Aligning the AM IF, both of them. Grundig Satellit 2100 restoration part 2.

- This radio is particularly good at receiving on the Short-wave bands, so a good alignment is crucial to ensure the best sensitivity and selectivity possible. This is what we tackle in this episode. I must stress that the same procedure, carried out on the previous Satellit 2100 and the Satellit 3400, is presented in much more detail. If you want a reference, these two (especially the Satellit 3400) are best.
Enjoy.

It's nice when the alignment goes smoothly, thanks Manuel 🙂
pleasure 😊
Again a great job Manuel ! Well done like always . So much work on these radios but You did it ! :-)
👍
Top of your game, as always!
thanks
Muito bom grande trabalho parabéns feliz Páscoa
Obrigado José. Boas Páscoas.
Sem dúvidas um grande mestre
Before any IF adjustment, first synchronize the tuning capacitor with the tuning scale. There are dots on each band, which the pointer must correspond to.
No, first I do the IF then the RF alignment.
Respect🎉
Grundig master the IF force is with you, Though I was disappointed you didn't make a Chopstick tuning tool for that one slug. Just teasing Manuel. Great radio adventure
thanks 😊
I have the 2000 and the 2100. (original) restored.. Do you have in your country also 9 KHz IF on AM like here in West Europe? Is there an USA AM IF version with 12 KHz or more? Like to have more bandwidth on AM and SW, because we have here much stations with 12 KHz bandwidth.
I managed to get hold of the same colour service manual that you are using. I noticed most of the stations, even on Medium Wave the S meter didn't go above 3? My 2100 seems to not go much below about 3, I haven't really looked into setting up the tuning meter. Would be great if you could briefly touch on this and its setting up procedure, sometime during the alignment of this radio.
I’ll see what the manual says.
@@electronicsoldandnew many thanks
Has anyone tried recreating the boards with MC1350 IF Preamplifier chips and using SO42P chips for the Mixer and Oscillator and Custom made Crystal Filters to bring it up to spec.
Yet another great video with thoughtful explanation of what is being done. On a side note, why do you think the waveform is distorted on the scope? I've noticed the same behavior on my scope (Siglent SDS1202X-E) at times.
I believe it’s due to underlying mains hum which is caused by the number of stuff I have connected on the workbench. Since the level of the signal is so small (it is capacitively coupled only), this makes it to the signal we see on the scope.
@@electronicsoldandnew Thanks for the explanation, makes sense. I have a power strip on my bench next to IT equipment that feed off the same electrical circuit. Cheers. -Norm
👍
ELECTRONICS OLD AND NEW THE ALIGNING THE AM IF BOTH OF THE GRUNDIG SATLLIT 21100 RESTORATION IS COOL MY HOBBYS ARE PAINTING PICTURES AND LISINING TO SHORTWAVE AND SSB IAM THINKING ABOUT GETTING MY HAM LICENSE I HAVE 4 SHORTWAVE RECEIVERS IAM THINKING ABOUT GETTING SANGEAN ATS 90 9X 2 OR THE TECSUN PL 660 MW LW FM AIR SW SSB 6 BANDS RECEIVER
👍
Seems well aligned and sensitive. The instructions at the point when injecting a signal at C223 were confusing. How are you supposed to send a 460khz sweeped signal through a 10.7mhz filter? A mistake in the manual there I think. I like the design of these Grundigs, even if they seem a little over engineered.
The filter in question is actually tuned to 2MHz, as it is in that IF line. I also believe the instructions are wrong.
I´m curious to see the reason for the weak FM reception
Me too 😊 could be IF tweaking somebody did or something similar to the suggestion you gave me on the 3400, which may be choking the signal somewhere.
Manuel, who was Zelia Camacho the person you dedicated this video to?
My sister in law.
Manuel, just got a 3400 at a bargain price... Well, i expected a nice portable hand radio, to take with me on vacation or around... Well... You just know what popped out... HUGE... :D just need a hand baggage for it on a plane :D
Are 6100 and others a little smaller?
Bye
Yes, they’re a little smaller, but are by no means small 😊 You’re going to love the 3400. It’s a GREAT radio.
@@electronicsoldandnew it's incredible how the things to do are exactly what you did... FM low volume, SW drum blocked, switch Bandbreite to be dismantled and cleaned... Exactly all the same... Wish me luck! :D
Good luck 😊
I would not like to come across someone who has screwed with the IF and RF trimmer screws would be a night mare on this radio to put right.
true
Actually at least your German pronounciation isn't that bad :-)
😊 really?
Really. Native English speakers always have big problems with the "ch" sound as in "Gleichstrom-Abgleich". Seems like the native Portuguese speaker (which I think you are) has big advantages with sounds produced somewhere in the throat. Also they always struggle with the "ei", the "r" and so on.
Actually I speak both Portuguese and Afrikaans as i grew up in south africa. That probably where the accent comes from 😊
