    I am 17 and hoping to become an airline pilot with EasyJet and you make such interesting and broken down tutorials/videos on the a320 which have really educated me on airbus planes in general. They are in fact my favourite planes. I now have more of an idea when it comes to go-arounds in the sim, so when I do my next flight, I'll be sure to maybe have a go as a simulated test as a proper go around.

    Really good video Gav. Just a add a few additions.
    > Balked landings are generally performed below 50 ft. Basically anytime after you’ve crossed the landing threshold. Anytime prior to this a normal GA can be performed.
    > Capts can do balked landings on themselves. Even we cock it up at times. 🤦‍♂️
    > Balked landings are usually due to a poor flare manoeuvre or floating outside of the touchdown zone.
    > The take over push button needs to be pressed AND held. This ensures your have complete control authority over the other person. They might still be moving their sidestick causing the input to cancel each other out if you release it. Not really relevant in the sim world.
    > The balked landing may require you to lower the nose! If the nose up attitude is already very high (>9°).
    > You may need to go around on an autoland because the AP has tripped off. In this case, you WILL need to rotate and get away from the ground manually. A big threat when briefing autolands.
    I think that’s it. Apart from that, very nice. 👍

    great video Gav, really interesting procedure. i would imagine the workload from a balked landing would be quite a lot so you need that input from the FO to continue flows while the captain fly's the aircraft, sadly something we don't have so much solo flying. i remember from the livestream when the landing happened trying to work out what has happened takes a split second away from the flying so was a great moment , and handled very well.

      To be fair, I didn't try and work out what happened at the time as I was too busy flying the jet.
      Irl you'd 'feel' the aircraft drop. You don't get that sensation in the sim.
      It was only afterwards when looking back at he reply that I saw what happened.

      Workload can be very high. Fortunately you can tell from about 30 ft whether you’ll be doing it or not. Depending on the experience of the person next to you determines whether you’ll be single pilot for the next minute or two. 😉

    The A320neo plane, when I change the altitude, for example, from 30,000 feet to 10,000 feet, the plane does not respond, but rather continues at the same altitude, while the Boeing 747 responds directly. What is the solution??

    Could you explain or share a video on getting reset on the approach AFTER a go around procedure. For example, if the go around puts you in a hold, my flight plan seems to disappear, so I manually vector myself (when no vatsim ATC online) and then manually enter a direct to the first waypoint on the approach chart.. Not sure if this is correct procedure though. Thanks!

    • @Easyjetsimpilot
      @Easyjetsimpilot  4 місяці тому +1

      There are some circumstances that the flight plan will clear. If you don't go TOGA and enter the GA phase then the flight plan will clear as you cross the runway threshold.
      However the GA flight route should be flown, and then you'll be able to fly the STAR again, starting at a waypoint of your choice. You can go DIR to this if ATC aren't online.

    Is Ground spoilers off? incase of a touchdown that may lead a tailstrike.

    • @Easyjetsimpilot
      @Easyjetsimpilot  7 місяців тому

      No, the ground spoilers only deploy if one main landing gear is on the ground and at least one engine thrust lever is set to REV, so In the case of a balked landing, the spoilers will never deploy.

    I think the definition if I remember rightly is something like, An aborted landing that occurs after the Decision Height, I.e below 50ft in most cases or after touchdown.
    Its usually occurs after a decision to land at minimums.

    • @VmcgHD
      @VmcgHD 11 місяців тому

      It’s generally a manoeuvre performed below 50 ft yes. This is considered the “close to the ground” bit. 😉

    • @AirspotterUK
      @AirspotterUK 11 місяців тому

      Close to the ground is subjective and tells people nothing really , hence me mentioning the height.

    • @VmcgHD
      @VmcgHD 11 місяців тому

      @@AirspotterUK Just checked our manual. It specifically says “during landing from flare initiation until thrust reverser selection”. Which would actually put you in the sub 30 ft height regime. Hopefully that removes any subjectivity for you. 👍
      Ultimately it is usually an instinctive reaction anyway. We’ll just sense something not quite right and react by performing the balked landing procedure. At that sort of height, I’m not looking at the numbers per sé, I’ll just get a feeling it’s not quite right and abandon the landing. Experience comes into play massively. Hence why it’s usually the skipper that does it. 👍

    • @AirspotterUK
      @AirspotterUK 11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the info in regards to your manual.
      I think the difference between our numbers are yours is regarding your aircraft and mine for being for the airport design, and the Baulked landing surface starting from different point, which is designed for the lowest common dominator in aircraft rather than a specific aircraft type.
      Thanks for the chat. Interesting stuff.
      30ft vs 50ft not much in it I guess at the speed your going.

    • @VmcgHD
      @VmcgHD 11 місяців тому +1

      @@AirspotterUK No worries. What does make me laugh with our manual is it still has the possibility to be very subjective. What happens if the FO doesn’t flare? 😳😳
      I’ve not bothered taken that up with our standards team as I know what the answer will be….. “Use your spidy sense and make a safe decision”. 🤣🤣

    • @Easyjetsimpilot
      @Easyjetsimpilot  11 місяців тому

      This is already in there as part of the navigational database. The Fenix A320 simulates this. The A32NX doesn't at the moment.
