansy 🙄 Live and learn 😁
I'm also much more interested in orchids than anthuriums. I honestly can't tell the difference between them and the price tag on some of them is ridiculous (and those are usually just some kind of clarinervium x crystallinum)
I'm happy with my 2 crystallinums, don't need anymore anthuriums in my house.
💚
@@soberplantguy the fancy orchids are not as expensive as the "rare" anthuriums
@@aosteklov This is a fact.
Thank you so much! Copy and pasted your list so that I can check them out tomorrow. I truly appreciate you taking the time!

I will say that they often send plants spiking or even in flower randomly!

For now Ill stick to the 3 that are already here.

As for cats ... I do not know why mine haven't figured out how much fun plants/flowers are to play with, but they haven't. Not even the Bella that hangs directly in front of a window *and* over the couch!

There used to be a jungle cactus right above his dining table chair (=workspace) and he sometimes felt attacked by it 😅
Its only that one cat and those 2 types of plants… Though our other cat sometimes looks at the Scindapsus in a funny way when it is down on the table for watering, maybe he is considering attacking it? 😆

Nice haul. I buy orchids from hausermam also. Y last order included, the same two mini phals you purchased.i also have a you tube channel, besotted orchids.
Just for the name, I'll be checking out your channel this early morning 😁
Très jolie. 🇨🇦❤️
Agreed 😊
@@soberplantguyOoh la la!
hausermans gave me mealies twice, but i know better than to buy their larger phals.
I will order from them
Good deal ! I can't wait to visit them next Spring.
I've had so many plants where one day I'm like, Why am I growing this thing??
@@soberplantguy Yep, I'm going to leave them outside my grocery store with a sign that says: FREE. Good riddance to plants we don't like. I've had that damn peppermioides since 2020 and I am 'never' going to like it.
@@rebeccahenderson7761 Freeeeeeee-dom!!!
I have grow lights to help with growing
Saaaame. I have over three dozen and counting 🤣
Kathleen for president
I hope she doesn't read this.
But she will.....
@@soberplantguy have you considered Secretary of Transportation?
I didn't need to see you break the tape...like that you didn't include tea brewing, nail tapping and floof removal either...
"Break" the tape 😆 I did a little dance. That's all you missed .......
You are a bad influence. Couldn't even get all the way through the video before I had to check these guys out.....and now I've placed an order. I guess I can get back to the video now !
Yesssss! I'm sick of being a good influence. I've earned this 😈

Ah, thank you! Glad you enjoyed my first unboxing ☺️
You’re Welcome & Thank You!☺️
I can’t wait to see🍿how your new Beautiful orchids fare during the cold months.
@@litalfrenkel1024 omg you just described snake plants for me 😆 (and I *do* have a huge, beautiful snake plant.....)
Some of us don’t mind looking at the foliage in order to get those beautiful blooms. None of the other plants in ny collection bloom so it’s not out of place.
@@GreenWitch1 I absolutely have wayyy more boring-looking Hoya for their gorgeous blooms, so I'm with you 💯
You may or may not have a career in hand modeling. I would look into it if this whole UA-cam thing doesn’t work out
Are you talking about my (pre) big reveal moment? That will be my legacy.
