As somebody with 400 hours in Squad, here are answers to some of the questions you asked in the video. -Yes, Fallujah is a map in Squad. They added it with one of the updates in late 2020 along with the introduction of the Middle Eastern Coalition faction. It's a pretty good map in my opinion. -3:29 That armored vehicle right there hit a mine which on the insurgent team is only given to the class called a "sapper". There are IEDs in the game that can be placed on vehicles, drones, walls, etc, and detonated with a flip phone. they are given to the militia factions in the game. In gameplay, they are typically used to make VBIEDs, IED drones, or to be left behind at an objective and detonated if overrun by the enemy. -6:16 They do in fact have a lot of variations of weaponized pickup trucks. These weapons vary from DShKs, to AA guns, all the way from rocket artillery to armored vehicle turrets welded to the back of a truck bed. It would be pretty cool to see you play Squad. Just know that the gameplay is heavily team-based and there is a pretty steep learning curve at first. Considering you aren't a gamer, I recommend finding somebody who knows the game to help show you the ropes.
@@ValorUntold to piggyback off of what he said - the squad structure is in the game as classes. 50 players per team & 9 players to a squad. There are about 11 kits/classes to choose from. Squad leader/rifleman/auto-rifleman/LMG, HMG, LAT, HAT/medics/engineers/sappers/marksman. They all serve a specific purpose and a good squad leader knows how to utilize them. Very much a *simulation* of what it’s like to be in a skirmish/firefight instead of a realism simulator. For example, you can be “killed” without actually dying. You’re knocked into a downed/unconscious state & have a certain amount of time wherein medics can come & stabilize you. Headshots, being downed one too many times, and most explosions are insta-kills. You’re not going to survive a rolling barrage on top of your head. You’re also not going to survive OR have any fun playing solo/Rambo. You need to integrate yourself into a squad. The only time you’ll be solo is in logistics/supply truck runs/if you’re a pilot/if you’re playing as a small armor squad.
The next most realistic game you're going to find it's going to be Arma 3 and that one it's more of a realistic wait wait wait shoot, Arma 3 most realistic almost too realistic where it's not fun
On RAAS and AAS, push second objective, set up a hab nearby, and pull defense on that objective as the other squads on your team push the third, more often than not the other team will push your objective and the third objective at the same time. Went back to back in a server with the same squad with this strat, best squad each game, lots of conflict.
If you do play it I would recommend getting someone to help learn it, it has a very high learning curve and is difficult to learn by yourself. I just got over a hundred hours in it and just got used to the tactics and general strategies of the game. Would love to see you play squad lead role!
When you actually play on the Fallujah layer (map), that immersion feeling goes way up. You even get a tiny bit of the pucker factor when you see trash bags and whatnot on the roads. I'd recommend it even if you aren't a gamer just for nostalgias sake.
Squad is a MilSim which are different from most military shooters in that they are much slower paced and focus more on tactics rather than gunplay and often focus on taking our hold objectives than simple kill counts. There's videos of matches over an hour long with 30 minutes until contact is made between factions in some cases. There's also 1-Life events where if the player gets killed/heavily wounded; they're out for the rest of the round. Which is certainly more realistic than waiting a minute to respawn. The firefights also come in two flavors: 1) Massive amounts of firepower expended in a minute or two followed by quiet. 2) Drawn out engagements lasting much of the match with a shot or two every couple of minutes. The teams are what's called "Asymmetrically Balanced" meaning that the factions are equal in every regard. Like OpFor factions tend to move a bit quicker and have access to weapons like IEDs, landmines, and technicals (DshK, Recoilless Rifle, and AAA varieties); while conventional forces have heavier firepower like access to 155mm artillery strikes (with different options like Creeping Barrage or Standing Barrage), A-10 or SU-25 CAS, etc. The conventional factions are US Army, US Marines, British Army, Russian Army, Canadian Army, and the fictional "Middle East Coalition" which is primarily based on Iran but also seem to have some equipment found in more Western friendly Middle Eastern nations. There's also two unconventional forces which are the Insurgents (based on the Taliban and Iraqi Insurgency) and the Militia (based primarily on Eastern European militia groups). The maps are based on Iraq, Afghanistan, Eastern Europe, and one or two North American maps.
@@ValorUntold Honestly the game became better optimized over time and though it is a bit taxing on the GPU, the CPU has always been my main bottleneck. As for a GPU for Squad, anything like a Nvidia 1080 will be fine. The game can tax the CPU a bit more at times, but for reference, I used to play on a 980ti with a i73770 cpu and had no issues putting it on max settings at 1080p. I now have a 3070 gpu with the same CPU and have it maxed at 4k. It is beautiful.
First of all yes second of all yes, I would encourage you to get into the combat simulation genre; Squad, Escape from Tarkov, Ground Branch and Insurgency come to mind as great titles. Time to become a gamer.
EFT is no longer a combat sim, Nikita has been p adamant about pushing it as an RPG shooter.i dont think scuttle would enjoy the clash of highly realistic mechanics vs laser beam 60rndrs that require 1p shots to kill someone

