    I like the Cirrothauma murrayi, what an interesting looking octopus. What do they use the cirri for? Feeding I guess, somehow?

    • @beautyforashes2022
      @beautyforashes2022 3 роки тому +5

      Yeah that's a really cool one that I actually haven't seen before. I wonder if it feeds on detritus, like the Vampire Squid. Because they both have cirri, although the Murrayi's cirri look somewhat different... I dunno... Either way, It's all so interesting and I love it.

      Yes, the cirri are finger-like projections that they use to move food towards the mouth and root around the mud. Learn more in this video about another cirrate octopus (in the same family): ua-cam.com/video/5ihBYwxEZLk/v-deo.html

    This is so gorgeous! As a poetically-minded scientist, I watch one for a while, I know they do some sort of activity like, or super substitution for, thinking. I try to think how life would feel down there, with all the space in every direction equally available to roam. What might a creature like down there experience as "nice", in that way, creatures up here experience a sunny day after a string of rainy ones "nice". Tastes in the water probably. Sounds, definitely. Which under-water singers do they enjoy? And do they get annoyed by some fish banging a mussel (sorry, if wrong word) on a stone for hours?
    As an artist I marvel in forms and movements, drink those in and let them get into my art.
    How gorgeous these videos are!

      i've been learning more about cephalopods recently & i've discovered that they don't have good hearing (including octopuses). Some don't hear at all, some only detect vibrations (as close to hearing as they'll get), while some only hear low frequencies. Sorry to spoil your contemplations, but they definitely still have very interesting and lively internal lives and it would be amazing to know how these intelligent creatures experience the world!

    • @Weirdkauz
