from jinx introduction 27:10 jinx move to the right side. and i notice she (or the director dont break the 180 rule during the fight, even thou so many angle used in the shots.)
Please do Vraks Chapter 1 next
Just recently released W40k
When is your next video
Absolutely love how you immediately knew the pink haired girl wasn't Vi. Only a handful of reactors caught it.
Its so frustrating every time
i'm still so surprised that a lot of reactors didnt pick it up;;
cuz they all just watching. not paying attention.
@@danielwandawn3070 well said
The difference is he has filmmaking experience and knows that it would be a really rushed and lazy reconnection of both characters, so yeah he connected the dots quickly with her being crazy and that stuff, that's what makes his reactions way better than most imo. He's very observant, enough to also associate the time elements with ekko despite not being really that League knowledgeable, dude knows his stuff and appreciates it beyond superficial understanding
Chris: "That's a bit dark, mate."
Me: "Oh, my sweet summer child. We are still at the top of this slippery slope."
The relationship between Silco and Jinx is purely father-daughter and I don’t know why people imply otherwise. Jinx is clingy, child-like and desperate for some sort of familial intimacy, and Silco doesn’t know how to set boundaries or be a typical father due to his trauma. They both are very broken and have formed an unconventional yet beautiful bond of father and adopted daughter.
It’s pretty reasonable to get a little weirded out at that particular scene. Their body language and our knowledge that Silco’s kind of an evil guy is subtly suggestive. I think they intentionally wanted to make the audience uncomfortable there to give the sense that their relationship is close, but not healthy.
On a second watch what you said is totally clear, but we barely know jinx and silco at this point.
@@Meraxes6 The whole scene is basically "We want you to know they're messed up, but we'll make you mistake how exactly they're messed up".
@@Meraxes6 The writers have confirmed this. Their goal was to make their relationship uncomfortable to viewers. I like the direction that they went in
But its both somehow toxic but not entirely meant. Its just, they're broken ig and like lived like they are now because of trauma, which makes this a huge affect to their bond, lots of goods and bad
Difference of culture, in most places having a 16 daughter that's clingy to her father isn't common , and probably considered weird
I don't know why but I just love the detail of her nail polish being uneven or already off at the edge of the nails.
I mean they could have just colored them completely but no they added the detail of it already going off
yeah and it's such a small detail that no one would be like upset about it not existing but they still went that extra mile
I thought it was so neat and I noticed the first time I watched, because I just love paying attention to the smaller details. They really made the animation feel "realistic" and grounded or "flawed" while also keeping a very stylistic aesthetic.
"Script defense" - I usually hear it called "plot armor". Lol
In Star Trek Online they actually have Polarized Lattice-Optimized Tritanium Armor as a trait. 😆
I was thinking the same. Now we've got two terms for that type of story protection. (ah, shoot - there's a third one …)
"She's like Harley Quinn but smart"
People tend to forget that Harley has a doctorate. Unfortunately that tends to include a lot of the writers for her as well.
Implying a doctorate means you're smart.
Harleen might have a degree but Harley, thanks to joker in every version but her original, is crazy in a different way them Jinx. Jinx we understand and feel for her her show is not comedic focused and nether is her character. Harley's character is more tailed to humor and not treated as a part of her in the same way Batman's parents death makes us understand batman's strangeness. It dose not dumb down to Jinx is smart and Harley is not it dumbs down to the writers focuses on Jinx's and how even thought she is seen as crazy she is still a person or better yet an emotionally and phycological stunted girl were was Harley met a guy and her love made her crazy. Harley is treated as a joke by her writers and Jinx is treated with respect and understanding. Jinx is not just made for a gag were as Harley is.
Personally i think it just differs from what they specialize at. Harley has a doctorate and she was a former psychiatrist but because of Joker she has sorta lost that side of her. Jinx on the otherhand is more of an engineer and tinkerer. She plays with alot tech and makes it work. Harley and Jinx are both smart its more of what field they specialize at. Harley is a psychiatrist and Jinx is a tinkerer.
Schnee did a really great comparison/analysis of similarities and differences between Jinx and Harley Quinn: ua-cam.com/video/0BapbNsg5vk/v-deo.html
@@vincentlayug1361 but i might want to add, that Harley is not really a genius, whilst you can apply that term to Jinx, after all, she figures out the Hextech in a very short time with junk to work with, even added to it. I say, if she had been born in Piltover, she would without any doubt be the academies star Pupil.