Squad is awesome, I've played it for years. Definately a lot more fun when you play with friends. Alone it's pretty hit or miss, pretty rare to join random squads who can communicate effectively, if at all.
Depends on the server. Anything with "new player friendly" in the title is a no go for this reason. I almost exclusively play on the Karmakut Occupation Only server and the Squadops servers, since they're full of people who know how to communicate properly. Even if you are a new player I recommend staying away from "new player friendly" servers, because you wont be around people who want to communicate and play properly. People are willing to help and teach you the game in just about every server, NPF or not
my first time playing this game i played with my brother we got into a server and played on top of a mountain and we built a "outpost" with 50 cal. (correct me if im wrong but im not that good with weapons names and stuff) it was pretty fun to deny helicopters comming to ressupply enemy squads and transport such an amazing first game i had.
2.1k+ hours in Squad. It is a fantastic game, but if you do not like playing as a team, communicating over voice coms with a mic, and playing objectives which sometimes requires periods of inactivity (defending a point when nobody is currently attacking, spending time walking, ect.) which drives a lot of people away who feel it is too much time doing boring things. This game is not for COD fans who want constant run and gun action, it is for people who like strategy, tactics, teamwork, and overcoming a significant challenge (usually the other team is pretty decent.) The coolest part by far is the sound design. It makes you shit yourself when things go from calm to 100% chaos in a matter of seconds. The level of combined arms is pretty cool too with all the armor and helicopters. The biggest thing you need to learn about Squad is to really enjoy it you need to find a community. That could be a server you play on frequently which leads you to come to know the regulars or playing with a group of friends, the game is better with community. That said, it is special to come into a completely random group of people with no connection and suddenly bonding and working with them to achieve a common goal. It is very a fun game for people who enjoy this kind of thing.
you get 3 radio channels but you can never hear the enemy only your own side chat so pressing V you can talk directly to any one on your side in a radius, Pressing B is for only members of your own squad and for the squad leader they get an extra chat between other squad leaders and with ever squad leader volunteered to be the commander
You need play this game bro its one of best Milsims out there its way different actually playing it then watching a trailer, the immersion is nuts, full ptsd. Lots of military people play it and normies. Great fun and super realistic.
Squad is unlike any other fps in that the main focus is communication and cooperative teamwork. I have a few thousand hours in squad at this point, and I freaking cant get enough. I’ve played Squad for years and I absolutely encourage you to try it. It’s a phenomenal game that incorporates “realistic” maps and gameplay mechanics into the FPS genre it would be interesting to see how familiar you may or may not be with the equipment givin your military backround. Would recommend you try and find someone who has a lot of experience accompany you for you first few games as I can be a pretty steep learning curve
I just bought the game today and went through the tutorial, I still haven’t got into a match yet but I’m eager to find people to help me learn the ropes, I’m completely new to these kind of games
The ARMA franchise of games are the civilian versions of Virtual Battle Space Simulator which is used as a training tool by the US Military (Currently using VBS3). That's another good one to look at. Squad's a blast and is a game based off of a mod made for Battlefield 2 called Project Reality. The whole deal with Squad has always been to be as realistic as possible without sacrificing the core gameplay that made Project Reality such a hit.

