In this video I'm sharing a couple of secrets that a lot of people use to either make Y2K style logos, or how people make their logos look Y2K - ish. You've probably seen techniques like these used by designers such as Hvnter. You can also find the logo's in the Wipeout Games. These effects are done in Illustrator but if you're good with photoshop you can probably mimic most of the things I'm doing in this video.

i was going crazy looking for it, found NAKAMURA, now i have 2 fonts i cannot use for resale, and i can't find one of them :(

TIL they're called Y2K logos; I know they weren't the first to use them, but I've always thought of them as Wipeout/Jet Set Radio logos.
I think the logo’s are probably most known from the Wipeout series!
both games come exactly from that era
Its because they are part of Y2k aesthetics, from the late 90s and early 00s era, and jet set radio used that aesthetic.
that's because those are y2k games, so it makes sense they use y2k logos

no idea what this style was called but I've been wanting to learn it for a while and then boom, this video pops up 😳. That UA-cam algorithm is...scary lmao. Appreciate the informative video !
if youre gonna use the vector file i wouldnt use the blend method, when u zoom in it wont be a smooth line, its better to just duplicate the text, position it like he did here. and then with the pen tool connect the edges, if u dont know where to put your lines u can do the blend, put that on a low opacity, and trace the lines where the letter and shadow connect.

I was thinking the same thing. Much more optimal objects that way. Touching anything with that many anchor points is nauseating.
Yeah, that's the way I would have done it. The pen tool is a godsend. No need to spend a few minutes on a single step when it could take you literal seconds with the pen tool.

I was hoping to find the origins of this type of style because of the title. My only lead is that it has something to do with rave posters and mid 90s-early 2000s Tokyo.

I'm very new to illustrator, whenever I create a compound path or blend etc it doesn't automatically create it on a new layer, it still works just not on a new layer any advice would be appreciated :)

I had trouble making the white text transparent, it makes most of my letters black and leaves some of them white. Also I can’t drag the text off the screen otherwise they will “fall off”. Great vid otherwise!

and how i overexposed some on a pic? for example: a person is totally lighty with grain but the background is the same without a single change?

Great video! I learned a lot, I just have a qq. I am trying to make a two words logo and when I come to the part of clicking the minus front bottom, the second word disappears. Is there any way to avoid this or I just have to work the 2 words separately?
