I was just 16 and one of my first jobs was a Bleach Boy and Runner at US 41 Drags Strip in Merrillville IN. I use to go home smelling like burnt rubber and burnt nitro fuel in my nose. My Favorite Racer was the Little Fiat with the 454 called "NO BIG THING".
The Joker and Panty Dropper were pretty stout and good off the line! Boy are sure miss those days. Used to race with a friend at Byron Dragway in Illinois. Miss those days. Keep the videos coming.
So the fact my dad & his buddies built a BB/GD from the ground up, w/a cast iron 392 Hemi, and ran in the low 7's in a 1/4mi (over 220 Win Trophies). Isn't sad again why exactly? I rode in the push car as a kid, and they beat Shirley a number of times before she went to Nitro. My dad has a posterboard for a match race against her. I wish I had one of their chassis and expertise to run the Nostalgia series. Except for my dad, they're all gone now.😔
That Pontiac at 8:26 fooled me. It sounded like it was running badly, and he didn't rev it up much before blasting past the lights and screaming down the strip.
I really love those "57" Chevy's and would love to own one. I know it costs a lot to have a car and race it every weekend hoping to win. all the rest of the older models and Gassers, and everything pre "80's". awesome video posted here, ya gotta love those old school classics, like the ones Don Garlits would ride in. like the rail dragsters, and funny car competition to get in the money at the finish!! also I'm glad I live close to Great Lakes Dragaway.
Good Griefffffffffffffffff, guys do you know what it takes to get a all steel car like The Joker to get in the 8's......listen to that motor and slappin' those gears.....reminds me of me....lol....ain't that Poison Ivy a beauty....Keep'em coming AMC9L
I know that AA/TF and A/FX were the headliners for NHRA in the 1960's but the Gasser Classes were the "Heartbeat" of Drag Racing. Seems like, to me, that NHRA after the 1990's doesn't have that same "Soul" as the 1960's thru 1980's. Something's missing and so are the fans...Sad.
Can someone tell me what the red "tint" to the windows was all about in that gasser? I know it was a thing, and looks great, but never understood if it had a purpose.
What's the deal with the empty grandstands? We used to race brackets at Lion's and get the stands full. Question: Was this 1/8th or 1/4? Looked really short to me.
Man o man do I ever miss those days !!!
Sup bro
I raced almost every weekend at 41 in Indiana when I was 16-18 yrs old. 30 years ago! Wouldn't trade those days for anything
Reminds me of 1970 . . Sitting in the stands with a funnel cake and a coke at my local strip . . . So finneee

I can't imagine the reflexes it takes to herd 2000 horsepower down the track on two bicycle tires.

I don't uaually watch 1/8th racing but these were good, Not quick but still good to watch.

That green Pontiac at 2:36 tho'! A beast!
The Joker and pilot are legit.

Only thing this video is missing is the smell of burning rubber & fuel!
Blue 69 camaro gettin down
Very Nice Pictures !!! What a Camera habe you used?

Anyone know what make and model that is at 5.50?
Passing Gas..
Two questions: 1) Why so many solo runs, and 2) why the empty stands?...
Was that Jungle Pam in this white boots?
Great stuff but surprised the drivers are allowed to run in shirt sleeves in this day and age.
😁♥️👈🇺🇲
THAT IS NOT SKAKE RATTLE AND RUN!!
Never understood the Gasser stance.