From what I've seen, in another video, is that each town, is procedurally generated, this way, there is no constant " same map" choke points. Every corner, alley, building, placement/layout is never the same, so you don't fully know the map, from repetitive gameplay/memory. I'm a BIG Arma II/III FAN. I hope this natively supports head tracking, like ARMA.

I had like 600 hours then my computer broke, watching this video makes me want fix my computer now, and the whole radio thing where you said code trust me talking to some of these guys feels like decrypting code. The best part is trying to get everyone together but everyone has their own plans 😂
Squad is a great game, match length is 2 hours, you have about 3 minutes pre round to plan with squad leaders and command, RAAS and AAS are heavy hitting game modes, Random Advance and Secure - Advance and Secure, depending on your team and the other team either the game is Won/Lost in 20 minutes, or you're going in on a 40 minute+ operation. There's even a mod if you want to make it look like Battlefront 2 with clones and droids and such, great mod, beautiful design and artwork done to it, gets better with the equipment in your pc. GG all around, 10/10 would recommend
And with the radio, you have a command line if you're squad leader to talk to all other SL's and Commander, your squad voip to talk to the other 8 members of your squad, and a local/proximity chat to talk to any team member in the area. If you're SL you'll have 16 voices all talking at once.
the game has mod support even so there are new "factions" or playable teams that come in mods like the 75th ranger regiment and soon to be added french foreign legion. Im really hyped that there will be a official release soon this year of the united states marine core
Play it! This game definitely has friendly fire risk (just seen your 6 days in fallujah vid). You're constantly checking the map to see if the targets you've just seen in the building 2 blocks away are enemy or friendly. The win goes to the team with the best co-ordinated command structure and squad tactics. And playing the insurgents is a really popular choice. I saw a video today where insurgent IEDs were attached to a vehicle and driven at a CAF strongpoint then detonated. Over a dozen CAF casualties and it turned the tide of the game. Oh, and if you're in the combat zone, the noise is so intense, you can't hear comms anyway. I had someone fire a bazooka at me and it hit the wall I was standing behind, the noise literally made me jump! My new gaming PC rig arrives Friday. Squad is more for people who want a more intensive experience. I don't know if you've seen any of the Arma series, but its a Military Sandbox game. Its game content is a decent amount but a large part of the community thrives on mods. Its harder to play Arma though due to the complexity, realism, and sandbox aspect where nothing is preset. I enjoy both games but if you do take interest in squad, i would recommend watching a few of OperatorDrewski's videos to see the gameplay.
650hrs in game. If anyone here does get this game (pls do its really good) do not jump onto the Marksmen kit and try to Chris Kyle everything right away. Its nothing against you I'm sure you a great shot, the Marksman kit is just really underwhelming and situational compared to the other fire support rolls. I'll give an example with some context Squad works on on a respawn ticket system. 1 INF = 1 ticket. Transport and Logi trucks = 5, ETC... when a team reaches 0 tickets they lose 1 Marksmen on a good game can bag around 15-25 kills, again, this is considered GOOD unfortunately Marksmen takes up a fire support role (Each player run squad has 3 total selected by first come first served) So a Marksmen can take up a slot that I can have someone running AT 1 HAT (Heavy Anti-Tank) can kill an APC or IFV (10-15 tickets), the crew (2-4 tickets), and any and all passengers (0-9 tickets) So a HAT or even a LAT (Light Anti-Tank) with good aim killing one vehicle can get 12-28 kills worth of tickets removed from the enemy team and stop enemy armor from steam rolling your squad. Furthermore even Auto-Riflemen are more useful because they can just bi-pod up and spray vaguely in the direction of the enemy and suppress them, sometimes an entire squad at once. Something that a Marksmen can't do. Squad isn't really a game about getting kills its about control, normally the team that coordinates the best controls the pace of the game and can control more territory and win by flanking and capturing objectives. Marksmen do 100% thrive on Fallujah and Lushkar Valley though. Lastly to end this novel of a comment. The BMP that got blown up, Yes that probably was an IED or a landmine. They are absolutely in the game and Insurgent and Militia forces have exclusive access to them. You can attach them to any vehicle in the game including the remote controlled drone that the Insurgents and Militia factions also have access to. So suicide bikes and trucks are VERY common and rightfully should be feared. You used to be able to attach IEDs to your team mates and have them be a suicide runner, but you can't do that anymore because honestly it was a little OP, friendlies caught in the explosion were common and numerous, and you didn't need permission to put a bomb on someone... so you could 'volunteer' random team members to be suicide bombers when they didn't want to (which isn't very fun on the receiving end) -FIN-
You gotta check Squad dude. Its a fun game but also very detailed in its "realism". If you wanna react to a few videos before diving into the game I can recommend two very good youtubers who cover this game, theyre names are "Karmakut" and "OperatorDrewski"
Love the game. Its as realistic as you'd want a video game to be. It's one of the few games that really tries to use all the weapons systems in their actual roles and discourages rambo style behavior. Also does a great job of getting pacing right, from what I gather, of a battle. Smaller skirmishes and long range engagements leading to bigger fights over objectives and consideration being given to logistics.