The song Jinx is listening to in her lair is the song of the first appearance in video of Jinx, some years ago. Search for "Get Jinxed". Basically, she is listening to her own song.
Pretty cool 🔥🔥
He reacted to that very video a year ago so I'm sure he noticed.
Also made my Fortiche even
@@Seergun pretty sure that was their first work with Riot too
>some years ago.
9 years ago - 2013.
Remember how League's website was filled with Jinx doodles as a teaser before the video? Yeah, I feel old.
Holy shit -- that observation on composition for the firelight's entrance. This show has such a ridiculous amount of subtlety. Every shot. Every single shot.
I wonder if it was intended to be a bit thematic as well, entering half in dark, half in the light. We haven't seen the Firelights before and so we aren't sure if they are 'good guys' or 'bad guys'. It is a lovely shot in any case.
@@LobsterSpecial I mean, there's no way a composition that perfectly appropriate was an accident. Especially considering the care and attention they've paid to composition elsewhere.
It's just such a perfect setup -- the firelights exist in this in-between space, outside of and parallel to the piltover-zaun dichotomy.
I mean, it's _drawn._ So yeah, they had to think about and _make_ every single shot.
Estimated about 7 year jump. I think this show took a lot of inspiration from any other properties, but for me, I think in terms of character design, color and shading, it took a lot of inspiration from This Dishonored series of games.
Too true, there is a lot of similarities in Style and asthetics.
Seven years is how I always imagined it. No idea why, it just seemed about right.
Kind of à mix à dihjonnored and bioshock but true
It feels very similar to Dishonored in theme/aesthetic and art style, but more similar to Borderlands tone and humor-wise. I definitely see elements of BioShock, as well. I was blown away the first time I watched Arcane, and it still blows me away.
@@lilscenechick1995 Borderlands humor-wise? How so?
I can't wait for you to experience episode 7. Its one of the biggest masterpieces in storytelling from the beginning of time.
That's true
Best reactor. You pick up a lot of the subtle things correctly.
Here are the estimated ages for some of the characters.
Vi was born in the year 970 AN. - Canon.
Vi was 10 during the intro of EP 1.
Vi was 15 during EP 1 TO 3.
Vi is about 22 during EP 4 TO 9.
Powder/Jinx was born roughly 975 AN.
Jinx was 5 during the intro of EP 1.
Jinx Was 10-ish during EP 1 to 3.
Jinx is about 17-18 during EP 4 to 9.
Caitlyn was born roughly 969 AN.
Cait was 16-ish during EP 1 to 3.
Cait is 23-ish during EP 4 TO 9.
Jayce was born 961 AN.
Jayce was 24 during EP 1 to 3
Jayce is 31 during EP 4 TO 9.
It's 992 AN - 7 Years-ish during EP 4 to 9.
When it comes to "leading the eyes of the viewer", there is one movie that pops into mind:
Mad Max Fury Road.
Such a chaotic mess... but you can follow the action without a problem, because the action guides where you look at and the next action starts right there.
From everything I've read I personally think the time skip is around 7ish years. Jinx (rather powder) looks around 8-9 in act 1 and around 15-16 (17 at the absolute oldest) in act 2 which makes perfect sense
Powder was around 11 in act 1. Now she is 17-18. Timeskip is indeed 6-7 years.
@@AppleBaron Yeah. The show's creators have confirmed this.
@@AppleBaron I completely agree, this was confirmed by the creators, but to be more precise, she was 11 years old in the first act, then the timeskip was 7 years old, and in the second act she was 18 years old. But what actually amuses me is the fact that some people think that she is 15-16 years old...
9:40 For me, their dynamic is like a having Twin Brother. Or maybe a Mirror, Silco sees himself in this young girl, Powder, they are two people that were broken for being betrayed for the one that their loved most [For Silco was Vander, for Powder, Vi].
It's just funny how fucking obvious it was that Chris was gonna enjoy this to the brim (if that's English, hell if I know, I'm a god damn Frenchie).
Can't wait for him to see the rest :)
I do stage theatre and don't really know much about film. I gotta say, you're so educational even for someone who isn't even an enthusiast necessarily. Great job teaching.
I'm kinda surprised that You missed the whole sequence with Sevika going to The Last Drop.
he cant show the whole episode or the vid will get taken down
he watched the whole episode, its just not shown cuz itll get taken down like the other person says.
Also it would be over one hour if he showed all of it and on top give the analysis.
I really like how fast you saw that the girl with the pink hair isn't Vi and made a theory who the firelight leader is.
