Part 1 of the two-part tour of the Soviet IS-7 heavy tank. For discussion, see the following forum threads. North America: forum.worldofta... Asia: forum.worldofta...
"Fire the rear facing guns!" -"Why, sir?" -"Some cowards started running when they saw our driver trying to hit stuff with the front facing guns! They think we've lost control!" -"Well, we did lose control... While our driver is having the time of his life."
And it was probably requested by people who fought in Berlin, and had some experience with driving a tank through the wall (gun facing back) and finding lots of Germans on the other side.
Stalin: "We need new, stronk heavy tonk. Build me one!" Engineer "sure 'fing boss. Wha guns do ye's bosshood wants on the tank?" Stalin: "Put ALLL the guns!" Engineer "Right dat's wot i wants to hear! More Dakka! All the Dakka!" And that's how IS7 was born.
+Stormlord Commander, what are do? Getting on roof gun now will be of suicide! Stavka wants us to bring the dakka, I'll show fascits pigs what REAL Dakka is! Open THE HATCH!

The rear firing machine guns on the turret would do a fine job of encouraging the acompaing infantry by making to the rear of the tank more dangerous than being along side. A very USSR like feature.
@@calvingreene90 So? I knew many Soviet veterans, now what? You described a scene from a propaganda movie that used German leaflets as its source material. Plenty of veterans left memoirs and even interviews available on youtube debunking this fantasy of yours.
Now I got an image of driver going apeshit with MG's and having time of his life while commander shouts and curses in intercoms to get driver stop so gunner can aim at something and loaders can crawl back to their positions.
It is a heavy breakthrough tank, I know, but with all those wacky external machine guns I'm seeing a weird, retro nod to the much more lightly armoured (and already long descredited) Independent Tank/T28 concept. Maybe they just got carried away with the prototypes and the extra mgs would have been left off had it ever gone into full production.
Well, the nice thing is, the Soviets when this tank was designed were huge fans of using tanks as improvised infantry carriers. So you'd probably have a whole squad of people to get shot shooting the tall ass MG
I am Russian and even I think these rear MGs was a bit too much. It looks like engeneers havin' alot of -Vodka- fun makin' this tank. It's like they knew it never face real battlefield.
i think you were overthinking the fixed machine guns, for instance if a tank commander saw infantry approach the tank he could tell the driver to pivot in place and do a 360 firing the machine gun, the same with the turret guns to make the infantry back off from the tank, i just don't see the explanation you were saying, the driver juking the tank back and forth. pull a donut and fire while doing it, kind of like Russian subs doing crazy ivans but in a tank.
This reminds me of the tank designs my friends and I would come up with in JH having no clue about why somethings work on a tank and other things do not .lol
Would you know of any good reference photos/schematics for the layout of the engine bay, or a reference of the marine engine the M-50T is derived from? As I am struggling to find any good references of the engine bay.
TheChieftainWoT that's to bad. The rust on the inside makes it seem like it was left to the elements for a long time. is this the only surviving example in the world ?
Even as am American I have to admit that tank is a work of art in both looks and protection. Gorgeous tank.

The hull and the turret is very stylish.
@Anton Definitely
More dakka? Hah, well played sir, well played...
All Dakka was forward when the travel lock was employed for the cannon. Supremely logical. I'll bet it looked wild during demonstrations!

i just want to imagine the IS-7 firing the machinegun.
Play war thunder and see

Your comment is a very American projecting and propaganda cliches feature.

So the people that used "security" battalions with better weapons and training to force regular army forces to attack and not retreat.
@@calvingreene90
You've seen that in a movie and in a videogame, therefore it's true!
So very pableek ejukayshun American.

I bought a model kit of this tank. I'm looking forward to building it.
Never enough Dakka. Soviets confirmed for orks.

That shot where you can see a long line of IS series tanks going all the way to presumably, the Maus...
The most interesting tank ever...
And MI7 was inspired by the machine guns operated by the driver and designed an Aston Martin around the concept ;)
The IS-7; If brute force didn't work, you didn't use enough.

Which it is.

Hey Chieftain, here is a fella that is planning to build a "What if it actually made it to production" from a Trumpeter IS7 kit.
So the LFP is 50mm thicker than it should be? Typical Soviet Stronk tank from WG.
Thanks Chief!

There was NOTHING on the battlefield in 1949 that could go through the front of this thing lol
Depends how close the battlefield was to the coast 🤣
The Russians starving or dying before they even reach the front is the only thing that can stop it

Freat Christmas gift!
better, old times.
It'd be a KPVT 14.5mm not a KVPT 14.5mm right?

How would the m103 heavy tank have performed against the is tanks?
This was uploaded like 1 or 2 weeks ago on the WoT channel ua-cam.com/video/Hoecf7ovrRM/v-deo.html
massively armoured monster.....keep the fuel in easily shot locations....makes sense
Those who are World Of Tanks players:
Forget it I wont buying it anymore since the driver can dogfight with other tanks using machine gun
Did he say JagdTIGGER?
That's the German pronounciation
I have come to loathe this damn music. LOATHE. I don't even want to check out newer videos for fear this same garbage is being used.
i get the slight feeling you're a very lonely man, yet i envy you. strange how that works.