The sounds and graphics are amazing and it's the only game I know of where suppressing fire is useful. This game is amazing... been playing it for a few months now. I cannot play more than 2 games back to back because my back and neck get so tense throughout the round. I encourage all veterans who are into FPS play this game PS you might want to react to Karmakut Squad videos or MoiDawg Squad videos to get a better feel
@@ValorUntold Karmakut is very hit or miss. Some people get turned off by how mil-sim like he gets, some people love that. Personally I like some of his cinematic videos, but I second MoiDawg as a person to watch who really treats it like a game rather than a live action roll play. To each their own, just giving you a heads up.

It would be interesting to see a person not familiar with video games play Squad. I say Squad hits a sweet spot of being realistic, but not too realistic like games like Arma where it is an actual simulator. The game heavily relies on communication with your team.
Game is slow paced at times. It can be frustrating if the other team is being led by experienced squad leaders while your in a team that aren't working well. The entire game is all about who's team is better at positioning FOB(spawn points) across objective points. I think you need to watch and react to actual gameplay,search karmakut's videos or Nikolai,they are popular squad streamers.

I know SQUAD is really impressive if you're still a newbie, but if you want a more refined experience with more content, more actual tactical gameplay and so on, then you should check out Project Reality. Its the game that SQUAD is based on, and while it's a pretty old game and the graphics aren't up to modern standards, in my opinion its way better in terms of gameplay. For example, the insurgency mode in that game is way better, the way it works is the conventional forces (BLUFOR) have to gather intel on the locations of enemy weapons caches and then secure and destroy those caches. They can slowly gain that intel by killing insurgents (or they can try to arrest them which gives a lot of intel but obviously thats much harder to do without getting shot first). Meanwhile the insurgents focus on killing as many BLUFOR as possible and defending the cache. But the fun part is, insurgents have the option to drop their weapon which turns them into civilians, and if BLUFOR kills you while you're a civilian, they actually LOSE intel. So they have to confirm if an enemy is civilian or if he has a weapon before they open fire, which adds some tactical depth to the game. And if you choose to play as civilian, you can observe enemy movements without getting shot at and relay them to your friends, or you can do some more interesting tactics like letting enemies come close to you and then picking up a weapon and killing them when they're not paying attention. This type of stuff is why Project Reality is better than Squad, there's just more tactical depth to it, and there's also more content. You can play ww2, Vietnam war, modern wars, and so on, and there's stuff like attack helicopters and warplanes. I recommend you check it out, search for "Final Push (Round Highlight)" by bluedrake42 on UA-cam to get an idea of what the game is like PS I really like your content dude, keep making more videos
I have a few thousand hours and I recommend it but it's not without its flaws. I've been playing since 2016~, so my opinions on what the game should focus on are pretty specific, but it would be cool to see some of your impressions of the game, should you play it. After squad it's hard to play almost anything else. Could it be improved more? Sure. Has anything been done better? Nope. As for realistic, well your sitting on your butt clicking a mouse and can calmly sip your coffee while your buddy patches your head back on that got hit by a 30mm. So No. But as far as video games go it has strongly tried to stay true to mil sim tactics, while not being so simulation it ceases to be fun. Also the community itself is the strongest selling point. No other game has one quite like it. Something about the game does seem for the most part to attract the players that I'd gladly have a beer with.

