Very nicely done. I'm 72 and spent a lifetime restoring cars with the date coded spark plug wires, matching numbers, correct hose clamps, etc. Then afraid to drive it so the frame won't get the Phoenix dust on it. Decades of foolishness. Love your builds. They are fun, creative and you actually drive them every day. Now I only do rat rods with the exception of when I build motorcycles, mainly Panheads that are daily drivers. Also, love the LS especially in this application.

If we want to see danged-near perfect metal work, there's this Newfie we could watch. But we're here, watching Brent and Pablo and a 1955 Chevy becoming a Napco. Or as close to one as needs be. Sometimes, good enough is exactly what is needed, and entirely satisfying. Great job rebuilding that passenger-side cab. There was almost nothing left, and now it's ready to go. Looking forward to the slightly easier fix on the driver side in a few days.

I am fascinated watching the fabrication of these patch panels... Believe me people, doing this kind of repair is not as easy as Brent makes it look. Simple - yes; easy - no way... This guy is a wizard while doing sheet metal fabrication... Of course he has years and years of experience in doing this. He also has a genius-level eye for seeing how this will come together and can visualize the pieces needed to patch the next part of the hole... Trust me, it is not easy.. Showing us how it is done is a fantastic service to the hobby. Most people with some welding capability will eventually get the job done when someone shows them the way. Its going to take much longer and will not be as neat and pretty, but being able to use a welder and a grinder can make most of use look pretty good - as long as you don't get real close..

I totally agree with you on all matters Brent is a genius mentally as well as emotionally when it comes to disecting 'n rearranging metal that is expected to stay together at ratical paces. He has years I guess from the age of 15 maybe even before that cutting Cars and welding them bits 'n pieces together ain't no easy or simple task. Good on you Brent I watch most if not all of your shows that I can watch just as an interest because your mind has that capturing device.

Hey Brent, I just love the Simplicity of those old trucks a couple of bolts in the whole front cap comes off I mean what more could you ask for. It's a damn shame, the vehicles that are being made today are so complicated although yeah they get better fuel mileage will sure they're made out of beer cans. We are in the throwaway age and it just breaks my heart, thank God that there's people like you on UA-cam that just simply make things work. Thanks for sharing I can't say that enough!

OSPHO you can get it in st thomas USVI . Haven’t seen it in the states.
It’s phosphoric acid. Spray it on rust and it turns iron oxide into iron phosphate. Bridge painters use it .
      Makes rust vanish.

You're getting better and better and better at rust repairs. I don't know if you're noticing it, but from an outside perspective, since i've started watching, this repair here is miles from the first ones i saw.
To me, this is the best part about YT videos, seeing someone evolve. You're never getting that without apprenticeship with someone, teaching or working with others. TV don't care about this kind of stuff, and is therefore soulless and boring.

Oh, this pieced tin-knocking looks all too familiar. I spent hours doing this back in High School - part of what paid for College! It'll get done, be strong (enough) and look like (bleep) - but it WILL get the job done, and that's all that counts. If it's covered, and whether by another panel or bondo doesn't matter, all looks good in the end.
One thing - if the tail of that bulge is the heater box, remember that your cowl vent IS how you get cold air in the heater plenum: if there's no way to close it up you'll get cold this winter.
Lookin' good. As always, thanks for the good work and interesting content 😎

Where you chop out the cancer and surgically insert solid steel welded in place. “Who the heck cares what it looks like, no one will be able to see it anyways” is the best line in the video. THIS is the video I have been waiting for!!! I have a '58 Apache 3100 that I have been wondering what to do with. I am absolutely positive that I will encounter the same rust issues you did - possibly worse. However, your plan of attack is exactly what I intend to follow - with the twist of finding another donor cab so I can make a smaller crew cab version of The General. Either a diesel RAM or an LS Chevy truck frame is the route I plan to take. Between your General build videos and this current series, I hope to be able to pull something off that is almost close to your excellent fabrications. Thanks again!!!

Brent, years ago my late brother in law pointed out when we were doing cancer removal on my car at the time to drill some large holes (the size of a naked hose end) in the bottom of the doors fenders and areas that sand, dirt and crapolla build up
Paint over the drilled holes to seal them up against them rusting
When you wash your car go around the drilled holes and shove the holes in each and wash the dirt out the sun usually dries the inner fenders etc out fairly quickly
From that point on I never had the bottoms of panels rusting out. In your case with snow maybe you could plug the holes with some sort of rubber plug removing them when a clear out is needed.

I would two tone the body after the body work and rust repair, and in then, if you don't like the new truck look, but I think you will, but if it not, you could always antique it...I like the challenge of shaping body parts, I've used everything from broomsticks to angle iron and even threaded rods and different size dowels. I've got quite a collection of fabrication things. And I've always been able to recreate and sometimes even improve the stock parts. The trick is, after forty years of practice, when it's all put back together, there's that beautiful silence of solidness, without any rattles. Kinda like a body restomods, lol. I really enjoy taking these old rusty rigs and turning a profit by making someone's dream car or truck. I've had a few years, I made more than when I working, before I retired. In My credo is, don't be a fool, use the right tool! It makes things go much smoother!!! Also, before welding it in permanent, I always tack it first, saves a lot of time grinding if a lightbulb goes off and I get a better idea and fabricate a better patch.

Hey Brent. After you get all the rust cut out of something like that stuff behind and on those fenders,if you can get rust converter into everywhere you can, it will definitely help keep those places from rotting back out as fast. That stuff does actually convert the rust back into steel. When I first tried some of it back in the day i sprayed some rust with it then ground down into it and the rust was gone, and that is how I saw how good it works. I'm surprised that more people don't know about or use it. Alright man,Later. P.S. You're doing a awesome job as usual.

Fixed. They had multi ton presses when they built it. You don't need it to look the same. Just be strong. 👍

Winter is coming and this one seems to be moving at warp speed. This will be done quickly. Your wife will need more than your regular 4x4 step to get into it. Can't wait for whatever your big winter project will be.
Being from the Rust Belt, I can't believe you get 1/2 of the screws out that you do.