And while I like your concept of the green trail that the hoverboards have, it's not really applicable here. The hoverboard are powered by chemtech, like almost anything in Zaun.
That's why Zaun always has this green hue.
Jinx is sweet and psycho. This duality is what makes her interesting and dangerous, because you never know who you will see. Every time she switches, she moves the story forward.
Harley Quinn is just a histrionic rebel, and she is very constant in that, she never changes, and this trait is irrevelant to move the story forward.
Jinx is quite deranged sometimes, but there is a certain logic within her derangement, and that humanizes her.
I believe it has been 10 years, so it's been a very long time and things have certainly changed as you can tell. The dynamic between Jinx and Silco is father/daughter, but keep in mind that both of them are damaged so it is not what most people would feel is normal. Jinx especially is still mostly in a touch starved child mindset, despite being ingenious with a lot of things she is still immature and unstable in equal measure.
6-7 years*
7 I think is the offical unofficial time skip.
@@bridgethaines7127 not unifficial, it is said by the characters as well. Once for sure when Vi talks about being in prison for 7 years.
@@Kat-qf7ov Vi never said that. The info about 6-7 timeskip comes from the twit of one of the Arcane writers Amanda Overton.
@@AppleBaron are you sure? I will rewatch it when I have the time. Idk, my mind might have made up that memory after reading it somewhere then. I could swear I remember them mentioning it, but now you made me question it.
7:30 they're called poros! They're found all over Runeterra, but notably from Freljord, the northern region, and the champion most associated with them is Braum.
They so cute and puffy, I want them as pets
7:00 I couldn’t agree more. She’s perfect
As McDonalds employee I can tell you that the milkshake/ice cream machine needs to go through a heat cycle once a day which lasts several hours, and we also need to wash the milkshake tubes. It needs maintenance, guys.
I love about Arcane that if you know a little bit about each character you will notice a lot more things in the series which makes the whole experience much more interesting.
The animation is insanely polished love the pushed poses ,Fortische did amazing
Just "Fortiche" brother, which btw is a familiar way to say "strong" (Fort = Strong) (sound like "Fortish" for an english speaker) ;)
the song she listens to in this video before Silco arrives is "get jinxed" from her promotional video for Lol
The words you are looking for on minute 20 for the shift of the camera on the firelights is that "By shifting the camera with the subject you make the audience join the character in the action instead of keeping the camera stationary which would have divided you from them."
You were right about the name of the city in FF9, Lindblum and the ruler of the city was named Cid
Great reaction and great breakdown! Very interesting to see.
I'm shocked at some of the stuff you are guessing wich most reactors don't get as good :D
everyday im coming here to his channel to see if episode 5 reaction is already uploaded ;n; love ur videos
When Jinx fired that minigun of hers after she fired her handgun, she froze because of the flashbacks and she's scared and angry because she lost control of her self and that she might have shot Vi, you can see that on her face, in her eyes and how she breathes.
Also, the mini-gun`s named "Pow-Pow" after Vi`s childhood nickname for her which is why that`s the gun she uses when her trauma is triggered.
Watching your videos really has given me a new appreciation for the talent of the animators and artists. Insane!!!
Chris: "Because they have the green coloured accent to them, they're good guys."
Thresh, Urgot, Pyke, Amumu, Twitch, Zyra, Tahm Kench, Maokai, and Fiddlesticks: "Yes... good..."
I don't think amumu is a bad guy
@@Voouse Morally? Maybe not. But I'm pretty sure his in-canon body count is higher than most other champions.
@@wjhull There isn't much information about amumu and with his curse, you could be right about that, but if we look at the story ''Greed and Tears'' we can see that amumu never hurt anybody intentionally
A lot of those characters have changed though;
Fiddlesticks is now black/red
maokai is brown
Zyra is pink
Pyke is blue
Fiddle is red now! Yes, though. Green connotations in League are more often than not associated with evil factions like old Noxus before Swain took over through Mordekaiser, Riven's sword, etc, and factions like the Shadow Isles with green and teal through Thresh, Yorick, and now Viego.
The hallucinations are fully voiced, I didn't realize it the first time I watched Arcane, but in a react video you could tell what the hallucinations are saying it's just slowed down and distorted.
Who else can’t wait for the « then these walls come tumbling down» scene from episode 6?
Isnt it WHEN these walls come tumbling down?
I can't believe myself I forget about this amazing show , thanks for the reminder
the little fluffy pet of Heimerdinger is called a "Poro".