The insertion faction gets IED's and the they can use hand drones so you can put an IED on the drone and fly to the enemy and blow it up
Squad is awesome, I've played it for years. Definately a lot more fun when you play with friends. Alone it's pretty hit or miss, pretty rare to join random squads who can communicate effectively, if at all.
Depends on the server. Anything with "new player friendly" in the title is a no go for this reason. I almost exclusively play on the Karmakut Occupation Only server and the Squadops servers, since they're full of people who know how to communicate properly. Even if you are a new player I recommend staying away from "new player friendly" servers, because you wont be around people who want to communicate and play properly. People are willing to help and teach you the game in just about every server, NPF or not
I have around 800 hours in Squad, and it's FANTASTIC you would LOVE this game definitely worth a try
my first time playing this game i played with my brother we got into a server and played on top of a mountain and we built a "outpost" with 50 cal. (correct me if im wrong but im not that good with weapons names and stuff) it was pretty fun to deny helicopters comming to ressupply enemy squads and transport such an amazing first game i had.

2.1k+ hours in Squad. It is a fantastic game, but if you do not like playing as a team, communicating over voice coms with a mic, and playing objectives which sometimes requires periods of inactivity (defending a point when nobody is currently attacking, spending time walking, ect.) which drives a lot of people away who feel it is too much time doing boring things. This game is not for COD fans who want constant run and gun action, it is for people who like strategy, tactics, teamwork, and overcoming a significant challenge (usually the other team is pretty decent.)
The coolest part by far is the sound design. It makes you shit yourself when things go from calm to 100% chaos in a matter of seconds. The level of combined arms is pretty cool too with all the armor and helicopters. The biggest thing you need to learn about Squad is to really enjoy it you need to find a community. That could be a server you play on frequently which leads you to come to know the regulars or playing with a group of friends, the game is better with community. That said, it is special to come into a completely random group of people with no connection and suddenly bonding and working with them to achieve a common goal. It is very a fun game for people who enjoy this kind of thing.
The radio idea would actually be pretty cool
you get 3 radio channels but you can never hear the enemy only your own side chat so pressing V you can talk directly to any one on your side in a radius, Pressing B is for only members of your own squad and for the squad leader they get an extra chat between other squad leaders and with ever squad leader volunteered to be the commander
It is extremely fun combat vets would love to play this game due to the fact teamplay is huge in this game and communication.

I’ve played Squad for years and I absolutely encourage you to try it. It’s a phenomenal game that incorporates “realistic” maps and gameplay mechanics into the FPS genre it would be interesting to see how familiar you may or may not be with the equipment givin your military backround. Would recommend you try and find someone who has a lot of experience accompany you for you first few games as I can be a pretty steep learning curve

The ARMA franchise of games are the civilian versions of Virtual Battle Space Simulator which is used as a training tool by the US Military (Currently using VBS3). That's another good one to look at. Squad's a blast and is a game based off of a mod made for Battlefield 2 called Project Reality. The whole deal with Squad has always been to be as realistic as possible without sacrificing the core gameplay that made Project Reality such a hit.

