  • Learning Welsh songs is a great way of learning Welsh words. Music helps people to remember the Welsh words more easily and the repetition of singing a song over and over is a great way of helping those words to stick in your memory. Another reason for learning Welsh songs is to learn music that Welsh speakers grew up listening to. For example, today’s song ‘Heno Heno’ is lullaby that Welsh parents would’ve sung to their young children before bedtime.

What a lovely lullaby. I did translate "Hen blant bach" as "Old little children," not knowing "hen" carries a "dear" meaning as well. I very much appreciate your translations and ways of explaining the language, Jason.

The first semi Welsh joke I understood was: "Many classical composer are big in Wales, but not Bach".... daft but funny. You mentioning Bach (the composer) reminded me of that joke.

My dad's welsh but I grew up german and a bit disconnected form welsh culture, so even though I didn't know this song it just... hit home :) thank you

This is brilliant! I have a little piano student who loves to sing; this song will fit perfectly with the notes she is studying right now, and she will be delighted with the Welsh words.

This is lovely content. Welsh is very pretty from all I've heard. Considering learning a little through Duolingo and this channel is likely going to be a great resource if I do it.

Question for you, Jason: can "plant" have an extended meaning of "family"? I know that it is the Welsh equivalent of the Irish/Scottish "clann," from which we get English "clan." Perhaps it has that meaning in Old or Middle Welsh, but no longer in Modern Welsh?
I am enjoying your videos very much indeed! Diolch yn fawr!
