    When people make extreme statements like this truck is trash or crap, it's usually because they are brand loyal and do not want to acknowledge the efforts of others. The truth is that this is a great truck, if it's not for you it's ok to be honest about it, but please don't try to stretch reality to massage your own egotistical biases.

    I got an 09 and love it. While Nissan is not the best at anything, it is good at everything. While is not the most powerful truck, I towed another car on a trailer from PA to TN without a hiccup. Not the best MPG on the market but I still average around 15 on the highway. Its been very dependable with no issues at closing 100K miles, just change oils periodically. I am happy with my titan so far. I know is going to break soon or later but at least it went to the whole 6 years until paid off without even changing spark plugs. That's reliability in my book and that's what I want on a truck.

      I've got an 05 with 240000 miles on it. It's been phenomenal truck. I tow a 20ft bass boat at least twice a week on average and have had issues whatsoever. I average about 16 mpg empty and about 13 towing. I've got zero complaints. Definitely top two on my list for next truck. The only other truck I've really been considering is the F150.

    Funny how I just watched U guys take a 6.2 litre Chevy up the same hill and with the same weight, and its performance was no better yet it shined! Then U took the same Chevy downhill and it had 3 more brake events, yet your subjective scores were better for the Chevy, the Titan is cheaper and has a better warranty, WTF?

      It’s called business the nature or business. When a channel grows to the lengths that TFL has money gets involved. Advertising and marketing dollars from the manufacturers come in to play. Happens in all media outlets. Car and driver motor trend truck trend etc. about MONEY. What you have to take away from TFL and other outlets as they’ve proved is in today’s market the margin and gap from truck to truck is VERY narrow. There is no bad truck today one is not better than the other. There’s a truck for everyone’s needs. Depends on yours an what you like as to what you buy. I like these new titans. I had a 2008 and a 2014 Pro-4x. They were stout but I could no longer swing 50-60 bucks every week in Gas. Their mpg was to horrible for my daily driving. I’ve also had a 05 and 06 Silverado 5.3. Great trucks and got a consistent 20 mpg highway and combined 16-17. I currently drive a 14’ Silverado. I love the new 5.3 and it’s power vs the cats eye gm 5.3. But I miss the seats the most in my 05 and 06 Silverado they were like lazy boy recliners! Swallowed ya up! It’s like my salesman said in reference to the titans since forever in 2004 forward they’ve been the best kept secret in the truck world! Sure they don’t sell the numbers of GM or Ford but they’re every bit as good a truck.

      @@jew0182 Well said! Todd Grant point is very valid! 5.3 is one of the most fuel efficient v8's you can buy. I had 07 Yukon. Now I have 18 Titan. Fuel efficiency in the Titan (2nd Gen) is about same as Ford 5.0, Ram 5.7 and the GM 6.2. We got two of them in our Fleet up at work. The Ford is 16 and Ram is 15. These newer trucks are fantastic at towing. There nothing like older 1/2 tons. Pulling my 5000lb trailer is nothing for my Titan. That's above 5K ft. My old Yukon struggle but it worked. Just had to take it slow...

    Odd that the tow mirrors aren't on the Platinum Reserve? The tow mirrors are part of the towing or utility packages on the SV, Pro 4X, & SL trims. Also... did I hear Mr. Truck correctly? "I'm disappointed in the performance. I like the engine and transmission". Why not more than 16 points? Was it the number of brake applications? The RPMs? Can you at least let us know what the negatives were? "Performance" is a pretty generic term, especially when you follow it up with saying you like the engine and trans.

    So overall results between the 2016 F150 5L GAS, 2016 Ram 5.7, 2016 Silverado 5.3 8/speed, and this, all towing 9,000 lbs:
    2016 Ram 5.7: 9-Brake apps down hill, 7:44 uphill time, 3.0 MPG
    2016 Silverado 5.3 8 speed, 10 Brake apps downhill, 8:08 uphill time, 3.2 MPG
    2017 Titan 1500 5.6, 9 Brake apps downhill, 8.08 uphill and then adjusted to 8:12 to compensate for traffic??? Meaning you guys were going too fast or why was time added when usually adjusting for traffic means the time should've gotten quicker since the hwy would've been more congested?
    2016 F150 5.0 GAS, fewest brake app, 8:14 uphill 3.8 MPG
    A big difference is the shape of the trailer, Titan is pulling a box while the other 3 had a more aerodynamic trailer so that'll throw off the MPG reading on the Titan for the worse. Other than that, aside from the RAM, the Titan's performance is comparable to the Ford and Chevy's.

