Have no idea how I ended up on this video but this shit is what I’ve been looking for for so long. Love the aesthetic of these logos but had no idea what they were called. God bless you UA-cam recommended gods.
if youre gonna use the vector file i wouldnt use the blend method, when u zoom in it wont be a smooth line, its better to just duplicate the text, position it like he did here. and then with the pen tool connect the edges, if u dont know where to put your lines u can do the blend, put that on a low opacity, and trace the lines where the letter and shadow connect.
Yeah, that's the way I would have done it. The pen tool is a godsend. No need to spend a few minutes on a single step when it could take you literal seconds with the pen tool.
Thank you so much for this explanation, I've been seeing these logos everywhere, and I honestly didn't even know there was a name for them! This helps a lot!
Glad I was able to help! Feel free to drop a comment if you need any more help. On my channel you can find many more tutorials that are hopefully just as useful!
no idea what this style was called but I've been wanting to learn it for a while and then boom, this video pops up 😳. That UA-cam algorithm is...scary lmao. Appreciate the informative video !
I like how you explain the hotkeys and stuff while showing us what it do/es on illustrator, other tutorial was like "hey watch me do this" then blah blah while I was "how tf he do that?" I just subbed. thanks for this
@@Dreadlabs oh btw you got an idea how they do those alien looking typography? I saw it mostly on cyberpunk themes, i think they call it two-dimensional or something.
Coming from ps cs3 user (i used potato laptop before my current laptop), I was overwhelmed by the Ai features, and your explanation of what things do really help me trying to get a grasp of what Ai does, you just got a new sub from me !
I was hoping to find the origins of this type of style because of the title. My only lead is that it has something to do with rave posters and mid 90s-early 2000s Tokyo.
I am using the translator Thanks for the video, it was very helpful for me and I had a lot of fun trying to do it! The result of my logo is pretty cool hahaha! Hugs and thanks directly from São Paulo, Brazil!
Great video! I learned a lot, I just have a qq. I am trying to make a two words logo and when I come to the part of clicking the minus front bottom, the second word disappears. Is there any way to avoid this or I just have to work the 2 words separately?
I'm very new to illustrator, whenever I create a compound path or blend etc it doesn't automatically create it on a new layer, it still works just not on a new layer any advice would be appreciated :)
@@Dreadlabs quick reply! thanks! also I followed all the steps, 3 times, but my stars only overlap the opposite way from yours :( any clue what i did wrong? thanks!
I have a problem. After clicking the unite button in the pathfinder tab, when I try to click the compound path button it doesn't let me. Can someone help me.
I had trouble making the white text transparent, it makes most of my letters black and leaves some of them white. Also I can’t drag the text off the screen otherwise they will “fall off”. Great vid otherwise!
Can anyone find the BTE Sporty font? Can't find it anywhere!
Like I said in the video, it’s discontinued sadly :(
placing my comment here so it notifies if anyone finds it
i was going crazy looking for it, found NAKAMURA, now i have 2 fonts i cannot use for resale, and i can't find one of them :(
@@gabobo same
@@formerlycringe I think you are in a right direction NAKAMURA font might be your best bet on getting that look with added work of course

TIL they're called Y2K logos; I know they weren't the first to use them, but I've always thought of them as Wipeout/Jet Set Radio logos.
I think the logo’s are probably most known from the Wipeout series!
both games come exactly from that era
Its because they are part of Y2k aesthetics, from the late 90s and early 00s era, and jet set radio used that aesthetic.
that's because those are y2k games, so it makes sense they use y2k logos
@@caerxhan8313 wipeout is from the 90s
the only actual explanation on what makes a y2k logo. making history right here bro! well done
Thank you so much bro! ❤️

AGREED
I was thinking the same thing. Much more optimal objects that way. Touching anything with that many anchor points is nauseating.

been looking for a good logo instruction on y2k style, couldn't find any and here u are a few weeks later making a perfect tutorial

You should do a tutorial of how you made your intro! The texture and text ✨love your style btw
Thank you so much! I actually already have a breakdown of my intro in After Effects on my channel. You can find it on my Motion Design playlist!
I've been dying to find a video about breaking the design of a Y2K logo, until you showed up and covered it.
Thanks for uploading.
I have been glued on illustrator the last week trying to figure this out and boom you drop a tutorial 😤

cool video, helped alot but im not sure on how to make the white on the stars transparent
i love you
mean while i think about Y2k (the computer thing in 2000)
the video is good but the resolution of your monitor is pretty big... in smallest monitors I cant read the menus
When I make the blend object the text connects from the top and it looks really bad what can I do about it, I’m a beginner 🙏🏽
Select the 2 bottom objects before making it a blend!
Awesome tutorial!🔥🔥🔥
and how i overexposed some on a pic? for example: a person is totally lighty with grain but the background is the same without a single change?
wouldve wished the video is tru to its title and talked about design aspects of y2k logos and not a how-to tutorial on some fonts
I literally explain in the video what stylistic choices you have to make in order to have a logo look like this distinct style lmao
but how do you make the stars transparent like the text?
Outline the strokes and then the quickest way is the shape builder tool!
@@Dreadlabs quick reply! thanks! also I followed all the steps, 3 times, but my stars only overlap the opposite way from yours