The whole show is so full of the whole diagonal lines things, it's crazy. There's like 16, 17 instances of it in 9 episodes. It's film making at its absolute peak.
The music video for Misfit Toys really shows how cool the firelights are
The amount of drip on this man is outstanding
A thing about all fight scenes I saw in Arcane: the intention is put me inside the scene, having the perspective of someone that is participating at some way. So there is sudden cuts, focus losses, focus acquisitions, distractions and general chaos.
A particular fight scene (in next episodes so I can't offer spoilers) inside a building uses two cameras in and out the building: one to show the POV of someone IN the fight, and occasionally cut to the outside camera to show the perspective of someone watching from street.
Idk if you noticed or not because you were finishing your thought but the scene in jinx room, she was listening to "get jinxed" the league of legends music cinematic you reacted to a while back
It’s good to see that you really love Arcane’s Jinx as much as I do
Great reaction/analysis as always!
Huh, interesting analysis of Firelights revealing shot. In a way Firelights stuck between Peltover's enforcers, sort of representing light, and Silco's goons, looming over them with darkness. Kinda cool visual metaphor.
Awesome to see another video from you! Hope you're doing well, do you have any more film projects you're working on at the moment? 😁
I am absolutely loving your review videos of arcane. You go very in depth and give a lot of interesting information in the process. It really is an amazing series and it is awesome to get the creative perspective.
Hi man, love these videos, keep up the great work!
those designs are now in the game. but the were a limited time ONLY and they are skins in the game to overlay on the original charater in LOL.
"That was perfect." Yesss.
Awesome reaction! Love your episode breakdown too.
From what I heard saying the machine is broken is also easier than for example saying that it's currently being cleaned (again ...)
Hey Man! You really should consider making merch
Loved the video mate, yet I shall remain as vigilant as I ever have since the cataclysm reaction. You should react to the Warframe Prime Trailers specifically Valkyr, Banshee, and Nekros or all of them actually!!!
your vigilance has been noted :)
Yea the Firelights have a definite psyco from borderlands vibe, minus the whole "psyco" part.
"Oh, she's so cute!"
*IMMEDIATELY murders 2 men in cold blood*
...right.
20:35 you can compare cutting a lot with intention, and cutting too much..
cutting too much is like Jason Bourne fight scene, and Liam Neeson when jumping one fence in 5 second footage, with 10 camera angle all used in final production. (i forgot the name of the movie)
Taken 3
really glad you're taking your time on this ne to really break down some scenes!
That cute little white animal is called Poro! And if you didn't fall in love with him at first sight, you don't have a soul anymore. lol
Naah i need more of this cant wait that long. Love your videos keep it up ❤🙏
Ekko is around Powder's age in act 1, and Jinx is certainly grown up now so it would actually make perfect sense that so would Ekko.
@ChrisConnorFilms did you happen to see or react to the Bridging The Rift Series, showcasing the behind the scenes of making the series?
Also, could you react to the season 2 trailer released last week? The new season's coming out in November.
How everyone seems to flinch when Jinx is stabbing the needle into Silco´s eye xD I don´t mind it that much, but maybe that´s because I´m used to using contact lenses^^
I´m just now realizing how many times they showed us the pocket watch, it´s like they constantly dangled it in front of our eyes to make sure we don´t forget it xD
It´s amazing how many different cuts there are, and how differently they can be used. One one hand in these incredible fight scenes and on the other one Jinx´s disturbing mental instability. For a while I wondered if she had Mylo´s corpse there, but the more often I rewatched it the more sure I got it´s not the case^^ still unsettling, though, how she keps them as her company :/
It's not Mylo's actual corpse though. It's a training robot dressed as Mylo. In the still frame, we can see it's robotic parts. The doll wearing Claggor's goggles is very real though. The implication is that she took his goggles off his body.
@@SSD_Penumbra The goggles were blasted off of him in the Explosion. But thx for pointing out that she had to go back to their corpses to get to them, I missed that. I always asked myself how she could see their dead bodies in her flashbacks if she never saw them. But yeah she went back, pretty tragic.
Cuts during action scenes gives pace to the action. Pacing can be done with actors, or with editing.
Man can't wait to see your reaction to chapters 6 7 and 9... there are so many direction jewels in here
A youtuber ( I believe it was Toonaholics) pointed out that the colors for the characters is better represented by anime rather than hollywood films, where red/orange is the good guys (Vi), blue/purple are the bad (Jinx), and green is for the characters in between that can be seen as both, the firelights being seen as bandits, misfits, and hoodlums to both sides, Piltover and the Undercity.
