My normal go to margarita uses Orange Curaçao with blanco tequila, juice of half a lime and a small squeeze of agave syrup. If I want something more complex, I use anejo tequila and grand marnier. Both are great.

It really is the way to go. You can also mix - I use to use agave and cointreau, and it was perfect balance.
I really like how you presented the distinction between the different orange liqueur brands. Tommy's Margarita wins for me, dependent on the tequila.