Edit: gameplay wise I love going insurgents because your so put matched in a sense. Most of you have iron sights while the ameicans or Russians have 4x. Shitty veichles compared to nice tanks. Just fun when you win
From what I've seen, in another video, is that each town, is procedurally generated, this way, there is no constant " same map" choke points. Every corner, alley, building, placement/layout is never the same, so you don't fully know the map, from repetitive gameplay/memory. I'm a BIG Arma II/III FAN. I hope this natively supports head tracking, like ARMA.
Squad doesn't have procedural maps, you're thinking of Six Days in Fallujah.

Squad is a great game, match length is 2 hours, you have about 3 minutes pre round to plan with squad leaders and command, RAAS and AAS are heavy hitting game modes, Random Advance and Secure - Advance and Secure, depending on your team and the other team either the game is Won/Lost in 20 minutes, or you're going in on a 40 minute+ operation. There's even a mod if you want to make it look like Battlefront 2 with clones and droids and such, great mod, beautiful design and artwork done to it, gets better with the equipment in your pc. GG all around, 10/10 would recommend
And with the radio, you have a command line if you're squad leader to talk to all other SL's and Commander, your squad voip to talk to the other 8 members of your squad, and a local/proximity chat to talk to any team member in the area. If you're SL you'll have 16 voices all talking at once.

Play it! This game definitely has friendly fire risk (just seen your 6 days in fallujah vid). You're constantly checking the map to see if the targets you've just seen in the building 2 blocks away are enemy or friendly. The win goes to the team with the best co-ordinated command structure and squad tactics.
And playing the insurgents is a really popular choice. I saw a video today where insurgent IEDs were attached to a vehicle and driven at a CAF strongpoint then detonated. Over a dozen CAF casualties and it turned the tide of the game.
Oh, and if you're in the combat zone, the noise is so intense, you can't hear comms anyway. I had someone fire a bazooka at me and it hit the wall I was standing behind, the noise literally made me jump!

Squad is more for people who want a more intensive experience. I don't know if you've seen any of the Arma series, but its a Military Sandbox game. Its game content is a decent amount but a large part of the community thrives on mods. Its harder to play Arma though due to the complexity, realism, and sandbox aspect where nothing is preset. I enjoy both games but if you do take interest in squad, i would recommend watching a few of OperatorDrewski's videos to see the gameplay.
arma is fine and all, but the controls, ai, and some of mechanics are just bad. Squad is great war game while arma is more about doing missions.
650hrs in game. If anyone here does get this game (pls do its really good) do not jump onto the Marksmen kit and try to Chris Kyle everything right away. Its nothing against you I'm sure you a great shot, the Marksman kit is just really underwhelming and situational compared to the other fire support rolls. I'll give an example with some context
Squad works on on a respawn ticket system. 1 INF = 1 ticket. Transport and Logi trucks = 5, ETC... when a team reaches 0 tickets they lose
1 Marksmen on a good game can bag around 15-25 kills, again, this is considered GOOD
unfortunately Marksmen takes up a fire support role (Each player run squad has 3 total selected by first come first served) So a Marksmen can take up a slot that I can have someone running AT
1 HAT (Heavy Anti-Tank) can kill an APC or IFV (10-15 tickets), the crew (2-4 tickets), and any and all passengers (0-9 tickets)
So a HAT or even a LAT (Light Anti-Tank) with good aim killing one vehicle can get 12-28 kills worth of tickets removed from the enemy team and stop enemy armor from steam rolling your squad.
Furthermore even Auto-Riflemen are more useful because they can just bi-pod up and spray vaguely in the direction of the enemy and suppress them, sometimes an entire squad at once. Something that a Marksmen can't do. Squad isn't really a game about getting kills its about control, normally the team that coordinates the best controls the pace of the game and can control more territory and win by flanking and capturing objectives. Marksmen do 100% thrive on Fallujah and Lushkar Valley though.
Lastly to end this novel of a comment. The BMP that got blown up, Yes that probably was an IED or a landmine. They are absolutely in the game and Insurgent and Militia forces have exclusive access to them. You can attach them to any vehicle in the game including the remote controlled drone that the Insurgents and Militia factions also have access to. So suicide bikes and trucks are VERY common and rightfully should be feared. You used to be able to attach IEDs to your team mates and have them be a suicide runner, but you can't do that anymore because honestly it was a little OP, friendlies caught in the explosion were common and numerous, and you didn't need permission to put a bomb on someone... so you could 'volunteer' random team members to be suicide bombers when they didn't want to (which isn't very fun on the receiving end)