      @djayt1215 7 років тому +1

      Kirk Jacobson idk how exact the 8 min is for the control speed. You also have to take into consideration that there is additional time to accelerate to 60

    • @kirkjacobson8457
      @kirkjacobson8457 6 років тому +1

      Unless the "gauntlet" is less than 8 miles long it is mathematically impossible to get a time under 8 minutes without cheating and going faster than 60 MPH with some trucks. I understand they do their tests in the real world with a real person driving so this isn't a criticism of TFL. I'm just saying you should ignore times under 8 minutes and assume it was just an 8 minute run with generous acceleration.

    My two cents. If I needed to tow 9-10,000lbs up a mountain pass, I would not be buying a half ton - from any brand. I would be buying a diesel. For all the smack-talkers, keep in mind this test is pushing the Titan beyond it's limits, yet it still performed. This truck is perfectly capable for what it's intended.

  • @sic22l
    @sic22l 7 років тому +1

    I think it got slowed down by the gearbox ratios. RPM gap was too big, the engine was powerful enough to accelerate past 60mpg but the next gear was 2000 rpm lower and there was not enough toque (naturally aspirated engine) to keep the speed.

  • @Titantramp4u

    I own a 2004 Titan...a truck which at that time was pretty innovative...and the 5.6 had all the other 1/2 ton trucks covered... time marches on. My truck now has about 160,000 miles and still runs great and tows great but all the other trucks passed it by IMO.
    Every top truck out there has at least 400 lb/ft of torque along with the interior may be be nice but I think the big 3 trucks have it covered.
    I'm old enough to laugh at "It's struggling to keep up"...It may be struggling to keep up with the other top contenders on the Ike, BUT towing 9,000 lbs up a 7% grade at altitude at 60 mph???....it wasn't so long ago when the 454 ruled the hills and it wasn't towing at that level!
    Waiting to see how the 2017 Raptor with it's 4.10 gear eats up the Ike...

    My final thoughts. Although the Titan is a great truck in XD form Nissan should scrap the XD portion, throw in 8lug axles tune up the suspension and rebadge as a light weight HD with tow capacity of 16,000lbs. Not to compete with the domestics but an alternative with better ride and handling. Domestic buyers buy with the dicks hanging out and u have to market to that mentality

    I don't know that the Ike is the toughest. Yeah you've got a serious lack of oxygen, and a decent grade, but no heat. The 87 from Phoenix to Payson is what GM used to use for many towing tests when their proving grounds were down in Mesa. Believe me, the heat in the summer adds a whole new dimension to towing on grades with a heavy trailer. El Cajon pass in CA is no slouch either in the summer. But, your tests are consistent which is nice.

    Just bought a 2017 Nissan Titan. Got it home and noticed the stamped
    channels on the roof of the cab, are seriously crinkled/dented. Nissan
    said this is the way they were designed and offered no refund/ fix.
    Other vehicles have a molding/weather striping. Look very carefully
    before you buy. Nissan will do nothing for you after you buy the truck.

  • @TheWolfMatt

    I'd like to see when they compare the towing tests, acceleration pulls, and drag races against its competition. Like my 2017 Silverado 6.2 Midnight Edition LTZ for example,. I really doubt the Nissan would keep up with the 6.2 but would do great against the 5.3 or even the Ford 5.0 or 3.5 engines. Should be fun to watch either way. Stiff competition makes for better products overall so I look forward to the reviews.

    By subjective I think they mean biased, why not give a reason for the low scores? No mention about the zero gravity seats? How bout where the truck was made which is Canton Missouri, yes American made for all U big 3 fan-boys. I recently purchased a 2017 pro-4x Titan and love it! I would say that the gas mileage is a negative though. Next time it would be nice for some feedback and not just some random scores thrown out for unspecified reasons. You can't beat the bumper to bumper 5yr 100,000 mile truck warranty either, best in America.

So you need close ratio gear boxes, instead of the wide ratio boxes they keep sticking in them. I'll be really curious to see how the ford/gm 10 speed transmission works out on their V8's.

    • @NWI_Steel
      @NWI_Steel 7 років тому +2

      YZBot I agree. The 10 speed should work wonders for the ford 5.0 and gm 5.3. More so than the gains with the ecoboost because the eco had such a broad flat torque curve

      @Bunkysworkshop 7 років тому

      Jonathan Watts I can agree with you on the mpg. I live on the eastern shore and most of the people have the tundra and f150 and yes the tundra does get thirsty. I have been hearing that around here they are slowly turning towards the tundra for its resale. Durability and dependability. I have a 07 Ridgeline but am thinking of the tundra. The upgrade is larger gas tank and new transmission.

    This seems like a nice truck, it's also destined to be a bit player in a big truck world. Nissan can do ok if they keep lots of $ on the hood. Combined numbers with the XD will struggle to exceed 85,000 units a year. Toyota is selling 118,000 Tundras a year with a 2007 drive train offering little in the way of incentives.