I recall the video. Reds used for heroes, blues for villains, and greens for secondary heroes (Rock Lee and Piccolo were examples). That pattern only holds for anime, usually, since red and blue are usually seen as the opposite in the West, but it applies to Arcane really well.
Yeah it was lindblum on ff9. With all the airships. :D
I believe that there was a legitimate investment in make every, every frame in every second on Arcane a work of art, a painting that could be on a wall.
The colors, the angle, the lights (and light colors) the scenes, the framing and the general composition, is perfect every moment you can pause the show.
thanks god the video is not jumping all over again, that makes it more easy to enjoy. There are so many monents i would mind watching an hour long video xD
I only just noticed that Vi's prisoner number was 516. which is amazing because 5 = V, 1 = I and 6 = VI in roman numerals I noticed the tattoo and number symbolism 1st watch but not the link to the prisoner number.
Chemtech is green so they were forced into the color choice, and seemed to have went with Shimmer/Purple is bad Zaun, Old Chemtech/Green is Good Zaun, Blue is Good Piltover and Purple is bad Piltover. It's more like green/blue vs purple. They really put on a display with color and so much subtle foreshadowing that allows a second or third viewing to pick up all the things you miss the first time through.
Nothing tops the wow cinematically quality
In the first 5 minutes of her re-introduction, Jinx racks up a body count of five kills.
Hey chris good work on this video I love your work and I would love to see you analyze apex legends new cinematic for the character mad Maggie
Hi, you should react to world of warcraft warbringers!! It's a different style of what you've seen in the other cinematics!!. There are 3 videos that kind of explain the life of characters like Jaina, Azhara and Sylvanna.
20:50 Just watched John Wick 4 and felt this exactly with the first fight where it just felt really long and droning.
yes, the art asthetic is very similar to Borderlands. aaaaalmost oil paintings brought to life.
*SMALL SPOILER WARNING!*
A cool little touch of detail/foreshadowing when Sevika confronts Jinx on the ship 👌🏽👌🏽
You can hear a loud sound as they stare at each other (I'm not talking about the Piltover alarm sound), and unless you've already seen Episode 5 youd have no idea what that sound is... but rewatching after seeing the whole show you can see a purple light appear under her cape thing on her 'arm' as that sound plays
I thought it was cool because it was a subtle reveal of a characters weapon/ability as well as immediately establishing to the audience that Silco's group is already tired of Jinx's shit, and that Sevika was ready to fight her right there
That was sevika growling at jinx in anger
@@eianfederle2715 nah man watch it again
I don't wanna spoil your spoiler, but we've seen Savika's arm getting blown away in Ep.3, and now there is something hidden under her coat.
So surely we should be able to connect the dots, and I don't mean the purple ones on Savika's face …
What I was more interested in: How did Silco keep Savika in check through the years facing that Jinx was it who cost her the arm in the first place …?
even with the timeskip ,they are still young compared to where is the lore in league
League's timeline and Arcane's is weird. By League's timeline, Jinx is in her mid to late 20s and vi's in her mid 30s, as is Cait. Jayce is near 40 and vik is close to 50.
Arcane's timeline is Jinx is around 17/18, Vi, cait and Jayce are in their mid to late 20s and vik is closer to 30.
I don't play the game, but your attention to detail... If there's only one with a watch, I'm guessing your guess is correct. It's a detail I didn't notice.
The way I've described Jinx is that she's the complete psycho version of Tony Stark, a master at creating devastating weapons from basically nothing, and literally re-engineering the miracle inventions of Jayce and Viktor, in a cave lol
damn it conner. said the material word.... now i gotta replay ff7 again
I think but not sure, green is the shimmer they use to power mechanics.
I kinda like the colors theory about good and evil...
But for the players, we all know that green is just toxic elements that piltover through to the undercity. And the smart ppl of Zaun use some of those dangerous things as energy.
That smile when you see Viktor using the arm....
green was heavily established as the color of chemtech, the color of zhaun, called undercity here. i think this is really really old and not inspired by star wars more by nuklear warning signs ;-).
PLEASE REACT TO EPISODE FIVEEE. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
When she is tinkering you can hear her them song get jinxed playing.
Interesting think about colors in Star Wars is that whole yes, green lightsabers are good and red are bad, the Empire has green laser weapons and the Rebels have red.
damn... I guess Chris is really into FF :D
Guilty mate :)
Final Fantasy has had a huge influence on video game culture. It's pretty iconic.
@@Goujiki oh yea I know :D