Love the game. Its as realistic as you'd want a video game to be. It's one of the few games that really tries to use all the weapons systems in their actual roles and discourages rambo style behavior. Also does a great job of getting pacing right, from what I gather, of a battle. Smaller skirmishes and long range engagements leading to bigger fights over objectives and consideration being given to logistics.

The sounds and graphics are amazing and it's the only game I know of where suppressing fire is useful. This game is amazing... been playing it for a few months now. I cannot play more than 2 games back to back because my back and neck get so tense throughout the round.

@@ValorUntold Karmakut is very hit or miss. Some people get turned off by how mil-sim like he gets, some people love that. Personally I like some of his cinematic videos, but I second MoiDawg as a person to watch who really treats it like a game rather than a live action roll play. It would be interesting to see a person not familiar with video games play Squad. I say Squad hits a sweet spot of being realistic, but not too realistic like games like Arma where it is an actual simulator. The game heavily relies on communication with your team.

Game is slow paced at times. It can be frustrating if the other team is being led by experienced squad leaders while your in a team that aren't working well. The entire game is all about who's team is better at positioning FOB(spawn points) across objective points. I think you need to watch and react to actual gameplay,search karmakut's videos or Nikolai,they are popular squad streamers.

I know SQUAD is really impressive if you're still a newbie, but if you want a more refined experience with more content, more actual tactical gameplay and so on, then you should check out Project Reality. Its the game that SQUAD is based on, and while it's a pretty old game and the graphics aren't up to modern standards, in my opinion its way better in terms of gameplay.
For example, the insurgency mode in that game is way better, the way it works is the conventional forces (BLUFOR) have to gather intel on the locations of enemy weapons caches and then secure and destroy those caches. They can slowly gain that intel by killing insurgents (or they can try to arrest them which gives a lot of intel but obviously thats much harder to do without getting shot first). Meanwhile the insurgents focus on killing as many BLUFOR as possible and defending the cache. But the fun part is, insurgents have the option to drop their weapon which turns them into civilians, and if BLUFOR kills you while you're a civilian, they actually LOSE intel. So they have to confirm if an enemy is civilian or if he has a weapon before they open fire, which adds some tactical depth to the game. And if you choose to play as civilian, you can observe enemy movements without getting shot at and relay them to your friends, or you can do some more interesting tactics like letting enemies come close to you and then picking up a weapon and killing them when they're not paying attention.
This type of stuff is why Project Reality is better than Squad, there's just more tactical depth to it, and there's also more content. You can play ww2, Vietnam war, modern wars, and so on, and there's stuff like attack helicopters and warplanes. I recommend you check it out, search for "Final Push (Round Highlight)" by bluedrake42 on UA-cam to get an idea of what the game is like

After squad it's hard to play almost anything else. Could it be improved more? Sure. Has anything been done better? Nope. As for realistic, well your sitting on your butt clicking a mouse and can calmly sip your coffee while your buddy patches your head back on that got hit by a 30mm. So No. But as far as video games go it has strongly tried to stay true to mil sim tactics, while not being so simulation it ceases to be fun. Also the community itself is the strongest selling point. No other game has one quite like it. Something about the game does seem for the most part to attract the players that I'd gladly have a beer with.
